A closed DS lite is .01mm smaller than a PSP. Oh, jeeze, I SURE can feel that difference in my pocket.

I disagree with the DS is better argument, even though saying so will get us nowhere. I've spent 3 times longer playing my PSP than my DS, and PSP's homebrew capabilities are waaaaaay better.

That I did. Then again you could always plug a mic in anyways :p.

You can get a modded 2000 model on ebay as well. :S I modded mine myself, it's pretty simple.
Uhh, I don't see anything in your post about 3000 pros/cons about the mic, maybe its on the first page?

Anyways, you have to buy a headset with the mic/headphone on one plugin thing, inorder to use a mic, a regular mic won't work.

As for the DS, it has one advantage over the PSP and it is the game selection, and well, WTF do you expect from a systme that has BC for DS/GBA/CGB/GB?! thats fucking 4+ generations of games that can be played on it!

PSP is obivously going to suffer because you can't just plug in an old psx game! (I wish they had some kind of support for that though, would be FING AWESOME, just think if they released a tool, that would allow you to put the game data into a file, that is tied to your PSN ID?! GENIUS!

I've played a DS. Had my friends for liek 2 months. Beat all the games for it and was told the 2 games you need to have are Nintendogs and Brain Age. As for My PSP its actually making me money. I have a 1000 and it easily fits in my pocket. Also who ever said a PSP 1000 goes for 50 bucks no offense but your an idiot. They are the best ones to own and easiest to hack you can do a ton with them up to making them into universal remotes. As it stands you can't Mod a 3000 or the newer 2000 series but they are going to crack it eventually. And i have had mine for more then a year and haven't needed to update to OFW since i first hacked it. So if your going to choose based on these posts i would say if you know someone who can help you pick out a hackable one and can hack it then do so. But if not i won't say get a DS. Just cause i didn't have fun doesn't mean you won't.
You, sir, need to read more than 3 words before you call someone an idiot. I obviusly said about 3 or 4 posts earlier that I recommend above all three versions the PSP 1000, and an added bonus was that you can find them for $50. And, you obviously don't know much about PSP's, because the 2000 is also moddable.

I spend 5 posts defending the thing and someone thinks I hate it? Jeeze.

EDIT: Here, buddy.

I have a 1000, and as for the games I've purchased for it, it's alright. Not the greatest thing ever but kept me entertained for a long while. Modded it up with a pandora battery and added some SNES games and beefed it up with other uncondoned activities and I've really got tons of playing time off of it. Anyway, if you could get a 1000, I'd get that, otherwise, I guess the 3000 is probably better than the 2000.

The size of the 1000 is honestly not a big deal, it's hardly noticeable.

I have the PSP 2000, with 17 games, it's got some really good games and you can play it on the TV. It's all a matter of preference really, if you like platformers DS might be better for you if you like ...PS2 games, it might be a good investment.

Just versions of games in the more center of mainstream, for which you could probally buy all you wish for at the moment with the cash for a PSP

I have both a Ds Lite and recently acquired a PSP 3000 with three games, God of War: Chains of Olympus, FF7: Crisis Core, and Final Fantasy Tactics, all of which I heard were good games for the system. I have to say that I've scarcely left my PSP laying around since. While my DS is still fun, I have to say I absolutely love the PSP, from eye popping cutscenes to non-stop action I have to say its all there, and i've only three games! For the DS I also have many of the claimed best, but none of them can stand up to my new favorite 3 hand held games. While I do still enjoy my DS, I have to say it'll be gathering dust for a while due to my new hand held console. :D

You ruined your own poll by including the option to spend the money on hookers, a lot of people will go for that :p
I got both a PSP and a DS, and I can tell you my PSP gets a lot more use, ironically not so much from playing games but for its other features, if you are the kind of person who doesnt go out the door without an Ipod, the PSP will be great for you. I hate having to take many devices with me, the DS is a good portable console and has better games if you are into RPG/puzzle games than the PSP, but its just a portable console and nothing else which for me is a deal breaker when I have to chose which Im taking out with me.

Now if only someone released a mod to make my PSP into a cell phone Id be so happy.

These are a few responses in my opinion.

Graphics suck? What?! Go look up any cut scene from Final Fantasy: Crisis Core and there you go.

Rarely any good games? Theres a list of over 30 on page 2.(Made by Seraph)

Cant hear anything- I can't argue since my environment is usually quite, thus I can hear fine.

Hard to control- While the stub of an analog can be annoying I really can't see any other problems.

I used to own both a PSP and a DS

I enjoyed the DS more because its cheap, it had fun, simple traveling games and I could chuck it into a back pack, not worry about the screen breaking and go

also...you can play Gameboy advance cartridges (pokemon!11!!!!!) and that has some great games as well
it has a chat feature
Wi Fi capabilities and can connect with other DS's within 60 Ft without a WiFi zone
it also has good battery life (the first DS could go for 7-8 hours with full back light and 14-16 without the back light) (The "DS light" has a better lighting system and is smaller and more boxy so it fits in pockets better) another thing to look at is that the DS was never made to go head to head with the PSP but it has competed well.
(With the proper mods you can also surf the web and watch movies, you can get a kit off of EBAY)

The PSP was durable had some fun games, but I felt the price was high for that system, and the screen felt REALLY exposed. I mean hooker in a 3rd floor window in a miniskirt and high heels kind of exposed.

Also the "knob" wears off (comparable to the Gamecube C stick)it also causes your hands to hurt and slide off of it causing a permanent oil streak across the bottom left side of the screen.
I think Nintendo has always preformed well in the hand held arena and the DS shows it.
With a little tweaking the PSP could have been great, but for the first Sony traveling game system its ok.

if you ask me look forward to the Nintendo DSi <-- (now it has a camera) http://kotaku.com/5057870/nintendo-announce-new-ds-the-nintendo-dsi

(sorry for the book)

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Yes. If you hack it.

Portable PSX and SNES games make the system, not the PSP games themselves. If you want good games from a portable system that is fun out of the box, get a DS. The PSP is good for everything other than its own games.

My answers yes. You can have a hell of allot of fun with it if you know what to do with it and even if you don't the game liberty is huge your bound to find something you like.

There is one rule to life that everyone should follow verbatim: if hookers is an option, it's always the best answer. For everything. Including realtionship problems, which it is always an option for.

But that the real problem now. its good for everything. It's not great is the real problem. All the games on it are just horribly dumbed down versions of games that are on the full consoles, and even if they are good, then you still have to deal with the cramped controls. No. the game library isn't that great.

There is:
Dungeon siege
FF7:CC
GoW
Patapon
Metal Gear Acid/PO
GTA:LCS/VCS
aaaand what else? That's all I've ever played/heard others rave about. Hell, the only one I've played is Dungeon Siege. The library is on the side of piss-poor. For a Nintendo competitor, it is a pretty good selection, but to make it sound like the system has endless hours of entertainment is a stretch. Even if you disagree with everything I'm saying, keep in mind we are not talking about you here, but if the OP should buy one. What about the PSP does it do to appeal to the general gaming market? If he went on your word alone, there is a strong chance he would be disappointed. He's got to weigh in all the angles of the aguement, and just saying that "the library is guud" isn't a lot of help.

Did no one even bother to LOOK at my list!? how can you even say that when there is a good portion of good games for the bloody thing. I don't want to post it again so please just go back to page 2 along with other people with skepticism.

Sorry, I was on break at work when I was posting here before so I didn't have time to read the whole thread.

Going back and looking at your list, I see a lot I passed over, and a lot I felt I wasted my time by pirating. To each their own I guess, but I will say this. I go from using my DS and my PSP in odd spurts. I've been on my PSP kick lately, so the comments I made above were made while I was having more fun with my PSP than I was with my DS. It's a momentary thing, and it will happen again after the current mode I'm in is over. Regardless though, if I can calmly trash-talk it while being the most happy with it I can be at the time, then that is truly saying something about how I feel about the system. I'm glad you like the PSP as it is a system that deserves some love, but it's been a disappointment for me, and it's been so for a lot of other people. When I get into discussions like these, I usually do recommend the purchase of the PSP. However, I also give a fair warning that it may leave a lot to be desired. I just didn't have that much time to state my place on the issue because my break was almost up both times I posted.

Edit: Going back even more I see TONS of misinformation. HOLY DAMN! C'mon guys, it's one thing to fanboy a system because you're happy with it, but don't make shit up!

yea and the screen gets scratched really easily, so you gotta be careful with it. I learned that the hard way.
The 2000 is pretty nice being scratch resistant compared to the 1000. I can't say I've done a ton of testing on this matter, but it's clear that worse-case-scenario, it will hide the scratches more than the 1000. I've always had some sort of protection on mine. I wouldn't recommend thrusting the bare system in your pocket under any circumstances though. The pocket lint is terrible on portable systems.

This is also all the more reason to get the 1000, you can probably find one online for $50.
I have both 1000 and 2000, and the 2000 it better in about every way. I wouldn't buy another 1000, even for $50. The only complaint I have on the 2000 is it feels light and cheap compared to the 1000. That said, the 1000 feels like it will shatter if it's dropped because of how heavy it is. The 2000 feels like it would survive a fall better because it's a lot lighter. Once again, I have not tested this (why would I?), but that's the worst thing I can say about the 2000.

But if you're into homebrew, I've been told taht the 1000 model is the best for that kind of stuff.
As long as it's an older 2000, there is nothing that my 2000 hasn't done better than my 1000. Even my SNES Emulator runs better. You wont be able to use the IR port on the 2000 (there isn't one) so that one homebrew app for using your PSP as a tv remote won't work anymore (not like it did for me anyway).

Uhh you forgot the 3000 has a buit in mic. ;)
NOT A HELPFUL FEATURE! The mic was used for only a few things to begin with, and you can still buy an external if you really miss it. Given the current loss of homebrew for this mic, the $20 or whatever sony wants to gouge you for is not worth the tradeoff. Still voting 2000.

Lumines makes PSP worth the money.
And Meteos makes the DS worth the money, and Advanced Wars and Mario Kart and.....

'K, I admit, I didn't find Lumines all that magical, so I'm not the one to comment on that game, but Meteos is so hardcore, that I'm shocked I don't hear more about it from other people. BTW, ignore the Disney version.

But they are still roughly the same length, width, and thickness, that is what i was referring to. Sorry for that confusion but you should understand.
Numerical dimensions notwithstanding, the PSP just feels bigger in my hands. In some ways this is better, in others, not. There are games on the DS that are hard to control because of the small system, and same with the PSP. There are also games on both systems that the handheld just kinda disappears in my hands. It's all about how you hold it and how your hands are shaped.

As for the DS, it has one advantage over the PSP and it is the game selection, and well, WTF do you expect from a systme that has BC for DS/GBA/CGB/GB?! thats fucking 4+ generations of games that can be played on it!
NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!!!! The DS will NOT play GB/GBC games. ONLY DS AND GBA! The PSP will play GB/GBC on an emulator though! :D

i've played a DS. Had my friends for liek 2 months. Beat all the games for it and was told the 2 games you need to have are Nintendogs and Brain Age.
Your friend is retarded. Those are probably the two worst games on the DS because they spawned all the utter shit that is plaguing the system now. Don't get me wrong, they aren't *terrible* games, but they are only good as a novelty and not as real games.

They Have already Cracked the PSP 3000, there is a firmware out for it.
This is news to me. I can't say I'm all there, 100% in the scene, but I'm pretty sure I would have heard something definite. All I heard is that Datel made a battery that could be *USED* to hack it, but the actual hacking is still not complete.

PSP'S SUCK (In my opinion)
~Graphics suck
~Rarely any good games
~Cant freakin' hear anything even with headphone
~Hard to control
1)no
2)sure, kinda. eeeehh... yes.
3)no
4)no (depends)

Not misinformation, but really good comments!:
In short, if you're in the market for both a portable game system, and a portable media player, then yes, go for it.
YES! It's how I look at mine. I take it to work at watch TV shows on it. It takes a little prep-work, but it's awesome!

The PSP is known for having a very high quality screen overall. It's quite fantastic for movies and video. The ghosting even on the 2000 model isn't bad at all. Considering the fact that the PSP 2000's screen is pretty good to begin with, I don't find the 3000's screen a worthwhile tradeoff. Especially considering the interlacing issues.
Another yes! The PSP screen is great, and it wasn't until the 3000 was released and people were saying "finally a better screen!" that I noticed anything wrong with the 1/2000's screen. It's all just nitpicking.

I got mine the day after they were released. I got about four games for it in the two years I had it. I played it for a cumulative total of less than 12 hours in that time. I sold it for a fraction of what I paid and have never regretted doing so.
I scoffed at the PSP for a long time, and I finally broke down and bought one because there were some good games out for it. I got tired of them in less than 2 weeks. I bought it expecting to NOT hack it because I knew Sony was just keeping up and it sounded like it was just going to be a headache. It was that week that D_A released his HEN exploit. I ended up hacking it and never looked back.

Also the "knob" wears off
I can't say I've seen this happen on mine. The grip did kinda wear off on my 1000, but the nub is just as shitty as it was from day 1. That reminds me, the 1000's D-pad is the worst d-pad ever. It makes the 360's seem usable. YOU CAN NOT HIT DIAGONALS ON IT! I had to pop mine open and put some pieces of plastic in the pad's mechanism to create a better connection. Worked like a charm, but the pad is stiffer now, and it's so much nicer to use the 2000 now.

if you ask me look forward to the Nintendo DSi
As a DS fanboy, I think the DSi looks like shit. But that's another argument for another time.
====================================================================
So now that I've done a full commentary on the thread, I'm off to bed.
