Depends how far we go with the said dueling. I don't think sword dueling would be a problem, permitting the combatants wear protective armour, and abide by set rules. Such as fencing shall we say. Lethal sword dueling I'd disagree with. Pistol dueling would be harder to safety proof and so I'd disagree with it, using fake pistols which fire something non-lethal, like paintballs or something, would be fine though, possibly. Consequently I vote a resounding, maybe.

It's 2011- no.
Such archaic means of settling trivial matters have no place in our society anymore. Not to mention that they would just become a spectator sport for the rich.

There are civil ways to solve your squabbles. If you want to kill or fight someone, encroach on another individual's rights in the preservation of your honor (or worse someone elses' honor) then fine, go right ahead and do so, just know that you will be arrested and charged for murder and throw away any potential or semblance of a normal life you once had.

Yes, I think it should be legal.
But then again, I also think they should have criminals fight to the death in arenas for the people's amusement again.

First thing I want to say. For all those who are saying that it should be legal to duel in a non-injuring/non-lethal way. It is. If you and I want to fence each other with sport foils or handbags...there is no law against that.

Second thing,

As long as both parties have to agree to it, then yes. Violence is a good way to solve problems sometimes, and I'm one of the rare few people who believes that honor is important, and to die fighting for something to believe in is an honorable death- more than most people can lay claim to.
I actually am skilled with the rapier. I think it would be the exact opposite of honorable behavior for me to challenge someone to a duel and then kill them because they insulted me at a faculty meeting or something like that.

Killing people because they upset you is not honorable, it is bullying.

Also, solving problems with violence to satisfy "honor" is also usually not honorable at all. You know who cares a lot about their honor? The lunkheads on Jersey Shore, especially Ronnie, who like to destroy people or property in order to satisfy his "honor." Disgusting.

Of course! My deck would destroy all of yours! I would just have to dust it off and pull out...oh wait. We're talking about gun duels? Eh. sure why not. Idiots can be idiots i guess.

Most duels wern't to the death. Usually only until first blood was drawn, if it did result in the death then the person would still be subject to the law.

Has anyone posted anything about Thunderdome yet?

That's what we need. Thunderdome. You have a score to settle with someone? You fight them. If they can kick your ass, then obviously your say doesn't matter. Someone wrong you and you want to fix it? Take it to the 'dome. Either beat them up and be equals, or they crush you and prove you're weak and pathetic and worthy of being belittled.

The only problem is that if you're the best gunman in the area nobody can ever argue with you. No imagine the best gunman is a dick who likes to rob people and beat the crap out of you...

I don't know it should really be legal. It is a practice designed to kill someone and the law states that only the state has the right to do that. Not to mention that if someone gets roped into a duel and killed he can't really make the argument that he never agreed or was mislead now can he?

It would save a lot of money for everyone involved and get rid of lawyers... Yes, lets do it! And we would use swords so that nobody would accidentally get shot. And swords are far more awesome. And then we'd get to carry a rapier to work. Sweat.

Solve a problem quickly, civilized and definitely? Heck yes! No more dilly-dally, just finish it and the topic is closed.

THIS. I'VE JUST HAD THE INSPIRATION FOR MY FIRST FILM.

Seriously though? Yes/ What two consenting people do shouldn't be the government's business. So long as the only people who get hurt are people that agreed to get hurt, I'm down with this.

If it were in a controlled arena, then why not? Fist fights, swords, axes, etc. To the death or until 1 surrenders. It would make for some great TV.
