I chose tactical.

I should state that I consider anything that's tactical meaning you have to think about a fight before you enter it.
This can be applied to a lot of games though essentially - Half-life//Fallout 3 style, where you'll usually get a chance to assess the more dangerous situations beforehand.

I'm not into any Rainbow 6 type of games, it's more like a game of chess - hybridised with an FPS.... I hate chess.

In my opinion you can't just group all FPS games into two different categories....
That's why I have the third category, which almost no one is voting in. The other two are neck and neck though.

I agree. Have you tried Vs. or Survival mode? I thought co-op was grand until I played the other two modes which totally changed the game and are great fun.

Just be aware that Q3A takes a lot of practice and commitment to play at an even an above-average level, and can seem daunting to new players because of the high barriers to entry (there are people who have been playing this game non-stop since Q3A, after all) although the matchmaking system does a pretty good job of countering this issue. It is very rewarding to play however being a 'pure' shooter per se and I find it helps increase my accuracy and general competency in other fps's as well. A fast mouse also helps (2000 dpi or higher).

Vegas 2 is widely regarded to be the weakest of the two. Maybe start with the first one? Vegas 2 is still great fun but at times gets very repetitive. I often found myself having to resort to being very cheap to beat some areas. One thing Vegas does do very well is the teammate AI and their ability to find cover. Without naming names, a lot of other tactical shooters will see AI teammates gleefully run out and do a dance while getting mowed down.
L4D, no I haven't. Since I don't own the game, I'm either going to have to either get with my buddy who does to try those out or just buy the game myself. Have a feeling I'll end up doing the later.

Q3, will probably just get put on the back burner then. Don't really have the interest in having to devote myself to a shooter. I don't mind having to contemplate things and figure stuff out, but I don't really have the time to spend on anything for too long, unless it's an RPG of course.

Hmmm.... choices, choices now on Rainbow Six. I'm almost done with Vegas 2, though it's literally killing me. And to find out it's the worst, while liking it so much, am definitely going to have to find a copy of the first Vegas... and R6:3. Damnit.

Being the epic gears fan that I am... Tactical... I don't like the run-and-gun style of halo. Gears is good because it's not to slow, but it's still got the tactics to it, there's massive strategy to it (The way my friends and I play it)
I know Gears of War is suppose to be more tactical than Halo, but to me it's not. Both games I end up just running around like an idiot, killing everything in my path, and that 'tactic' always seems to work. My roomate absolutely hates playing Gears or Halo with me because he's always wasting time crouching behind cover while I'm out killing all the enemies. And he's the much, Much, MUCH better action gamer! Not so fun times!

For me, its more like a mix of the two, I don't mind fast-paced or tactical, both are still shooters, just as long as I get a gun.

Lol oh yes the gears rusher.. haha once you start playing clan matches or anyone half decent that "tactic" goes to shit mate. I'm guessing you're the kind of player who might get a lot of kills but you'll also rack up a lot of deaths? (Don't worry I'm the same in most fps's)

Haha, yeah that's me in games like UT and Halo and such. Have never played Gears competively though, only co-op.

i can get along with either, but i do prefer faster paced games. rampaging and killing is just somehow more appealing than having to think to avoid almost instant death.

CoD always seems to mix the two wonderfully. You can have intense run and gun moments in multiplayer and such, but then you have stealth and urban warfare that is just amazing
CoD is one of the few series I've played every one of so far and with every one I just start to get into it when I suddenly just lose interest. Not sure exactly why, but it might be the combination of the two styles you're refering to. I start acting stealthy when maybe I should be guns ho, and vice versa. It's probably I just prefer one style or the other. When I'm in the mood for some guns-a-blazin', I don't want to suddenly have to crouch and hide.
A CoD 4 where you could choose between either lunatic running and gunning or stealthy backstabbing bollocks in any given situation rather than doing one or the other when the game commands you to would be brilliant.
And personally I don't give a rat's arse about the MP.

Well, after beating the second one, I went out and bought the first one. So far very disappointing. Still fun enough to play, but feels very lacking compared to the second, in both gameplay and graphics. Oh, and also story. It probably would have been better if I had played it first, but as is, I'm just not getting into it like I did the second one.

Can't wait to beat it though because I also picked up Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfare (was a 2-pack for $30) which I've also never played before.

I like both and it really depends on my mood at the time. If I have time to sit down and fully enjoy the game, then I prefer tactical. If I have a few short minutes between classes then I go for the fast paced.

Tactical, I tend to do the whole crouching and sneaking routine and like having teammates to draw fire away from me.

I tend to prefer the fast-paced action of a Halo 2 (actually the Halo series has both tactical and fast-paced types of gameplay), Painkiller: Hell Wars or Timesplitters: Future Perfect. I've played tactical shooters, but they have to be really well done (like Chaos Theory, Black or Riddick) in order to get my attention.

There's just something so satisfying about fighting a million enemies or facing down a huge boss. Besides, serious shooters tend to have kinda lame weapons. I'll take a Sci-Fi Handgun or Electro-Driver over ANOTHER stupid Spas-12 tactical shotgun or Glock 17 any day.

I like to point to FEAR in this case, which is mostly a tactical shooter (except for the lack of teammates and addition of slow-mo). It incorporates "boring, realistic" guns as well as futuristic stuff.

I love tactical/stealthy shooters. Feels good to take out a whole group of enemies without
any of them finding out until I put a silenced bullet in the back of their head. :)

Whenever I play an FPS I do it for quick action and if I don't get that I usually switch game pretty quickly. With exceptions though, rainbow six is a great series

Where is the "both" option? Because I like both from time to time. I easily swap between Gears of War (yes I consider that tactical, because of what the poster above me said, not realistic but definatly tactical) and UT or something.
