Poll: Should there be cake in Portal 2?

In the news feed of the Escapist [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/101476-Portal-2-Writer-Enough-With-the-Cake-Jokes-Already] there is an item saying that the writer of the upcoming Portal 2 doesn't want any cake in the sequel. He "doesn't want to resurrect a 4 year old meme"

But to me the fact that it is a 4 year old meme is a reason to resurrect it. The Cake is one of the most famous parts of the original Portal and is one of the integral parts of gamer culture. Just the other day someone mentioned something being a lie and I immediately responded with "The Cake Is A Lie".

In my mind the Cake was as much an integral part, if not more, of the original Portal as GlaDOS (who, by the way, will be making a return in Portal 2)

What do you guys think? Should the cake stay on because it is part of Gamer Culture or should it be axed because it is just an old joke?

If you don't want any cake what do you think it should be replaced by and if you want more cake out of the sequel how could it be implemented?

You are right, they should replace glados with a rogue baker for the sequel. From looking at the trailer I'm actually starting to think that glados is the joke that needs to be retired and not the cake. Another game about glados being insincere and a bit eccentric? Not sure it would be proper laughs or just going through the motions. New characters making jokes about cakes could be funnier.

I wouldn't have cared much except for the fact that this joke has
been overused in culture and...well, generally everywhere.

The joke itself seems to be a one-off joke anyway. As Simalacrum said,
we already know there's no cake.

The joke's become irritating, the memes are pointless, and well, we don't want another episode of GLaDOS lying to us for an entire game about its existence.

So, retire the cake, and let us get onto what is important: finding out if there's a level creator for Portal 2, and if there is, making a pinball level!

Actually, I think it would be pretty funny if one of the first things GLaDOS dis in this game was to give you your cake. Like, the same cake from the ending of the first Portal.

Portal was full of humorless jokes that people blew way out of proportion.

Eh. I agree about the cake thing being pretty unfunny at this point, but every joke that gets incessantly quoted these days I actually did genuinely laugh at when I was playing through the original game. In my opinion, it isn't that they're BAD jokes, it is that they are overused and frustrating to hear at this point.

Maybe one throwaway referance to cake would be okay, to be honest I was never that annoyed by the 'cake meme' that everyone else seemed to be, but it certainly shouldn't be focussed on. A little bit of creative writing should come into play and there should be some new angle for this joke to be based on.

The cake was a nice little joke, but its sort of like people who say "I'll be back" now.

Its just been used to the point where its just not that funny anymore. Sadly it didnt age like fine wine.

I liked the cake, it was a funny touch, adding to all the dark humour that made portal, but does it have to be cake? It could possibly get old, but knowing Valve, they wouldn't be stupid enough to remove it and not replace it with another center piece
