having recently picked up a PS3, I'd say that if you can handle the financial hit, it's a solid investment. Also, I'm going to be on the Heavy Rain bandwagon. i've found that most of the people who deride it as just being a big quick time event haven't played it. I can't lie, that qte factors in heavily, but the way it's done is excellent. and the story is quite gripping.

plus get Mag and we'll get slaughtered together.

Heavy rain is basically Quick time event the movie the game. That should not be a buying incentive.
have you played the game? Its much more interesting and revolutionary than what you are making it out to be.
I played a little. What I saw supported my theories.

I've got both, and can guarantee two things: if you have the money (or friends with copies of games) to get your hands on the good stuff, it's absolutely worth having both. There are enough exclusive games or exclusive content that the only way to really get everything you can out of gaming is to own both. However, don't expect to use both equally--if you've had your Xbox longer, you'll still use that more (not that you won't use the PS3).

every time I walk into Best Buy or any other media outlet, the Blu-Ray section gets bigger and bigger. someone's buying.

I chose ps2 over xbox originally (as I'm sure most sane people did)
but I chose 360 over ps3 because of the prise, and the exclusive games microsoft had, and, until recently, haven't regretted my decision.
But now games like heavy rain are coming out and they look pretty amazing but even I have to admit, the wouldn't work on the xbox. Also my house doesn't have a blue ray player. So should I cross over to the dark side and but a ps3 as well as my xbox? Or should I save and just get all the amazing games I want for the xbox anyway???
I think a PS3 is definitely worth getting but like many people have said for multi platform releases the PS3 versions are usually handled poorly and because developers aren't really looking to make one version better then the other the best to hope for is that it going to be the same as the 360 version. But to be honest you are only going to know that there is a difference if you go online and look up a comparison and view the data, i've tried playing games side by side on both systems many times and despite the numbers telling me one was better in all honesty you would hesitate to put your money on a "victor"

PS3 exclusives are certainly worth buying the console for as in pretty much all cases they tower above the 360s in quality and graphics and that's on top of it being one of the cheapest and best blue ray players around and having free online play, better internet functionality and being easier and cheaper to get a larger hard drive for and use to store all your songs, videos etc...

I have both Systems and while i got my 360 first and play more games overall on it i feel the PS3 was more worth its money but with that said i wouldn't really ever want to be in a position to have to choose between them as if you can have both consoles then why not??

I have been a blueblooded Nintendo fanboy since the advent of N64.
Unfortunately, the Wii has had a lackluster performance, sucking my soul dry with torrents of causal fluff.

the PS3 has restored my faith in gaming. and it just keeps getting better.

Are there must have games FOR YOU on the PS3? Do your friends have it and if yes, do you plan on playing online with them?

They're both the same, really. PS3 just has more practical and efficient uses. I.E. free internet, Blu-ray, games that only the PS3 could handle.

Ever considered a gaming PC? I know it's on the expensive side compared to consoles, but it is worth it in the long run.

Or if you're not interested in the exclusives on PC, you should get a PS3.

I'd invite you over to play it for yourself, because it doesn't deserve to be degraded to such a level. The game really is an amazing experience and much much more.

Don't judge about Heavy Rain until you've played it all the way through, so that you know the story and who the real Origami Killer is. Seriously.

Games

MGS4, Uncharted 2, Killzone 2, LBP, Heavy Rain, Last Guardian, GoW 3, InFamous, Ratchet and Clank, Resistance 2, White Knight Chronicles, Upgraded Star Ocean/Tales of Vesperia.

FF7 international, FF13 if you live in Asia (which in case, you probably already have a PS3)

Off the top of my head

The PS3 is finally coming around, the only game I see as a major let down that the PS3 didn't pick up on was the Mass Effect series.

Either than that I say there's probably more to expect from PS3 now then there is in the 360, then there's MP and 360 has obviously won that category with the masses with this generation.

I got a PS3 just lately and I can't complain about the purchase. It's been a good system so far and I definitely dig not having to pay for the online service. Don't get me wrong, I liked my 360 while it actually lasted but after going through 3 of them I was pretty much done dealing with crappy construction. There are a good amount of games I like though obviously not as much as with the 360. Pretty sore about the fact that Metro 2033 and Splinter Cell Conviction won't be on PS3 though, the bastards.

I Can only hope there's no such thing as a PS3 Red Ring of Death issue!

In all I say, get yourself a PS3!
