Removing Black Friday might have some benefits, it also has giant drawbacks. Dealing with the people who would literally kill someone to buy something half off has no drawbacks.
Benefits: people might not die which isn't preventable anyway.

drawback: We take away the biggest spending day in a capitalist economy. Just take a guess why that is a bad idea.

So no, it shouldn't be illegal. If you wanted to do that then you should ban sales which means the economy would be run my the government which would be close to a dictatorship.

You know, Canadian retailers seem to be doing just fine without having "Black Friday". Granted we have Boxing Day (day after Christmas) but it's not NEARLY as much of a horror story...

As a British guy, I don't think they have that over here. Thusly, I have no idea what this is about.

Could someone kindly explain the principle? And why it's "black" friday?

And, quite importantly, how do people end up dead?

Sure you get amazing deals on products but people die and get major injuries every year.
That is because people are stupid. You can't ban store sales for that.

Thats like saying "Lots of people die in car crashes so we should ban cars"

you do realize why black friday exists right? its to make room for all of the new inventory for the holiday season. a store can only hold so much merchandise and without a giant sale, like black friday, every store would either have to throw out their out dated merchandise or stay out of date and not have the "new" thing that everybody must have

Why? Because it's got the word 'black' in it?

That's seriously what I thought when I read the title. But then I read the OP and was like "Oh ok, nevermind."

OT: No, that's ridiculous. That's like banning tables because someone stubbed their toe on one.

First off, I hope it never goes away. For my mother, sister and I, it's like another holiday. I love it!

Secondly, for those who had a question on it's name... It's always on the Friday after Thanksgiving(Thursday). "Black" is a retail profit term and when you are "in the black" you have made a lot of profit that day. The opposite being "in the red" in which you lost money that day.

I never saw the logic in it (more with the day).
I mean in commonwealth countries they have boxing day. that is usually when everything goes on sale and people fight then. it is right after Christmas so you know what you did not get and depending on the family member, you also get money. soo shopping money and shit goes on sale? AWESOME! why do it after thanksgiving?
I don't see it as a bad thing it is just being careful and realising that maybe I don't have to cut a ***** for a bag that is 75% off. even if it is the best bag you have ever seen.

Black Friday, it is like the boxing day for Americans but it is after thanksgiving which is the end of November but it always falls on friday.
the black aspect is that in accounting "in the black" mean they are in pure profit territory.
hope it helps.

Not ban, but control. The trampling and such is because they open the doors and allow hundreds of people rush in at once. If they just let people in slowly, and a few at a time, it wold make life so much easier.

I work in retail and Black Friday is freaking psycho, not to mention guests are damn rude. When I was working last year people were practically running each other over for tv sales, that two weeks later were basically the same price that they were on Black Friday. I just like to laugh at the crazy people standing in line outside in the cold waiting to come in...haha...some were there all night...

This sound a bit fethed up(ok really fethed up) bbbuuuuuuuttttt am i the only one who finds the above mentioned tramplings kinda funny?Come on, think about it, picture of a herd of overweight, mouth breathers acting like cattle that just realised their on the way to the slaughter house and try not to laugh. Not at the poor sod's getting crushed but the absurdity that shit like this actually happens in this country. A lot.

by this logic everyone and every idea should be killed at birth to keep them from doing something stupid.

you could get killed by ANYTHING, including a bag of ham, if you tried to eat the whole thing in one bite you would choke to death. So....the idea the OP puts out of banning Black Friday is stupid.

Black Friday shouldn't be banned. People just need to exercise common sense better on that day especially. I've learned to avoid it altogether by doing internet shopping. Anyone who finds themselves having to get more and more armored each year just to go out that day, should probably do the same.

Crowds of human beings are like a crashing wave and it's best to stay out of their way.

Yes. I'm fucking tired of hearing retarded deaths of people being trampled by crowds, and everyone complaining when they close for investigation.

We don't have this in the UK, but if you ban the day, it'll just move to another one.

You guys have all of your celebrations at one end of the year, no wonder it gets so crowded
