If you can stop yourself from playing and it wont be a distraction when there is work to be done, go ahead.

I couldn't stop myself playing Guild Wars during my schooling, so as a result i failed 2 classes before i stopped.

For one, you don't need a girlfriend. If there is a girl for you, date her: if not, wait for her.

For two, it depends. I thought of something similar when I came to college, but quickly banished the thought: to me, video games are more than a pastime, they are an art. My art. I study them, I critique them, I'm writing a story for one, heck, I'm writing a freaking book about them. They are my passion, and there would be absolutely no good coming of me leaving them at home.

If they do not mean all that much to you, you can leave it. But you must examine their role in your life: if they are just something you do for fun, maybe you should leave it. But if it's something more than that, if you see value in video games that makes them more important than any random toy, don't deprive yourself of them.

I say hold onto it for a little while. If you live close by to wherever you are keeping it, then you could pick it back up later in the year.
yeah, this is my plan seeing as how I live a good 20 mins away from where I'm going to college. I'm going to be in Boston, so it's not like I'm afraid of leaving home, trust me, I want out!
If you're only 20 minutes away, I agree that you should hold off on it until you get a feel for the campus, used to your classes, and settled in. Once you do, you can go and pick it up and get back into gaming, but starting out, it would probably be best to avoid the distraction of it for a little while.

I don't know, I've heard of guys who have lost everything like expensive equipment when someone broke into their dorms and stole them. But hey if you're smart about it and keep the place under lock and key don't let me tell you otherwise.

I voted no, so that if it's stolen you can't say I was a part of that loss :p

I'm heading off to college and as much as I love gaming I sort of want to put it on hold for a bit until I get settled in and stuff. Should i hold off on gaming for a little bit and then work it back into my usual routine. Quite honestly, I do not think I will have much time for gaming seeing as how Engineering is a shit-load of work and boy do I need a girlfriend.
My suggestion is to go with your gut. Move in your BARE essentials first. Then when you see if you have time, ship the other stuff over. Start small, lightweight, portable. One trip if possible. Then bring in all your luxuries and nick nacks if so inclined.
Also girlfriend? Good luck!

If you've got a few controllers, it'll be a bit of social fun. Also great stress relief after a shit day.

Absolutely NOT!!, considering you like gaming to the point of being a member of this forum, you will not have the self control to divide your time properly LOL!!

Believe me I have seen several dropouts due to excessive gaming here in college and its not pretty. My advice; leave it at home!
Man speaks the truth. Lord knows I wasted a few semesters gaming, which were luckily the basic community college variety. Seriously, unless you have good self control, and by good I mean extremely, holy crap I'm a Saint good, best to leave it.

Off Topic. Awesome name and avatar pic Tetranitrophenol, I assume you're an organic chem major or grad student?

I'd bring it; as said by some other people, it'd be better to have it and not want to play than vice versa. If you're really committed to college, you won't let it hamper you.

I voted bring, but if you can wait until you know your room mates are trustworthy and won't steal it or get you banned. Also, if you can't manage to have fun time with your xbox whilst working and doing classes, you're probably not going to cut it as an engineer :)

Enjoy your classes!

What? Don't listen to this dude. Bring your 360. The first few weeks of college can be kind of rough, and I know my xbox really made it a lot easier. You just need to learn the discipline required to not play video games when you have shit to do.

Depends, are you a good student regardless of video games? If you can play and get stuff done, sure. But if not... Consider your grades and the fact that you/your parents/your bank is paying for your education, not just the suckers at public school. (Unless you went to private school... then my point is defeated...)

Bring it. It's a nice way to relieve stress when you're feeling overloaded.

Bring it.

And that Hamlet line has probably been quoted upwards of over nine thousand times. It's getting really annoying.

As long as you can be responsible and recognize when you need to turn it off and work on things, then there really shouldn't be an issue. When I first went to college, i brought both my pc and my ps2, but I didn't use them for months, simply because I was getting used to everything. After that adjustment period, however, they were one of the few things that helped me keep my sanity throughout the four year of undergrad.

I have a habit of doing my work before anything remotely enjoyable because if I have anything that's not done yet, it nags at me constantly until I get it done. Otherwise I find it hard to enjoy stuff because I constantly think "geez, I should really be doing that work thing"

If you're like me, you'd have o issue with an XBox 360 because you'd do your work first anyway.

Unless you great time-management skills and self-control, the answer is no. Take it from someone who goofed-off in his first semester because of the temptation in his dorm room was too great. You'll be doing your self a favour.
