By dueling i'm referring to the sword or pistol duel. And I see no problem with it, although that doesn't mean I think it's right.

I don't think that it's really murder because the other person agreed to it, but it's not really suicide because the point of the duel is to not get killed.

I'm asking this out of boredom.

Hm. It would certainly help with overpopulation, but it would also put a massive strain on the emergency services, which are better off treating injuries stemming from a non-trivial source.

No for the simple fact it would make everyone seem like posh rich people, that and people could challenge you to a duel for stupid shit because that's how people are. I can just imagine how some duels would start "sir you have just insulted my pickle, prepare to die, I challenge you to a duel."

On another note the number of idiotic people would decrease but the problem is that it would create a new breed of super idiots who can't be killed in a duel and they would someday take over the world.

I suppose I wouldn't mind if they were legal. Although, I do think that it might be a bit odd, because modern bureaucracy would probably require a lot of paperwork to organize a proper duel. You know, signing several forms to let people know that you are totally OK with getting killed by this person you hate.

And what if they cheat to win? Then someone dies, and someone else is a dishonorable jerk. I don't think it would work, even though I wouldn't have a problem with it.

Yup. What two consenting people do is none of the government's business.

Yes.
But lethal weapons are banned.

Paintball Duelling or something humiliating like a whole wet salmon or handbags.

Handbags at dawn would be amazing, pure comedy.

It'd logically be murder or assisted suicide, which is to say manslaughter.

The problem with legalizing dueling is that it could likely be a gateway for questionable precedent.

Objectively I don't see much of a problem with it, but I don't like the fact that it indirectly promotes conflict resolution through violence rather than reason.

Maybe not a duel to the death. Sort of like a fight, but its until the other person gives up. So no continually beating the shit outa ppl once they had lost. Also, no jumping in when the more popular party begins to lose. I hate that shit. And you can't seek revenge on someone when they beat your friend or sibling etc. And no unfair advantage (knives etc). Although if someone pulled a pathetic pen knife on me I'd pull my ornate dagger with an image of cthuhlu carved into the hilt ^^ (saying 'this is a knife' or something like that.

You can tell I've thought a lot about this. :p

Police Officer: "You shot that guy! You are under arrest."
Thug: "Oh...officer, it was a duel...yeah, that's the ticket. It was totally consensual."
Police Officer: "Do you have any evidence of that?"
Thug's Fellow Gang Members: "We're witnesses! It was totally consenual."
Police Officer: "Well, okay then. Carry on!"

It wouldn't do much to stabilize society. The winner is left open to revenge killings by family members of the vanquished, there's the possbility of cheating, and so on.
