Yes, they won't breed on their own. They're too lazy to breed. THEY CAN'T BREED BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO LAZY AND DUNT WANNA

We should let nature take its course. If they can't adapt, and don't provide any use then the money we spend on them could probably be better employed elsewhere - like say, to fund medical research. Something with an actual purpose, instead of just 'oh but we have to save them, they're cute'.

nah... the money we spend saving them supports the economy in one way or another

plus, if we save these guys, we can learn how to better save everything else later

Honestly even the ones left in the wild don't wanna have sex, most of the time we have to do artificial insemination, OR I remember hearing something about them trying panda porn, which is the stupidest thing I have ever heard as a side note

Cutting Costs: "Should we axe this species to save money?"

It's like someone going into a bar and saying: "Raise your hand if you are a convicted rapist."

This is so rhetorical I don't know what else to say...

But, obviously, IMO, no, we should not kill it, that would kind of defeat the purpose of protecting endangered species in the first place.
Besides from preserving the ecosystem (or preventing bad consequence)

What exactly is the purpose of protecting endangered species?
A legitimate question, how rare :D

I looked around for something that might answer that well and found this:

http://www.endangeredspecie.com/Why_Save_.htm
Sorry but none of that source is applicable to pandas, apart from aesthetic, but I don't consider "they look nice" to even come close to a sufficient reason.

So I've taken the kantian response, let's go utilitarian(JS Mill version). Let's spend all the money that would have saved pandas on saving people. Bam,

No sufficient reason has been given so far for this specific circumstance.

I'm considering animals' necessity to live on a species by species basis.
I'm not really surprised that wasn't good for you...

Well, say for example a vast highly-evolved race of space-traveling beings took notice of Earth and realized humans were leading themselves to destruction but because humans had nothing to contribute to their society, they decide not to do anything and let us bring our own eventual downfall.

If that doesn't affect your argument in any way, then I've got nothing else to say.
Sorry I shouldn't have skipped a step. Kantians believe in the sovereignty of reason, it's the only important thing about people. If a pig started to have choices and could hold an argument, it would be worth more than a human who cannot. Pandas have no ability to reason ergo, through the inverse of valuing reason, you can only value what they do as a tool.

Humans do have reason, so yes I have a problem with it, and your example changes my argument in no way whatsoever.

As cool as pandas are, I don't think they are worth saving now if penguins ever were endangered than yeah we should make sure they don't die.

if they are to dumb to breed, to the point where we have to artificially inseminate them, then yes they should follow the dodo, besides they are useless herbivores as they can only eat one single variety of flora... bamboo, hell they are not even designed to be herbivores. and honestly black and white fur?? worst camouflage ever ... evolutionary dead end if ever there was one.

the only remarkable thing about them is their cuteness... which is useless as i cant have a panda in my apartment...now if we were talking about genetically modified dwarf pandas then yes by all that is holy yes we should save and market every single one of those critters :D

If they were meant to go extinct on their own then fuck yes we should. Talk about a waste of money...

I don't think we should let it happen. But I feel like the best way to go about saving them is to protect their environment rather than any sort of forced breeding program. Perhaps not the best in the terms of chance of success but they most "natural". If we let nature do it's best and they still die out then yeah it sucks but it may just be their time (artificially ripened by us of course).

I actually don't know. Having written this I realise my opinion on the matter is complicated and not fully-formed.

Considering that despite the fact that we're trying to help them make a comeback, they still won't just fuck (seriously, what animal doesn't have the drive to procreate) I say we let them die out. Maybe save some samples of them so that we can create some copies later down along the line, but otherwise I don't see much you can do for a species whose members don't try to save themselves when given a chance.

lol and how much meat did you eat today. dont feel ashamed we are carnivores/omnivores, its what we are suppose to do, unlike the panda that is vegetarian carnivore that has no sex drive or any drive at all... kinda like the hippie of the animal kingdom, and the 60's are long over.

a less polite person would have made perhaps made offensive parallels between vegetarian humans and pandas.....but not me, im to civil

Evolution has proved that they can't survive with humanity, like polar bears, they're good as dead. We're wasting valuable time and resources trying to fight against evolution.

Sorry to say, but yes. I know we're partially the cause to their inevitable end, but the fact of the matter is that they have evolved to only eat a certain food, and because of this they wouldn't have a chance of surviving if we don't help them, even if we hadn't destroyed half their habitat. Since they have no natural predators, they would end up with the same problem we're having. Over-population and a severe lack of food to feed them. They should be allowed to die out with dignity and remembered fondly, much like other species have.
