Pretty basic question here; since cellphones are now basically personal computers/cameras/phones/etc, kinda like Leela's arm thingy, should they be called something else?

I'm shooting for Coms. It's got a good sci-fi history, it's short (for communicators, obviously) and easy to remember and it lets you do just as the name implies, in many new ways, instead of just audibly, like a phone.
CALL THEM PIP BOYS, CALL THEM PIP BOYS! *I just noticed Leela's arm thing is like a pip boy*

In Australia they are called Mobile Phones. And that is what they are; mobile phones. Why should we change it?
Mobile camera GPS gaming systems with an inbuilt phone somewhere in there.
..

Mobile is probably a better term for it rather than Mobile Phone.

Called "Mobile Phones" or "Mobiles" here in the UK, nobody says "Cell Phone" here at all. Mobile fits it fine.

We in the non American world (a majority) call them MOBILE PHONES, which they are. I see no reason to change the name because the name suits. We call actual 'cell' phones, ie phones which operate on batteries, 'cordless phones'.

Here they're called Mobiles. It's very suitable, because they're mobile...
Mobile what though? Say phone, and if it takes pictures, texts and surfs the web, I'll e-smack you for not reading the OP.
Mobile multi-purpose devices. Mobiles for short.
Mobile just seems kind of redundant to me. I mean, what isn't mobile these days? But you may be onto something with the MPD (multi-purpose device). ^_^
Problem with that is that it's too generic. It doesn't tell me what it is. It tells me that it does a couple of things, but for all intensive purposes (they see me trolling...), it's just a widget. Phone, or mobile phone gives an idea of what it is. Just with tons of added features.

MPD would grow to have obvious connotations towards what we now know as mobile phones, but why bother when they already allude to what it is, despite the name?

Oh, I just think we should to change things up and to be more clear on the devices function.
But Com or Omni-tool is actually less clear than 'phone'.

Fancy that.
Unless I wanted to surf the web, and someone handed me their phone. I'd be all, does this have internet? Hence, confusion, as not all phones do.

DUDE! It's a PHONE! It's primary function is to make phone calls. Very few people even use all the crap phones are loaded with these days, because of the low battery life.
I think you're taking this a bit too seriously.

I still have a Sony Ericsson K750 and I don't even text people. I also might snap a pic every once in a while.
I'm I never really took this seriously, bro, I was just posing the question, giving my opinion, and everyone immediately jumped on the "IT'S A PHONE A PHONE A PHOOOOOOOOOOOOONE SRSBUZNZ WTFIZWRONGWITUARGLEBARGLE!!!1!" train.

Yeah in england theyre Mobile Phones or mobile for short. To be honest, it doesnt make a difference if they change the name of them. People will still refer to them as cell/mobiles.
