Poll: Should I get Netflix?

Recently, I've been renting 1-2 movies a week on average from my local Blockbuster, and so I was thinking it might be easier and more convenient to get Netflix, especially because Blockbuster sometimes has a limited selection and charges more for new releases. However, is it worth it? Are there any annoying problems (ex: streaming speed)? How does it compare to Hulu Plus, Amazon Instant, etc?

Nah, I'd say stick with Blockbuster. I was in a similar situation not too long ago and found that Neflix isn't all that great for movies. If you want to watch TV shows or anime, Netflix has a pretty strong line-up, but the movie selection is extremely uneven.

There is a collection of mainstream blockbusters that they promote heavily, like Kick-Ass, Shutter Island, Iron Man 2, but once you've gone through those you realize that there isn't that much more to watch. Don't get me wrong, there are quality movies on netflix, but for me, four times out of five if I want a movie it isn't on netflix streaming.

I am not familar with Hulu Plus, but Neflix is a lot better than Amazon Instant. Amazon's selection has gotten a bit better, but its still pretty atrocious overall.

If you have a pretty good internet connection and don't mind watching a few duds to find some pretty good movies I'd get it. It doesn't have a ton of main stream current movies and doesn't get them until well after they've been on video for a while but it does have some pretty good obscure gems here and there. Also so as Savo pointed out it's pretty good with tv shows. Currently I've been on a horror kick and I've found some pretty good foreign and cult classics.

Well, the instant stream is very nice. I'm not too experienced with the disc service though it seemed nice enough.

Don't get unless you are running a windows machine[footnote]I'm not sure about Mac OS, though it runs using Microsoft Silverlight.[/footnote] or have a gaming console with which to run it. You can't stream on Linux

Netflix has every single episode of The X-Files streaming.
I'd say that makes your decision for you right there.

Seriously, though, I really do like the service. I stream stuff to my computer/PS3, and it's great. In fact, we only get on disc anymore at my house since most of what we watch we stream.
I'd say go for it.

I watch pretty much everything on Netflix and it definitely saves me a lot of money! I'd say go for it! And if you don't like it, just cancel the subscription and go back to renting. Though, I doubt you'll go back.

Try the 30 day trial, I did and stuck with it for like a month after.
After that I kind of ran out of stuff to watch, the net flix instant library can be very lacking at some points, it gets frustrating when you search like 3 or 4 things and its like sorry it isn't available to steam maybe you should upgrade and we can send it to you on a DVD.

I won't deal with Netflix because I don't like their business practices.

I use Amazon Prime Video (free videos + cheap/free shipping for $79 a year - $39 a year if you're a college student).. which doesn't have nearly as good a selection, but I prefer doing business with them.

I use Hulu myself (Which ALSO has X-files ) and like it just fine. Something about Netflix just rubs me the wrong way...

I've got a LoveFilm subscription £9.99 for unlimited discs by post and unlimited love film instant. The Love film instant isn't that great, there's a limited selection that I want to watch there are a lot of world cinema films. The odd british film hardly any new films the newest film on their is Unknown. I've been thinking of getting the Netflix one month trial to see how it is, now that I know it's got X-files I'm sold.

American Dad, King Of The Hill, South Park, Futurama, Chappell's Show, Reno 911, Ugly Americans, My Name Is Earl, Afro Samurai, and Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer are worth it alone. Have no idea how people have exhausted all the good movies and tv series Netflix has to offer in a months time.

That depends on what happened with Blockbuster now that i hear Dish owns them and they do not suck any more. For instance I got netflix renting a movie for 7 days was the same as a mouth of netflix.

Oh and it being minute late doubled that amount. Ahh the comedy of it all blockbuster fucked itself and gave rise to netflix then netflix gave a massive chunk back to blockbuster after they became the assholes

As has been noted, Netflix's streaming selection could generously be termed as patchy. More than half of the time, the things I want to watch aren't there, but they're pretty good at suggesting other things I might enjoy. My old roommate did the 3 movie delivery service and he was a big fan of it, but it is a very inflexible system if that's important to you. I also don't know what Netflix's rates are, but I feel like they went up quite a bit recently.

If you have Redbox around you, they are very cheap and usually have a very good selection for new movies. If you want to watch a lot of old movies, then Netflix is a flawed option, but it's probably the best.

I've been very happy with Netflix. And Blockbuster is an evil company that needs to die.

Go for it. Watch whatever you want streaming, then get the rest on physical discs. It has a ton of shows streaming and a number of good movies streaming too. It does not have everything (y no have Vampire Hunter D D, but it has a pretty damn fine selection. I am perfectly content with it.

Seriously, it has every single Star Trek show, Battlestar Galactica, Farscape, every Stargate show, Doctor Who, Buffy, AND Futurama, all on streaming. How can you go wrong?

Yes you should get it, it is totally worth it. My friend and I were really hung over one day so we spent it just watching hours of Kenny vs. Spenny.

If you watch lots of shows/movies then you really should get it.

Netflix is amazing. I suggest getting at least one physical movie at a time though, their streaming selection is pretty good, but there are a lot of movies and shows that aren't on instant that are really good.

It's hardly a replacement for going to a shop and picking it up, is it? You can't watch it on your giant TV as easily, unless you wait a few days for them to post it to you.
But then, you might own a laptop. And Netflix Online might actually upload some decent movies. Who can tell?!

Well, they have plenty of TV shows, but the movie selection isn't great, at least not up here in Canada, but as far as I know, you can try it for one month free, so you might as well give it a shot.
