No. Glasses are a cheaper alternative to Plastic cups. You only need to buy glasses once and then you can reuse them multiple times. The Plastic cup goes into use once and then get's thrown out and shipped to the landfill. If you want to stop glass related injuries in bars then a Drink Limit should suffice.

By the logic of those who propose replacing it with plastic, we should also make every piece of furniture in bars out of syrofoam and bubble wrap.
People will find weapons en lieu of glasses.

I have never seen or known anyone who has been "glassed." Maybe if you're operating the sort of bar where this thing happens you'll need to do this, but if that's the case everyone's probably carrying a knife anyway.

i'd rather they don't have another preventable way to kill each other, so just change it to something else.

Yeah any where where it is actually fun to get drunk. guess the English will be keeping their glasses then.
Actually the English are pretty bad for glassing too.

The Irish aren't too bad either. We like straight fights better than killing the bastard.

The Scots are pretty bad though. I was in Glasgow to see some band and there was a big fight at the end, one guy got a big dig in the face with a glass.
Not all of Scotlands like that...mostly just the south, theres not that much incidents like that up here in the north.

I'm both.
Double offended, nice work -oddly unsarcastic clap-

I'm going to agree with your friend, hereby afterwards referred to as Gimples, that they should be replaced during busy days. Gimples idea has only a few possible flaws, none of which merit the dismissal of this idea. I salute Gimples on his or her brilliance.

Yeah, let me drink my Churchill out of a fucking sippy cup. Maybe they should take the toothpick, too, seeing as how that could put an eye out. Fuck that shit.

I personally wouldn't see the problem in it.

..not a major issue, but I don't see the harm =p

I'd much rather a system wherin people who attack others get seriously prosecuted, though I suppose kneejerk bannings are all the fashion at the moment :S

This is a topic close to my heart.

I'm a bouncer and I have been glassed in the face. I have a 4 inch scar on my jawline. They can and should make the glass so it shatters like a car window class. This would be best, IMO.

Forget banning glasses. Ban BAR PARKING LOTS! What sense does it make, for an establishment where it's main purpose is to serve alcoholic beverages, to have accommodations for people who will be DRIVING away? The funny thing is that the sheer amount of bitching over such an idea ever having a chance about becoming law would indicate it's need. Practically everyone has driven home over the limit from a bar at some point in their life. They'd never do it because it's a great way for the states generating revenue. They make a fortune off drunk drivers.

I for one couldn't care either way because I don't drink. However, I do find the idea of idiots carving each others faces up once plastered ridiculously amusing and I find myself supporting the idea of glasses.
Yeah, I'm with you on this one- maybe we could reintroduce big heavy tankards so they could have bludgeoning weapons too? And a video feed from the CCTV for the rest of us- they could call it "Worlds Most Violent Morons Kill Each Other". Should do wonders for the global average IQ

I suppose it's too much to ask that people learn how to hold their alcohol with a little grace? This seems to be akin to taking away the shiny toy because the child won't stop trying to eat it. It's removing temptation rather than correcting the behavior.

If you're going to get rid of glass, get some sturdy, nice strong plastic cups/'glasses', not the shitty cheap ones that are bendy and stuff. They affect the taste a little (apparently?), and good quality fake ones will look nicer and not make you feel like a chav.

No, I don't think so. I don't think it's a big enough problem to have replace glass with plastic...
