On the other hand, if a lot of media pull out of E3, the ones that will stay will be offered much more money. And from what I can tell, the Escapist is still in dire straits financially. And I'm not sure that covering the companies that jumped ship would offset the loss the Escapist would get from not covering E3.
Offered money by whom? As I understand it, like any other Expo/Conference, you pay to get in, they don't pay you to come. And if the press stops going, there will be less incentive for vendors to pay for the space.

youtube videos have been remove because a particular song was playing in the background on the radio while it was being filmed

who in their right mind would want to give those companies MORE power

It is my strong belief that The Escapist should not cover E3 while the ESA supports SOPA

Definitely.

Actually, I think we, as the consumers of the medium, should also boycott watching any coverage of E3 in protest too. If there's no one watching the stuff, there's no point in covering it and the ESA will ultimately lose out.

Now if only there was a more direct way to contact the staff of The Escapist to tell them what you think of the idea. Sadly, that simply does not exist. Especially not right here or anything [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/contact/]
Alas, there is no such way, so we must languish in obscurity!

No.

How could it possibly be good for a gaming website to not cover the most relevant gaming event of the year? To do so would cause far more harm than good.

SOPA would essentially eliminate or change how gaming coverage is presented to us going forward. How is boycotting gaming coverage sending a proper message as to why we want this bill to fail?

The Escapist should decline to cover E3, yes, BUT ONLY as part of a larger effort by the game/new media journalism industry.

The thing is: alone, the site alone wouldn't matter. However, with the big players in game journalism like IGN firmly owned by SOPA-supporting corporations (News Corp, in IGN's case), only an effort from many smaller (Blistered Thumbs, PennyArcade) and more general new media-related sites (Escapist) together will be able to really get their attention.

And even then, people might still tune into IGN's coverage, and the effect of it would be lost, instead hurting the boycoters more than ESA.

They did? Wow, I'm behind on my news. Thanks for the update.

Weird, I could have sworn they were owned by News Corp, who famously support SOPA quite vocally...

My point still stands though: Only a concerted effort like the one today could really hurt ESA and drive the point home.

I have done what I can as an non american citizen.
I wrote all companies I could find suporting SOPA and PIPA and told them I will stop buying any of there products and will spred the information to my friends and family so they can do the same and they will spred information to there friends and family.

I hope you can do the same, if they get enough loss in sales they might rethink or go broke and there opinion dosent matter any more

I am begging The Escapist to NOT cover E3 this year!

The ESA still supports SOPA/PIPA. And if you cover E3, you will be supporting that bill that threatens the free internet that you as a major gaming website rely on to even function.

Seriously, why would you support something that could destroy you?

no one should cover E3 while the ESA is supporting SOPA/PIPA,

thus The Escapist should skip it as well

It does make an interesting situation for TheEscapist, not only a few months ago there was open talk of revenue problems in this company. Staff changes, content changes etc etc.
Will TheEscapist hold onto it's quite vocal anti-regulation mentality and boycott and potentially lose income? Or shall they bow to the will of larger companies that know other media will be in attendance and just go with the flow holding their head in their hands sobbing 'we had no choice'?

Offered is the wrong word. I meant E3 coverage drawing views to the website.
