So Skyrim is looking quite awesome . . . and there's dragons . . which are also awesome.

I loved Oblivion. LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED LOVED. However I played it just recently, and was able to purchase the GotY edition on Steam for less than $10. Like I did with Fallout 3, I played the DLC before I finished the main campaign, and I'm really glad about that. Bethesda usually gives you the best stuff in the DLC . . like the Disintigrator Ray from Mothership Zeta or the winterized Power Armor that never needs repairing from Operation: Anchorage. Same thing with Oblivion, I couldn't imagine doing the Knights of Nine quest line last, getting that awesome Crusader armor . . and then being done with the game. Also Dawn\Duskfang from Shivering Isles was my sword of choice.

So by now you may be thinking I've made up my mind . . . but as I said in the first line . . . Skyrim looks AWESOME. I don't know if I can wait. Sure, I'll save a whole lot of money by waiting . . . but . . . gosh darn it I just don't know what I should do!

I,m getting it on launch day. but it really depends on what you want. Do you want it on launch day and deal with the bugs and for more money. or wait until the price drops and they release the GOTY? i mean that could take months can you take the wait?

Logic says wait for the GOTY edition but come on, it's skyrim!

I want to wait till GOTY but I want to be playing it now, so waiting a year (guess) for GOTY to come out is too long.

I'd say wait, since it will almost certainly be horribly horribly broken when first released, like all Bethesda games.

Exactly that.
Bang for buck is at it's peek with the GOTY pack, most bugs get fixed and you get the full content, not to mention all the mods people will make by that time.

Now the question is how is your self restraint.

Both? Get it at launch now, ignore all the DLC, then get the GOTY in a year or two with all the DLC. Can then sell/give away old copy. More expensive but then you don't have to choose.

You probably should wait for the GotY but honestly... who is going to do that shit. I'm buying as soon as humanly possible on day 1.

Depends on what they do with the game itself, If it is dlc heavy, Which in this gaming climate is a big 10-4.

Then you should wait and conserve not only your money, but your experience with the game.

It's like if you were to never have played fallout 3 and get to have your first taste of it with all the dlc, just wandering around finding these things so epic they decided to release them at cost after launch.

I don't think I ever got to experience all the awesome content that came out mainly because I was burnt out of that game by the time they added all the cool new bits.

I had no intention of starting over and redoing everything off memory to see a big new quest line that I would have flipped out at the chance to do my first go around.

If you can wait for the full game, the way it was meant to be experienced with all the dlc, do it, if you can not and don't mind having the devs sort of retcon the story with dlc at points then go for it at launch

40 bucks in savings over the course of a year (assuming the price would drop that fast) is like $3.75 a month. If you have a job, it's nothing. I would say get it at launch. Besides bethesda usually keeps its DLC as standalone questlines. I bought all of it as it came out for oblivion and i never felt like it would have enriched the game had I had it from the beginning. In fact if anything Fallout 3's mothership zeta kind of ruined the atmosphere of that game a bit.

As hard as it might be, wait for the GOTY edition. Yes, it will require ultimate restraint, but really, there are about 20 other games coming out this season that are worth playing, and I'm sure you have some games in your back-catalog that need playing too.

You can play Skyrim and all its content the instant it comes out, paying what, $100+ in total? Just for it to be shiny and new?

What this guy said, plus todd Howard said that they keep some glitches in if they find them funny.

After the atrocity that was Fallout New Vegas, I'm never buying a Bethesda game at launch again. I'll wait a month or two and the purchase it, since by then all the game breaking bugs should be gone.

Pretty much this. Though I learned this lesson with Oblivion. Ah, Oblivion, you piss-poor optimized buggy mess...

So yeah, I'd just wait a few months. I don't recommend buying at launch. Better idea is to wait to see if the game is actually stable and not crash-happy. Plus, if you wait then some decent mods are sure to come out.

Wait for the GOTY edition for the love of god. Bethesda are notorious for launch bugs. I got the GoTY edition of Fallout 3 and it still has some pretty terrible bugs in it. Like the exorcist glitch...

I don't buy RPGs at launch anymore. There will always be some sort of gamebreaking bug or twelve that ruins the game (Such as "Man of the Cloth" from Dragon Age 2. Damn, that was annoying)

I say wait untill the first few patches are out.

THAT GLITCH IS NOT FUNNY. I can't enjoy Fallout 3 because of this bloody glitch. It's so immersion breaking. Particularly when it's in tandem with the glitch that prevents NPCs animating properly and they just float towards you locked in one pose or bolt upright.
