ban glasses? lol

what kind of tosh is that?

I mean, there are chairs in bars too.

Sometimes pool cues too

and someone might be able to sneak a weapon past any bouncers at the door

and that's not even going into the fact that some people could just kill you with their bare hands if they wanted to.

Are we going to ban chairs, pool cues, and fists?

I live in Australia and plenty of bars here in fact DO ban glasses at certain times (after a certain hour when alcohol-fueled violence is likely) and locations (really rough front bars) for the type of reasons that the OP has mentioned. It's in fact a very common thing here.

If everything is replaced with plastics films will never have awesome bar fights. its just not the same if the hero tries to smask the bottle and bends it slightly..

they can also use a bottle, or a chair, or a pool cue/ball, or their fist. if some one gets drunk enough to want to attack another, he/she is not going to stop because they don't have a glass

I for one couldn't care either way because I don't drink. However, I do find the idea of idiots carving each others faces up once plastered ridiculously amusing and I find myself supporting the idea of glasses.

I think it's up to the individual bars, they know best if they have problems with people getting glassed. I never heard about it before (unless you count that cutscene in SR2) but when I'm in a bar or club that uses glasses I always notice there's a lot of it on the floor, which can be problematic too, apparently walking and drinking don't match too well...
But like I said, bars should decide for themselves if they want to replace the glasses. They know full well that people getting glassed is bad for their reputation.
Your avatar seems to be "on topic" :)

just saw it and it reminds me badly of getting glassed...
that picture of me? yeah... that started out as a little zit... couldn't stop scratching.

Perhaps in Scotland. And Ireland. And everywhere where there is Scots and Irish.
Yeah any where where it is actually fun to get drunk. guess the English will be keeping their glasses then.
Actually the English are pretty bad for glassing too.

The Irish aren't too bad either. We like straight fights better than killing the bastard.

The Scots are pretty bad though. I was in Glasgow to see some band and there was a big fight at the end, one guy got a big dig in the face with a glass.
Speaking as a scot who grew up in a pub I take offence to that, In my entire life I have only encountered one person that has been glassed. In Glasgow most of the pubs/clubs use plastic at the weekend (which starts on wednesday in some places) anyway.

To paraphrase you "The Scottish arn't too bad either. We like drinking till we cant fight. The Irish are pretty bad though, we had a team of tourists across and they got barred from every pub in the town inside a day."

If you look at it from a business owner's standpoint, it's more hassle to have both than to just pick one and go with it. Some bars know that their business comes from fueling drunken douches, so they serve cheap beer in disposable plastic all the time. Others elect for the "Ye Olde Pub" or "Bar and Grille" options, which flavor is more important, and the cost of doing additional dishes is pennies compared to disposable plastic.

Even though I prefer to drink from glass, I really don't care if Budweiser or PBR taste a bit off because it's in plastic.

As well as being safer it'd save money in replacements (so long as the plastic ones are strong).

Is it worth mentioning that bottled alcohol you see in gigs these days are plastic? Nothing bad's come of it.

If you'd read the OP properly he talks about people getting into violent moods after one too many. This has nothing to do with those who enter a pub with a full intention of starting a fight.

Having spent 8 hours in A&E having glass removed from my face and being stitched back together (it was a genuine accident) I'd say replace glass with plastic. And to keep the eco-nuts happy, recyclable plastic.

Keep it authentic I say, but get an extra shotgun or two in case someone feels the need for throwing glasses.
Yeah but the shotgun is very little compensation for the guy/girl picking glass out of his face.

The plastic cup really doesn't take much from the flavour (at least not of my beloved stongbow -warning- your drink my vary) as longs as its served ice cold really it's all good.

I always prefer to have a drink in a proper glass. There's no way in hell I'm drinking a martini in a plastic glass.
Quite, plastic glasses make you look like a prat.

OT:It's not the fault of glass, there's no point in conforming everything to pointless health and safety laws because it might be a bit dangerous.

You can still choke to death on plastic anyways.

Someone dropping glass is a sure way to expel them from the bar. Being a bartender back in the day, it was sort of like a bell going off in my head to ask that person to leave. Plus, people actually seem to take care of glass better. Plastic cups always end up on the floor and things get really messy.
