I don't think it should be banned, but I think that they should, to some extent at least, have stores be held at least partly accountable for injuries and deaths that occur at their stores. Obviously it's not entirely their fault, but at the same time they're also encouraging the behavior - they need to have a better system in place, like online ticket lines, ticket raffles, something like that, to keep people from stampeding into places (particularly the big stores, Walmart, Target, those kinds of places) and I can't think of any other way to make them come up with such things aside from holding them responsible.
Personally, though, I've done one Black Friday event at a Best Buy. It wasn't great, and I don't plan on doing it again, but at least they kept the crowds orderly.

They should do a week and focus different items on the sales across each day. It'd cut down on crowds somewhat.
Black Friday itself will never be banned. Too lucrative in terms of taxes gained off of it.
