Did no one even bother to LOOK at my list!? how can you even say that when there is a good portion of good games for the bloody thing. I don't want to post it again so please just go back to page 2 along with other people with skepticism.
Sorry, I was on break at work when I was posting here before so I didn't have time to read the whole thread.
Going back and looking at your list, I see a lot I passed over, and a lot I felt I wasted my time by pirating. To each their own I guess, but I will say this. I go from using my DS and my PSP in odd spurts. I've been on my PSP kick lately, so the comments I made above were made while I was having more fun with my PSP than I was with my DS. It's a momentary thing, and it will happen again after the current mode I'm in is over. Regardless though, if I can calmly trash-talk it while being the most happy with it I can be at the time, then that is truly saying something about how I feel about the system. I'm glad you like the PSP as it is a system that deserves some love, but it's been a disappointment for me, and it's been so for a lot of other people. When I get into discussions like these, I usually do recommend the purchase of the PSP. However, I also give a fair warning that it may leave a lot to be desired. I just didn't have that much time to state my place on the issue because my break was almost up both times I posted.
Edit: Going back even more I see TONS of misinformation. HOLY DAMN! C'mon guys, it's one thing to fanboy a system because you're happy with it, but don't make shit up!
yea and the screen gets scratched really easily, so you gotta be careful with it. I learned that the hard way.
The 2000 is pretty nice being scratch resistant compared to the 1000. I can't say I've done a ton of testing on this matter, but it's clear that worse-case-scenario, it will hide the scratches more than the 1000. I've always had some sort of protection on mine. I wouldn't recommend thrusting the bare system in your pocket under any circumstances though. The pocket lint is terrible on portable systems.
This is also all the more reason to get the 1000, you can probably find one online for $50.
I have both 1000 and 2000, and the 2000 it better in about every way. I wouldn't buy another 1000, even for $50. The only complaint I have on the 2000 is it feels light and cheap compared to the 1000. That said, the 1000 feels like it will shatter if it's dropped because of how heavy it is. The 2000 feels like it would survive a fall better because it's a lot lighter. Once again, I have not tested this (why would I?), but that's the worst thing I can say about the 2000.
But if you're into homebrew, I've been told taht the 1000 model is the best for that kind of stuff.
As long as it's an older 2000, there is nothing that my 2000 hasn't done better than my 1000. Even my SNES Emulator runs better. You wont be able to use the IR port on the 2000 (there isn't one) so that one homebrew app for using your PSP as a tv remote won't work anymore (not like it did for me anyway).
Uhh you forgot the 3000 has a buit in mic.
NOT A HELPFUL FEATURE! The mic was used for only a few things to begin with, and you can still buy an external if you really miss it. Given the current loss of homebrew for this mic, the $20 or whatever sony wants to gouge you for is not worth the tradeoff. Still voting 2000.
Lumines makes PSP worth the money.
And Meteos makes the DS worth the money, and Advanced Wars and Mario Kart and.....
'K, I admit, I didn't find Lumines all that magical, so I'm not the one to comment on that game, but Meteos is so hardcore, that I'm shocked I don't hear more about it from other people. BTW, ignore the Disney version.
But they are still roughly the same length, width, and thickness, that is what i was referring to. Sorry for that confusion but you should understand.
Numerical dimensions notwithstanding, the PSP just feels bigger in my hands. In some ways this is better, in others, not. There are games on the DS that are hard to control because of the small system, and same with the PSP. There are also games on both systems that the handheld just kinda disappears in my hands. It's all about how you hold it and how your hands are shaped.
As for the DS, it has one advantage over the PSP and it is the game selection, and well, WTF do you expect from a systme that has BC for DS/GBA/CGB/GB?! thats fucking 4+ generations of games that can be played on it!
NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!!!! The DS will NOT play GB/GBC games. ONLY DS AND GBA! The PSP will play GB/GBC on an emulator though!
i've played a DS. Had my friends for liek 2 months. Beat all the games for it and was told the 2 games you need to have are Nintendogs and Brain Age.
Your friend is retarded. Those are probably the two worst games on the DS because they spawned all the utter shit that is plaguing the system now. Don't get me wrong, they aren't *terrible* games, but they are only good as a novelty and not as real games.
They Have already Cracked the PSP 3000, there is a firmware out for it.
This is news to me. I can't say I'm all there, 100% in the scene, but I'm pretty sure I would have heard something definite. All I heard is that Datel made a battery that could be *USED* to hack it, but the actual hacking is still not complete.
PSP'S SUCK (In my opinion)
~Graphics suck
~Rarely any good games
~Cant freakin' hear anything even with headphone
~Hard to control
1)no
2)sure, kinda. eeeehh... yes.
3)no
4)no (depends)
Not misinformation, but really good comments!:
In short, if you're in the market for both a portable game system, and a portable media player, then yes, go for it.
YES! It's how I look at mine. I take it to work at watch TV shows on it. It takes a little prep-work, but it's awesome!
The PSP is known for having a very high quality screen overall. It's quite fantastic for movies and video. The ghosting even on the 2000 model isn't bad at all. Considering the fact that the PSP 2000's screen is pretty good to begin with, I don't find the 3000's screen a worthwhile tradeoff. Especially considering the interlacing issues.
Another yes! The PSP screen is great, and it wasn't until the 3000 was released and people were saying "finally a better screen!" that I noticed anything wrong with the 1/2000's screen. It's all just nitpicking.
I got mine the day after they were released. I got about four games for it in the two years I had it. I played it for a cumulative total of less than 12 hours in that time. I sold it for a fraction of what I paid and have never regretted doing so.
I scoffed at the PSP for a long time, and I finally broke down and bought one because there were some good games out for it. I got tired of them in less than 2 weeks. I bought it expecting to NOT hack it because I knew Sony was just keeping up and it sounded like it was just going to be a headache. It was that week that D_A released his HEN exploit. I ended up hacking it and never looked back.
Also the "knob" wears off
I can't say I've seen this happen on mine. The grip did kinda wear off on my 1000, but the nub is just as shitty as it was from day 1. That reminds me, the 1000's D-pad is the worst d-pad ever. It makes the 360's seem usable. YOU CAN NOT HIT DIAGONALS ON IT! I had to pop mine open and put some pieces of plastic in the pad's mechanism to create a better connection. Worked like a charm, but the pad is stiffer now, and it's so much nicer to use the 2000 now.
if you ask me look forward to the Nintendo DSi
As a DS fanboy, I think the DSi looks like shit. But that's another argument for another time.

So now that I've done a full commentary on the thread, I'm off to bed.
