I know this post is almost 2 years old but I just wanted to give my opinion about World of Warcraft or any other MMORPG.

1) MMORPG friends aren't really friends. You just have same goals. More of coworkers relationship. The moment you "fail", they don't even want to know you.

2) You will never catch the dragon. What you think you have now, going to be vendor trash every 3 months.
didnt want to post here anything else, but had to say that i happen to know a group of people who met via wow and they occasionally meet up and have a beer or just hang out. im still against this game, btw.

and the dragon is a LIE!

I wouldn't bother. I'd invest the time in finding something you can enjoy just as much that doesn't incur regular fees. Why not use the money you'd spend on 3-4 months of play on another game that interests you? And if you're looking for the social aspect, one that offers online multiplayer or has an active community? That being said, I don't have a clue how much the fees are so for all I know 3-4 months worth might not actually be that expensive.

Still, I'd rather invest in something that only needed a one-off payment, say Guild Wars, for an example of an online-multiplayer, single-payment game with a relatively active community. But, in the end it's obviously up to you. The opinions you'll get here'll only confirm that.

I wouldn't were I you. You've got another expansion that you'd have to get, relearn you class, all of that.

All of that aside, i stopped some four months ago after doing a few H lk 25 kills, and have in the ballpark of 120 days played on just my main character.

Yes, you should if you are willing, it's a great moment to start afresh.

Also, I'm getting SOOOOO tired of the whole "oh noes wow ruin lives!!!11!!1!!" stuff: I have several characters at high enough level, play WoW no more time than other games, stopped and got back several times, and I have a full time job and a wife.

It depends, as usual, on how far do you want to go: wanna be a hardtime rider? Ok, you need to put much time in WoW.
If not (like me), not that much.
If you want to play an FPS competitively you have to put in it at least the same amount of time.

I quit for 9 months, then got a 10 day free trial for Cataclysm to see what it was like. Get a trial. I was bored by the end of the 10 days... see what happens

they've added alot stuff and changed others so yea give it a shot. Doesn't matter if you keep playing or not just that you gave it another chance or a chance which is more then most people do.

Do what we in the business community call an Ethical Decision-Making Chart. we use it for everything and look how it turned out for Goldman Sachs.

Are you able to control your own playtime of a video game? Do you think you'd have fun playing it? Then yes.

If not? Then no.

The Escapist is full of people who can only achieve sexual release from hating WoW, so this is a pretty bad place to look for any sort of rational discussion on the matter.

No, spend the money on other games. There you go. I quit 9 months ago and haven't looked back. The new expansion is just terrible from what i've heard.

EDIT: Holy fucktits batman, this thread is old.

Everything except version 1.0 of any MMO has ruined the game forever and made it totally unplayable.

If you want to, do it. But then you have no right to complain about not having IRL friends or a social life outside the game. It's your choice - if you think it's fun enough, then do it. But if you'd rather do other things (which is the vibe I'm getting from your post - pretty much saying that getting back to playing would be a waste of time), then get a hobby, take a course, try something new.

I've recently purchased cataclysm to see what all the fuss is about. Honestly I was very impressed by the recent additions, mostly the starting quests. Are they likely to get much more than 2 months out of me before I get bored again? Doubtful, but hey.
