Yes, and preferably auto save... I forget to quick save a lot, and that pissed me off in Doom 3, because I would have to start the entire level over again...

I do like how BioShock had it up until the end where they disabled it for the final boss, was fine with that...

Or what Painkiller did... hardest difficulty, they removed the quick saving ability...

All with ya man. Quick saves for me just ruins the challenge. It's like having save points everywhere, which is kinda pointless. I like dying from a game and having to that part again, it just proves that I wasn't up for it the first time to make it to another save point. With quick save however, that challenge just disappears, and you end up not getting a hang of the game. Which also disables the NEED to get the hang of a game, which makes it even more boring.

Still, a game isn't necessarily boring because it has quick-save, since there are other aspect to gaming than just difficulty. It's up to the developers.
Point is it's completely optional. If it's an optional extra that most people enjoy, put it in you fiend!

Quick saves are good. In some games they have their own file (Mass Effect). I believe every game should have it because sometimes saving just leaves people's minds; I know because my brother can be playing for hours and I have to remind him to save. Me, I save whenever I have a chance to.

Auto save? Yes and no. It really depends on the game and the sense of atmosphere they developers are trying to convey. Yes, a game lacking auto save is annoying. But if you're playing a game like RE4 or F.E.A.R., or even L4D, the lack of auto save adds to the feeling of fear and anticipation that you get not knowing when you're going to be safe and save again.

Of course they should have quicksave! It's always frustrating to come to a point in the game and have to leave 5 minutes from a save spot and do it all over again. Especially if it was hard work getting there.

Generally yes, but it all depends on the type of game.

I think part of the appeal and style of games like Dead Rising and Way of the Samurai was that they didn't have quick saves and only one save slot, so all you choices and decisions mattered a great deal since they couldn't be undone and affected the story in different ways.
However those games are very short and designed with lots of replay value in mind, and if you messed up and died (or prematurely finished the game) you could just start again but with all your experience and skills intact.

I think the poll needs a "maybe - depends on the game" option, because I can't answer yes or no, but that doesn't mean I'm ignorant about the subject matter.

I love quicksaving. In Deus Ex I saved like 4 times a minute.
Nothing says "fear of death" like pressing F5 every 15 seconds.

The only thing that sucks is when you attempt to jump a bottomless pit in Half Life and fail, and instead of quickloading you quicksave -> endless loop of death.
It was + in Deus Ex. You're right about the bottomless pit thing though. I quicksaved on Max Payne once a split second before a bullet killed me. Back to the start of the level.

It's very, very useful on crash happy games like Oblivion. I quick save nearly every time I go through a door.

Yes. If someone doesn't like it they just don't use it.

BUTTTT no more of those Force saves (YES I'M TALKING TO YOU FABLE 2!). The worst has to be when it save right after you drink the sex-change potion for shits and giggles, then your stuck that way.

I'm gonna go against everyone else and say no they shouldn't. What i've learned from quick saving is that if you save in the wrong spot it can lead to something really stupid and unavoidable (which most likely leads to death). To me i'd rather get Checkpoints and Auto-save/Save Points because then you save when you need to and you don't have to start something over from the very beginning as long as the checkpoints are spaced around the game evenly.

Basically this ^

I voted yes, since most of the time it's so irritating when there isn't quick save.

But at the same time, quicksave wouldn't work with every game. Imagine a game that relies on fear, where you have to struggle just to get to the next checkpoint, and the atmosphere builds up so you feel totally immersed in the game. I would disagree with those kinda games having quick save, just because it would break the tension, and just would be a cheap cop out.

Probably. Depending on genres. Things like Farcry for sure, but only out of combat, imo.

Other things it can make it too easy. You shouldn't be able to quick save in say, a horror game, or in the middle of a fire fight. it should be available to remove having to redo things like traveling and cut scenes. But you shouldn't be able to save after you kill three guys, just so if you take to much damage fighting hte other three you can do it again for better results.

If any of that makes sense.
