Its thinking like that that brings an MMORPG instead of an awesome sequel (looking at YOU KOTOR!!!)
Yeah, I agree with this guy. I don't want different play types.... just give me more of what I already love.
Agreed! I play Mass Effect 1 and 2 multiple times because I like them...don't try to fix what isn't broken.
Exactly. Simply put, ME doesn't NEED co-op.

I love Co-Op, no seriously I love it.

That said Mass effect is a world based on what 1 person wants. Adding another person would kill that game.

Player 2: Hey you have been chatting for like 15 minutes lets do something!
Me: STFU I'm trying to Lay Ashley.
Player 2: You are so gay, and howcome I don't get to be Shepard? This is BS lets trade.
Me: STFU your ruining the immersion.
Player 2: Ashley is a stupid racist marine.
Me: No I love her! I'll kill you.
Player 2: Died in RL.
^this
double this.

i love co op, but some things..are not at all meant to be co op.

dont change something that i dearly love like crack (peers at the kotor series, and hopefully NOT the mass effect series too)
Triple this.

It's about your choices, if you have to debate every choice with someone then it's going to take a long time to go though conversations and loose all immersion.

I don't see why so many people think all games would be better with Co-op. Some games sure, but most games no.
Quadruple this.

I played Mass Effect 2 for the immersion, story, and most of all, just to take a break from my regular life! I don't want one of my asshole friends telling me to hurry up because I want to hear the storyline.

If there's ever a multiplayer aspect to the game, cool. Can't see the harm in such a thing.
BUT. They should always, always, have split - screen multiplayer as well as online multiplayer. I don't think I would have loved Halo's co-op as much if it wasn't split screen, but that's just me. I hate the way a lot of games neglect split screen nowadays.
agreed. sometimes, not having splitscreen just seems like a lame money grabbing attempt
it's not "oh I need a second console and game disc to play with my friend, I shall do that" but more like "oh...no splitscreen...well rental time"

Where is the option for "I couldn't care less because I'd be only playing it for the single player anyway" though on second thought I'm against it because I've got a mate who goes gaga over co-op to the point where it annoys the ever loving crap out of me.

Sound logic there, dickhead.

I don't want co-op because I don't care about co-op, I am a sociable person but I find Multiplayer boring. It ruins any immersiveness and above all simply wouldn't fit in Mass Effect; maybe some kind of separate mode from the story could work for people who are interested in it.

Gaming is my alone time where I lose myself in an experience. Everyone has something they like to do alone to unwind and gaming happens to be the thing I do. Apart from a rare exception when I find Multiplayer compelling somehow, and I highly doubt Mass Effect Multiplayer would be compelling.

Oh boy, someone's going to hate me for this, I just know it. What say they pull a Splinter Cell: Conviction for Mass Effect 3, and create two entirely new characters so that cooperative play can have a specific side-story without all those lengthy dialogue sequences and fighting over who gets to be Shepard?... Or Garrus. Because we all know Garrus is made of win.

Of course, they could do co-op where both players have a say in a conversation, but it would probably just draw things out.

Or would maybe prefer BioWare spent more time refining and balancing the experience so we don't end up with horrible combat like the first game or horrible everything else like the second game. If you want co-op there's a million other shooters out there.

Co-op and RPG's don't generally tend to mix very well. One's about interacting with people and the game at the same time, and the other is more about immersion. You can't really have both.

All games, within reason, should have some form of co-op IMO. It's always fun tearing shit up with a friend!

I don't think it would be a very good idea, the shooting would be fun co-op but there's just too many RPG elements in the games to make it work. Like others have said a second player would get quickly bored of listening to whoever's playing as Shepard talk to everyone. I suppose a separate co-op campaign with the lengthy talking and cutscenes cut out wouldn't be a bad idea though as long as they didn't neglect making the single player as awesome as possible to make it.

No, absolutely no. It's a game about dialogue, story and choices, and that's somehting that should be experienced solo. I fail to see how it'd work, and besides, it fails to have the same emotional impact even when someone else is watching, let alone playing. The interaction between the two players would basically negate all imteraction between player-NPCs, and kill the immersion. And screw up the choices. Maybe they could have a co-op mode that's purely combat outside of the main story, but I really don't see the point - better to spend the time and resources making a better core game.

Mass Effect would not work with co-op AT ALL.

Do you want to sit and watch your friend go through dialogue wheels?

Nope and heres why. Me and a friend recently (and still are )making a series of lets plays with co op games, our gaze fell on tales of synphonia, a very RPG/dialogue/cutscene based game. I chose our hero and my friend took his sidekick and the playing began. We then realised about 50% of the game is story and cutscenes coupled with dialogue. (A bit like mass effect at points)

Being the protaganist i had 90% of this dialogue to deal with, my friend had about 5% with the other 5 going to less major characters. This lead to major boringness. Watching endliss cutscene after cutscene meant my friend (who could only get involved in combat) does very little actual playing of the game between bosses and the like. My friend cant have any sole dialogue because he could have picked any of the sub characters and that would mean they would all need unique playable moments, not happening in a game of 8 playable characters and 20 hours of cutscenes.

In short shepards gonna get all the chatting and story, the friends gonna do a lot of sitting. Do you really think they will give wrex his own story and everything just in case you play him and need some solo play? Co op games are for combat/action based games where both players get a lot of play done (badlurs gate for example) this way no one gets bored handling cutscenes.

No. NO. NO Most definitely not. The focus needs to remain on the single player experience, so few games do it these days, instead clamping on a shoddy co-op or average multiplayer that's not really needed. Create an epic end to the trilogy Bioware, don't waste valuable time adding co-op that's not needed.
