Is the right joystick ever a pain to use? It seems like it might be a bit awkward.
Not at all. I play Monster Hunter Freedom Unite all the time with it. Same with Uncharted. While Uncharted can use the gyroscope to aim, I usually keep using the right joystick. Other PSP games that use the control pad can easily be switched to the right stick and they work even better.
Is it backwards compatible? what's the graphics quality like? Some games on the PSP looked beautiful, Peace Walker for example, while others looked like something off the N64 without the good art direction.
It is backwards compatible, but you can only buy digital versions of PSP games currently in the store. The PSP graphics on the Vita look amazing. While play Monster Hunter with my friend, I decided to compare screens while he was playing on PSP and I was on my Vita. The Vita version has a much wider color capacity, less choppy pixels, and has an overall better picture. It makes a great improvement. Disgaea 1 and P3P also look very impressive on the wide screen.
Are the touchscreens really gimmicky, or actually useful? Sorry about all the questions.
No problem, dude. I'm happy to help.
It really depends on the game you play.
Uncharted, for example, uses the front and back touchscreens to solve some puzzles and allow you to navigate the environment with a single swipe of the finger.
Disgaea has no use for the touchscreens other than making the gameplay more convenient, like navigating menus quicker by flicking through the selected items, changing the camera, and just having fun.(In the Hub world, I got bored and decided what would happen if I touched one of the npcs. Turns out, you can use the touch screen to fling them. *Cue evil smile*) You can play the game without using the touchscreen options at all.
Gravity Rush is pretty dependent on the touch screen and gyroscope but it doesn't feel gimmicky at all (to me, atleast). You swipe the screen in the direction you want the protagonist to dodge while in combat, and you can put both thumbs on the corners of the screen and allow the protag. to do a gravity slide through the environment. You tilt the console while she's sliding left or right to make sharp turns and what not.
