No, it would make the game easier and take out the sense of achivement. It would also take out a part of the game that gamers are supposed to play around, knowing when to save and/or saving strategically. Is like modded arcades that allow kiddos to play with max gauge bar, they don actually learn how to play they just perform max moves after another i dont see what's the fun in it.

The answer to this should be 100% yes, because if you don't like quick saving, you simply have the option not to use it.
Then there should be a not dying option and a watch the ending option. If people dont like them they shouldn't use them.

When you play basketball, do you get teleported outside the gym and have to spend 3 minutes getting back to the basket when you miss a shot?

I want to meet the man who created Quicksave and give him the biggest hug ever. I wouldn't even say anything.

EDIT: Actually, I would whisper in his ear..."thank you"

All with ya man. Quick saves for me just ruins the challenge. It's like having save points everywhere, which is kinda pointless. I like dying from a game and having to that part again, it just proves that I wasn't up for it the first time to make it to another save point. With quick save however, that challenge just disappears, and you end up not getting a hang of the game. Which also disables the NEED to get the hang of a game, which makes it even more boring.

Still, a game isn't necessarily boring because it has quick-save, since there are other aspect to gaming than just difficulty. It's up to the developers.
Point is it's completely optional. If it's an optional extra that most people enjoy, put it in you fiend!
Haha, yeah I guess you're right. I just get caught up in the quick save function and sin (sometimes a lot if I SUCK) if there is one, which really ruins it for me... Shame on me!^^

I would like it if they just allowed you to save wherever, like in Pokemon. Yes, pokemon does one-up most save systems out there.

Fuck yeah, every game should allow you to save wherever, whenever.

For those who don't want it, they simply have the option not to quicksave or maybe play the game on a difficult 'Iron-man' mode which doesn't allow saving at all unless you exit the game.

Quicksaves only really belong in games where you die either very often or very easily, like real life combat sims.Games where you play as a character that always has a massive stockpile of ammo and regenerating health never really require them

I'm going to say no. I'm not saying that quick saves aren't useful it's just that you can remember when to hit "start' then "save" every once in a while and it seems kind of like cheating to have saves that often.

Definitely, there's nothing more annoying than playing Condemned 2, and fight through a super hard bunch of thugs only to get hit once by some random jerk and die.

Quick saving... Eh.

You can say "Oh, well, they don't have to use it if they don't want to." Well what kind of crap is that? Most of us are going to give in to temptation and use the quicksave to get us through a tough spot, thereby hindering that "omg I did it!" at the end when you finally beat it.

Here's the answer.

All games should do one of three things.

1.) Allow quicksave on easier difficulties, limit them on harder difficulties, and maybe even disable them on extreme difficulties. The Hitman games do this beautifully. If you don't want to challenge yourself or go for unlockables, play on an easier difficulty where you can spam your quicksave key all you want.

- Of course, some will still pull out the "don't do it if you don't want to" argument. Look, the developers of these games don't want you doing everything in the game right away. You have to work hard to meet certain goals. You don't have to work hard to quicksave all the time. Almost all of us use everything available to us to meet those goals. If they make it so everyone can quicksave all they want, most people are still going to use it in spite of wanting to challenge themselves.

2.) Put a time-limit on quicksaving. This could be done brilliantly, or retardedly. I wouldn't suggest it.

3.) Make an unlockable or achievement of some sort available if you beat the game on the hardest difficulty without quicksaving. See? Now we have a reason not to use it. The game has now challenged us. We don't have to come up with our own little ideas like "I'll only use the handgun on the final boss."

So, while I do agree that quicksaving should be used, it needs to be used responsibly.

Save points can be incredibly irritating, especially when annoyingly spaced out (looking at you, Killer7) so yes, quick saving should always be an option, even if you decide not to use it.

One way to make everyone happy: Have a optional quicksave function, like 80% of games have already. TAH DAH.

Soldier of Fortune, like a few other games mentioned here, had a pretty good system of quicksaving. On every level, you were given a variable amount of quicksaves to use wherever you wanted. Higher difficulties gave less, longer levels gave you a couple extra. I think this is really the best way to go as it captures the best of both worlds: The game still allows you to save when you think it's a good idea or if you have to save & quit, yet it forces you to not abuse or spam the quicksave/quickload keys.

Well, first of all, not all of us are paragons of the virtue of patience. Yes, some of us will be "weak willed". Does that mean we can't try to beat a game's most difficult challenge? No. Not at all. I am not one of those people, however, I'm just simply not going to do things to hinder myself from triumphing over the game. The game is going to have to do that for me. I don't overcome my own challenges, that has no reward. I have to overcome the game's challenges, which is far more rewarding, more practical, and often comes with actual rewards, such as an unlockable.

I, however, am not weak willed. My argument has it's base not in my own personal feelings, but in the grander scheme. I know not everyone is like me. I don't care how hard a game is, I just want to complete it and experience the entire thing. I would rather have quicksave in every game. However, I believe what I have previously outlined is the proper course of action to take.

Lastly, I believe if you had actually read my post, you would have realized I wasn't arguing against quicksaving, I was supporting it but in a reasonable and more compromising way.

Every game should let you save whenever you want, main reason being that you know sometimes things happen and I have to put my game down.

As for the challenge aspect, sure in Halo with regenerating health quick save would remove part of the challenge, but in such as Half Life where lost health is lost until you find a medi-kit it doesn't remove half as much of the challenge.

Also, I'm not entirely sure how it is now but PC games never used to auto save unlike console games. So it'd be a right ***** losing 3 hours play due to dying/a power cut/whatever.
