They're a species that's too stupid and fat to have sex, even they don't want to continue existing.
I say yes, let's focus on another animal to save, maybe this cute little guy.
D'AAAAAWWWW He wants a hug.

Well, it's a shame, but it's probably not worth the effort or the resources to keep them alive. The ecosystem will be fine without them.

Best thing to do is maybe to take a whole bunch of DNA samples, preserve them, and bring a few of them back when we've perfected cloning.

Let the Chinese deal with them however they see fit. I think they are a lost cause, I remember reading about a panda in a bejing zoo that was a male panda with a penis so small that the zoo keepers thought it was a female for years.

Life must suck for these animals, they look friggen depressed every time you see them.

Hey, yeah, why not!

We already fucked up all the Thylacines, Quaggas, Dodos and Caribbean Monk Seals - why not the Pandas too!
You mean animals that humans hunted to extinction, as opposed to an animal that is going extinct because they completely refuse to have sex with eachother?
No, I mean: animals that all have humans at their root of extinction. For example, Dodos weren't hunted to extinction. If I'm not mistaking, it were the rodent pests the colonists brought in on their ships. So yeah, we're the cause, but indirectly. Same with the pandas.

It's like every nitwit is bringing up the "Haha, they don't want to fuck each other to survive! Man, if it were me, I'd fuck every girl on the planet to continue my species!"-thing to feel all justified and smart.

It were humans who drove pandas in the position they are now and, just like that, nature should just find a way? Yeah, tell that to the crocodiles down south that have penises only twice the original size because of human pollution, see what THAT does to your sex drive!

I heard somewhere that (I can't remember where) that Panda's have low sex drives because of their captivity. If they were released they would be able to mate more.

Although that's a matter for debate. I think we shouldn't let them die out in captivity but at least release them and see what the wild will do.

No! Don't let them become extinct! Why let such a docile and cute creature die?...except the fact that it is a bear and on some occassions has attacked humans, but that's beside the point!!

I'm all for just leaving them alone. It's not up to us to play creator or destroyer. If a species can't survive on its own... well, that's nature doing what nature's best at. It'd be a different story if we were actively destroying them, but we're not.
but we are playing destroyer look at all we have done to their habitat. besides would you like to go extinct because "we are to expensive to keep around"?

P.S don't let Mr.pandah see this thread.
Regardless of their habitat, their low birth rate will see them extinct sooner or later.

As for the other bit... whether I'd like it or not is irrelevant, it'll happen anyway. The point is simply that if nature dictates that any species - including us - becomes extinct, that's just the way it is. It's extremely arrogant for us to think that it's our place to interfere with nature. The world was going on quite happily for a few billion years before humans evolved and developed the means and consciousness to interfere and it'll continue to do so for billions of years after we've all died out.

They're a carnivore that eats almost exclusively herbivorously. And a fairly low-nutrient weed at that.

The creature is just another victim of human development, which we now keep alive both out of guilt and so we can gawk at it. No wonder it's trying to die.

Evolution wants them gone and we keep them alive because THEY ARE SO CUTE EEEEK!!!!!1

When an animal refuses to eat anything but one type of plant and to fuck, that's a pretty good sign it should go the way of the dinosaurs. The evolutionary tree must free some space for new species.

You know, the thing is, we may have destroyed it's habitat, but did we also destroy their will to fucking live? Humans have stepped on nature like it's nobody's business for years and I don't see any other species refusing to eat and fuck!

Breed them until them make suitable pets, i.e. not ripping your head off if you try to pet them, like we did with dog, cats, horses, etc... A bit of genetic enginering should fasten the process. Then, problem solved.

The French Bulldog is physically unable to procreate, because of its body shape. Both conception and birth are tricky matters for the poor fellow. But since it's a popular pet, and also because its body is the result of human manipulation in the first place, people still continue to artificially help them reproduce.

No.

If they do die off, what what the hell will I order up as a forbidden delicacy when I'm inevitably rich and horribly corrupt?

We should take the remaining Giant Pandas. Separate them my major world powers. And then have fight in some sort of death combat to decide the fate of the world. Personally I think that would be a more interesting use for them instead of locking them up in a Zoo/Habitat and taking care of them.

Also, DEATH COMBAT :D

Seriously, if an animal is too lazy to reproduce then that's their problem. I like pandas, but they're doomed if they can't manage that.

I say take a full DNA sample, semen and egg samples from all Panda's currently in captivity then release them into the wild. Then if they die out future technologies should allow us to recreate them if we want to. They are adorable but they're actively refusing to continue their own species.
From what I have read, it's about 50% habitat loss, and 50% very low birth rate. I'd rather save 10 other endagered species, as Chris Packham the naturalist said "The panda is possibly one of the grossest wastes of conservation money in the last half century"
Exactly. They aren't a particularly valuable part of the ecosystem, and they are in no way "cool" or "majestic". They have no intrinsic value to human beings. They are just big, stupid wastes of flesh that some pansy a few decades ago decided were "too cuddly wuddly" not to spend millions of dollars on their continued useless existence.

Excuse my French, but... fuck pandas. They obviously aren't going to do it themselves.

I see you sport a troll-face as an avatar, how fitting.

Try watching some more Discovery Channel or reading a couple of National Geographic books, m'kay? There are in fact quite a few species that have some issues with their genitalia and the uses thereof because of human pollution. However, the panda one is one of the most pressing. Besides, it's harder to make people care about crocodiles than cute looking pandas.
