Bodyshotting people in videogames is a bit frowned upon. Killing people in one bodyshot seems to have a strange perception. There are games like counter strike where the AWM, a sniper rifle capable of BS people in one shot, has a really bad rap and is frowned upon by most of the community. Then there are games like Battlefield,TF2,Call of duty, etc. where BS people in one shot doesn't get much complaining.

Personally, I think it could work but it needs a downside to balance it. Something like reduced mobility, hard to quickscope/noscope, etc.

Perhaps if they made a hit box for the heart, otherwise I can see how people would have issues with it, though the starting sniper rifle in BF3 is total bull, 3+ body shots to kill someone, no no no no no

That's all good and true, but it's because it's cheap. I want to have a chance against the hidden guy, 200 meters away, with a high powered rifle.

No. If you did that, then you would have to re-balance all the other guns, so their not hopelessly outclassed. However, BF goes a bit too underpowered for snipers. A bolt action only being a OHK to the head? Just no.

"Headshot" just seems... classic. Especially if you get a voice to say/yell that after performing one. He he... "Boom. Headshot." So no, because it's always been done as headshot = one-hit kill for full health, Bodyshot = less so.

Depends entirely on the game, and a million tiny emergent properties of that game. In most situations, power of snipeing just changes the dynamic of the game, the importance of cover, etc.

Evidently, from the poll so far, seems a lot of people played sniper classes for easy kills (one hit body kills) than the challenge sniping should be (one hit headshots) I always used the scout in CS, because it was challenging, and satisfying to get those headshots, same with just about every shooter I play... besides, often the non-OHK-bodyshot guns are generally sexier, with the potential for suppressors and all (in some games anyway)

But hey, seems to be the way games, and gamers are going these days, instant and easy gratification, and almost no one seems to want to actually TRY anymore, what's the fun if there's no challenge?

For realism, I would think so. Most of the snipers I've found in FPS's tend to fire off anti-vehicle rounds which would split an actual person in half so, a single body-shot with a sniper sounds acceptable. Then again, 90% of my FPSing is in single player so this could be one of those threads that I probably should have just avoided.

If a -rifle- also kills in one shot, sure. If going for "realism", which I guess you are, then most people should drop from a single shot from pretty much any gun. Arguably they need not neccessarily die right away regardless of what they're shot with though. But eh... so-called "realism" doesn't really work until they go all the way. Which doesn't seem to be happening any time soon.

It's purely a design call. It's not like today's shooters are especially realistic (besides Arma), what with the regenerating health, magical recoil that appears/disappears depending on how you hold the gun.

Headshots didn't even exist in shooters until Unreal (which just barely predates Counterstrike).

In terms of realism, yes it should. A single body shot from most firearms is, while not always lethal, usually incapacitating. In terms of game balancing, it depends entirely on the game.

i think the issue is in part that most games don't distinguish between body shots on the torso, and those on the limbs. A single sniper round to the chest at mid range, or the abdomen at close(ish) shouls be a kill. But i mean obviously shooters only take the realism so far. If they were in no circumstance should any enemy require take more than 1 bullet to the head, or more than 2-3 shots total. I'm not a shooter player so maybe i'm full of it but thats my 2 cents.

Noooo, introducing a one hit kill system with snipers will just make people use it all the time for easy kills. It'll be like the AWP in Counter Strike all over again, maps infested with one-shot campers all out for an easy ride because as we all know, your k/d ratio in a video game is the measure of your masculinity nowadays.

If the game isn't trying to be realistic, then it depends on how the game designers want the game to be played. In that case, I would probably lean towards one bodyshot not making a kill.

If the game IS trying to be realistic, then some sniper rifles should be able to, and others shouldn't. Just like in real life (WITH the body armor that militaryfolks wear).

Although if a game is trying to be realistic, it should make shotguns that have an effective range BEYOND five paces. But that's just me being nitpicky. :p

It doesn't work because IRL getting a body shot doesn't kill instantly. Unless you rupture the heart/lungs, shooting someone in the body doesn't kill, it lethally wounds. Most die from bleeding out or suffocation from an open chest wound when shot. Fuck, if they're wearing Kevlar body armor, it doesn't even penetrate the body... but it'll still fuck you up.

Headshots kill instantly because it scrambles your brains. Although, if it hits your Kevlar helmet, it'll just probably crack your skull.

Snipers in games like COD are annoying enough. Don't make them even more powerful.

For realism yes they should.. however this would make snipers in games too similar to their real world counterparts, as in they get many, many kills before dying themselves and so it would be unfair, especially in a game where people have no fear of dying and run around quick-scoping the life out of peeps..

What we would then need to do is make sniping dangerous, say something like a massive repspawn timer or minimal health, no secondary weapon or completely reduced movement accuracy and the need to look down the sights before getting a reasonable level of accuracy. Something that would drastically reduce a sniper rifle's effectiveness at anything less than 250m etc..

TL:DR Sniper's are too effective, they need to be nerfed so they have to hide and wait for kills and get forced to bloody scope targets properly.. + no auto-lock on for snipers + body hugging hit boxes..

2nd TL:DR - Sniper Rifle, massively increase damage, massively reduce accuracy for anyone who hasn't got three full jars of piss next to them..

+ Considering the Barret in cod fires a 50 cal. round it should be able to ripe through enemies no matter what they wear to the battle be it Kevlar or a chain-mail bikini.. if you want to be realistic..
