So yes, no? Why?
I think not, I think you can tow the car, give me a ticket, but crush the car with a friggin' tank, that's excesive.
EDIT: In case you haven't seen it: http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/112068-Mayor-Flattens-Illegal-Parking-With-A-Tank
EDIT: It's obvious teh video is staged. It's not the point here.

It was a pre-organised stunt.

Is it OK for me to [/thread] myself or not?

Regardless, if this were a legitimate way for dealing with illegal parking? No of course not.

Also, not a tank. It has tyres and I'm pretty sure that precludes it.

The man was just making a (commercial) point.
The car was bought for the purpose of getting destroyed by him.

Did you think the man just had a tank lying around?

No, and I doubt it cares to, because that's wasteful. The state gains nothing from crushing your car (and has to pay for the tank's maintenance), while it does gain money from giving you a ticket.

Who knows? It's the former USSR. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtJkyd3JJWE]

Technically it's an APC, but I can understand that you'd rather refer to it as "tank", than first spend 5 minutes explaining a difference that doesn't matter to the story.

And to answer the poll: definitely not. It is a retribution akin to cutting off your hand because you nicked a candy bar.

But still, as long as it's the exception it's an awesome thing to do.

No. They should sieze it and donate it to Oxfam. Crushing it's wasteful.

I know it's an APC. I was sort of pointing out to the OP that it's not a tank.

Then again, if every time you parked illegally your car was crushed, how many more times would you park illegally? I'd bet zero.
That's kind of the same thing as in the middle east, some places you get your hand cut off if you are caught stealing. The crime rate is very low there because the punishment is incredibly severe.

Not on the first go. If you park wrong once, that can be a mistake. But serial offenders could be crushed to make an example. It's illegal, granted, but it's nice to make an example out of someone every once in a while.

Yes,just because I could watch something be destroyed by a fucking tank!
It would help me obey the parking laws too, what with the tanks destroying illegally parked cars and all.

Look, I don't want to insult your knowledge of military toys, but right now you're proving my point in that it's completely useless debating what kind of heavy, armoured, military vehicle capable of crushing cars the guy used.

They don't have to pay more maintenance than they normally do, at least not around here. I mean we have a few National Guard bases in towns with Bradley APC's (with treads, not wheels, so more awesome) and those are maintained anyways. Mayor could just say "Hey, we booted a car parked bad, send someone to run it over." It is overkill, but a) overkill never fails and b) dude won't park illegally again. Hopefully he or the news will spread the word and people will learn their lesson.

It'd also probably boost National Guard recruitment, what with the chance to run cars over here in the states and not in a war zone.

I like this logic. Must implement now!

If the tank parks on top of your car in the illegal parking zone, doesn't that mean the tank has parked illegally as well?

Absolutely, the world needs a bit more chaos in it. If the car is only being left for a few minutes, not so much.

No way. I think that's wayyyy too excessive.

But, here's a question... what if the tank is parked illegally? What do we run IT over with?
