I came here only to get ninjad by the first posts...
If we want a female Zelda game we just change so that the player controlls the other main character of the series.
I mean we already know she had to prove herself in Skyward Sword so what not play through those trials?
But not change the sex of Link, please no :(

How about a new protagonist? While I'm all for a strong female lead (more and more each day), have it be someone NEW. Give them a new background, a new quest, and some new weapons!

Have this new protagonist interact with other notable characters in the universe. This way, we can still tie it together with previously established games in the series.

Heck, if you pick a new character, you can even give them a VOICE! Because if it isn't Link, you won't squash people's interpretation of him.

I don't know if it can be done, but it would be interesting.
yeah would much rather have it like this, have link be the grandpa of the new female protagonist or something, as long as it ties into zelda lore/stories in some possible way, i'd rather have it fresh then boob swapping link and zelda.

Well, seeing as its been mostly agreed upon that the Games in LoZ universe are not actual sequals (unless they actually are), but simply the same story being told in a different generation, I dont see why there shouldnt be a generation where Link ends up being a girl just once, just like I dont see a problem with there being one generation where Link can actually talk.
Well there is an offical timeline and some games are direct sequels (like the Wind Waker Trilogy)

Since it hasn't been mentioned already:
Turning Link into a female would possibly lose a lot of the crossover demographic appeal that Nintendo has carefully cultivated with their current Link design and characterization(as 'iconic' as it is).
What would they do to make up for the loss of an opportunity to insert scenes like this into the game?! Do you want them to fail?!

I know of the timeline, as for the second part, thats why I said "unless they actually are" (BTW, I found Majora's Mask to be one of my top favorite Zelda game thus far, beaten by OoT simply because it was my first Zelda game.)

Still, even than, I see no reason why Link couldnt be a female in one part of that timeline.

Umm... no offence but, no. That's quite the most retarded idea I've heard in a while.

Why not make the next Duke Nukem game about a sensitive new-age guy in a hawaiian shirt defeating the alien hordes through strenuous negotiation?

I voted no, but I am not against a female link.

It comes down to the fact that honestly, I can't see the point. Just make a new female protagonist.

I'm sure I'll get some angry person quoting me telling me I'm an idiot but, yes. Zelda needs a change that isn't swinging a wii remote around, I've never been the biggest fan of the series however I have seen a chunk of the games all the way through and I've loved Twilight Princess. I think it would be amazing to see the Zelda series with a new protagonist & legendary weapon, maybe even twin swords or an axe, something that isn't Link+Master Sword+Zelda.

I'd like to see a female character similar to Link, but it won't be Link. Part of the mystique of the series is that the hero is always the same guy in every age. I think there's probably some meta-story going on there. I think it's supposed to be repetitive. I'd rather it be a new character or IP unless you justify and acknowledge that you're breaking whatever spell makes Link keep showing up the same way.

Maybe it could all happen in some alternate universe darkworld-variant where the legend is totally different. I don't mean marginalize it as irrelevant, that world should still be important, even to the main Hyrule, I mean make it gel with a world that apparently produces an identical hero periodically. Maybe female Link is the periodic hero of another, coexistent realm. Think about it, isn't Link a pig in the Darkworld in link to the past? Maybe those guys keep getting their own equivalent pig-heroes or something.

I've always wanted Shiek to be playable in a LOZ game, more nimble and athletic than link, but less heavy hitting.

Though the WiiU has DLC right? They would probably just make that sort of thing DLC..

No because why would you bother change Link's gender? There is nothing to game from it since there is already an established and powerful female character already there. There is no need to swap it around.

I vote yes, because why the hell not? Link is essentially just all of Farore's goodwill wrapped up in a green tunic and remote controlled by the player, it's not like there's any gender specific character that has to be preserved. Why not let the ladies (And gents who like playing as ladies) have their turn?

Honestly, it works well with the series, as previous Linkventures have shown that deviations from the original legend are permitted.

I think it would be nice if you could pick the gender, like in the more recent pokemon games.

How about if Link was made female and Zelda became a Prince instead of Princess? I think that could work out fairly well.

Seeing as it's understood that Link isn't the same literal character in every Zelda game, and is essentially reincarnated with every outing (with the exception of direct sequels), it really doesn't matter as long as the tunic and hat are present. He's already interchangeably a kid, an adult, a dog (am I thinking Twilight Princess or Okami?... hmmmm), a farm-boy, a pirate, a bunny, a semi-realistic cartoon and a not-at-all-realistic cartoon...

Yeah, make him a girl. Go ahead. Make him a grumpy old black lady with a jetpack who lives in a futuristic cyberpunk Hyrule. Make Zelda a little blind boy who communicates through dance. Make Ganon a hillbilly business tycoon who has no physical body since he uploaded his mind to the Tri-Net.

As long as they learn to get rid of the tutorial dialogue that hounds you 10 hours into the game, I'll be happy.

But for Farore's sake, don't lose the boomerang.

How about optional gender choice? I mean, Link is a silent protagonist, so it shouldn't make a difference in the narrative.
They actually did do that once. It was for the Super Nintendo satellite or whatever that Japan only ad on was called. Link was busy, so they needed someone else to deal with Ganon.

OT: I guess it could work, but if they did do that I hope it would have some relevance beyond causing controversy.
