It should definitely be watched more carefully... like more cops or something making sure people don't go crazy...

And how would they enforce it? Say "no more sales the Friday after Thanksgiving"? If they did that, stores would just change the day. Honestly, the problem is the fact that it's when people want to start Christmas shopping. If it were up to me, I would just ban Christmas, but that's because I can't stand the constant Christmas music and rude drivers that time of year (I mean, I love Frank Sinatra, but enough is enough, am I right?).

That was a joke. I don't really want to ban Christmas; I'm not Ebenezer Scrooge. But if anything they should be watched more carefully by cops. But that really says something about humanity, doesn't it?

no because it counts as freedom of speech
i admit it completely sucks and it should not exist but it's to late for that since they already opened Pandora's box in this situation

Black Friday isn't killing people, the idiots who would trample someone to get a deal are.
Exactly, and those people are here year-round anyway.

Yes, actually. Now, I've never been a victim of this, but I've known people who have and I know people who WORK at the places that have these.

Black Friday is the bain of humanity, or at least one of them.

All these crazy people, maniacally beating each other down with sticks because MINE MINE MINE you can't have it! Pathetic...

Tempting as that sounds, i must disagree. My priority is currently on banning the "My Little Pony" avatars that have been popping up on every motherfucking forum i find. Sadly progress has been slow, as in there is no progress at all, i know full well there is nothing i can do and i should just get over it, but hey. Might as well make a joke about it while one of those avatars sends me into a wide awake nightmare.

On topic: No. The only thing banning Black Friday will do is lead to the creation of another arbitrary date. Holidays have pretty much been reduced to a way to stir up the consumer whore base, i actually admire Black Friday for being honest about it. Plus it gives me a unique opportunity to hear about what happened from people who wound up in the hospital i work at due to a Black Friday shopping injury.

no, but Rebeca Black - Friday should be.
Oh my God it's all a conspiracy!

OT: If they were to 'ban' it it would just re-emerge bigger and better and worse at the same time. Yeah.

[HEADING=2]HOLY SHIT!!![/HEADING]

OT: Well, I'm not sure. Where I live it's not very much people, so there's never really any injuries and nothing chaotic ever happens, so it's just like any other day. It's pretty safe here, and I don't really get out much. In other words, we don't get trampled on, and we get great deals.
Then again, it does happen in other parts of the world, I just never experienced it here, so my feelings are neutral.

Oh yeah, just what we need, more government intervention telling us what we can and can't do of our own free will. Sounds like a great idea![/sarcasm]

I've done it for the last couple of years, mainly for laughs, and I would sorely miss it. I consider it part of the holiday season, and while certain things have happened in the past thanks to some bad apples, I enjoy hanging out with my friends all night for a PS3 or whatever is my fancy. The only place bad things happen is Wal-Mart because yes they DO suck and wouldn't mind seeing them banned from doing Black Friday sales. I went to Best Buy and Target the last two years, and I can honestly say that it was incredibly organized and safe. Everyone got what they wanted, and everyone went home happy... and not dead.

Short Answer: No.

What's Black Friday?
It's the Friday after Thanksgiving in the U.S. There are usually large sales on merchandise and people go out in droves to stores at very early hours. In the last few years there have been some widely publicized cases of violence due to the large numbers of people in crowded spaces competing for discount goods.

Wow, starting early this year.

No. Also, it's not possible to ban stores from having sales.

Oooh, I know I know! :-D Is it that thing that happens in an episode of How I Met Your Mother when Lily and a bunch of women storm a store as soon as it opens and she and another girl fight over a shirt or whatever, trying to rip them from each others hands. You know when she loses, falls on the floor and says "You just made the list *****!!! T_T"

Is that shit for realsies? :-O Holy Crap. Sounds dangerous.

Pretty much. Christmas Eve is more or less the same situation really, gotta get those gifts.

Still probably safer than going to Chuck E. Cheeses.

Yes, it should be banned. It is awful that we should be expected to commemorate the Victorian bushfires. That happened over 70 years ago.

Nope. If they want to have sales on a random date, let them. I just find something humorous and almost poetic about people harming each other over saving 10%.

Sure you get amazing deals on products but people die and get major injuries every year.
I am guessing you haven't taken economics in High School yet. If you have, PAY MORE ATTENTION.

Supply and Demand is essential to capitalism. Capitalism is how the economy works. Without having demand for a product (sometimes artificially boosted by what we call "sales") the economy stagnates. Then we all die of starvation, like the communists are...
