As I do not have a PS3 I can only say Xbox 360.
Xbox Live is pure ass, though.
Although I'm biased because I live in an area that is not supported by many important features which leave me with no way to renew my subscription...

We had both at one point, until the 360 died and we never bothered to replace it (this was awhile ago though). Go get a used one of each, perhaps? I voted for the PS3 though, just cuz I've been enjoying it so much lately.

Holy fuck, this is possibly the most balanced poll I have ever scene.

Anyways, it depends on what your interests are. Not interested in Blu-ray, but in games, you say? I'd go with the 360. The library is overall much bigger, and the online support is in my opinion, the best on the market.

I would have said that you should go with the PS3 because its got better hardware and some good exclusive games, but judging by your tastes I think you should go with the 360.

Both systems have great games, and neither will let you down in terms of fun times.
I personally favor the PS3. Where this applies to you, is that the 360 has a tremendous fail rate that doesn't concern microsoft very much at all. I know people that are on their 6th 360 due to various failures. A couple of these people, and one close friend, bought a second 360 to use while their other box was out being repaired.
The PS3 suffers regular failures par for any electronic device in the modern era. Things can go wrong with any device, and the ps3 is no different. However, compared to the 360, the PS3 is masterfully crafted out of unfailing future technology.
Oh, and then you don't have to pay to play online. That's sure to save you money in the long run.

ps3 has better processor, video, etc. they also don't ban units for modding, so a used one off ebay is most likely good to go. they have less hardware issues, while the xbox is a little...TOO prone to the red ring. in fact, from a survey of gamers, FAR to many xboxes have failed (between 25% and 50%).
the ps3 has great exclusives, and the fragfx is much closer to a pc than an xbox will be, as the fragfx uses a mouse and other bits to be a great improvement over the controls. plus, there is the playstation move, which does stuff sort of like the wii, just not as badly as the wii. the xbox has games like gears of war 2, while the ps3 has stuff like killzone 2 and the darkness. the xbox is aimed at the more general/casual gamer audience, while the ps3 is aimed at more hardcore gamers. plus the ps3 has built in blu-ray, which saves the expense of buying a player.

The easiest way to decide is to buy whatever most of your friends have. If it's an even split, choose whichever friends you'd like to play with more. If you have no friends, buy an xbox and MW2 and mic spam, or a PS3 and MAG and... uh... mic spam.
Personally, I'd forego both and just soup up your PC. Why? Oblivion and Fallout 3 mods of course, the only reason ever to game.
