It SHOULD be free, but it will never happen because a)microsoft loves squeezing people for every penny and b)people will always be willing to pay for it, including myself.
It's less than five dollars a month. Seriously, there are much more egregious affronts to humanity than the cost of the XBLive service.flare09 post=9.68405.629884 said:As much as I would like for it to be free that would never happen. However a reduced price would be nice.
Accept the quality is generally inferior to the oldest online comunity when it comess to gaming and absolutely equal to its main competition. You are not paying for quality at this point.Knight Templar post=9.68405.633173 said:We pay for a better experance, if we don't pay the qulity will drop. Simple.
The pc community, I also fail to see what quality you are paying for if a majority of the games use a player connect system what that means is that your connection is doing the overwhelming majority of the work. The same exact thing happens for the PSN.DeadlyFred post=9.68405.633394 said:Generally inferior to what community?
Also, while XBL and PSN may be pretty similar on the surface, there's really no grounds to judge one over the other unless you've got a network performance chart for each of them; that's what really matters.
Yeah, I thought that's what you were getting at but I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt. Comparing anything against the internet connectivity of the PC is like comparing the lethality of something to the lethality of death; PCs invented the freakin' internet, they better be good at it. Though, depending on the game, PC connectivity may or may not be assured 100% Most games rely on 3rd party servers although most also, thankfully, have direct connect options--again, because they're PCs and PCs do that kinda thing.shadow skill post=9.68405.633567 said:The pc community, I also fail to see what quality you are paying for if a majority of the games use a player connect system what that means is that your connection is doing the overwhelming majority of the work. The PC only is as good as it is because dedicated servers are used. The superiority of what is available to the PC market has nothing to do with PC's beingg what they are. PC's didn't invent the internet, oh and guess what all consoles are by definition computers the use of specialized hardware and a custom operating system are the only major differences! (Typically) With the exception of the MMO playing online on the PC is free, in fact Windows live for PC is now free because PC players wouldn't tolerate MS's bs with respect to charging people to play online.DeadlyFred post=9.68405.633601 said:Yeah, I thought that's what you were getting at but I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt. Far as the XBL vs PSN thing, again, you can't compare the performance of the two without hard stats. If they both work and work comparably in your opinion then that's fine. Do you know the real reason Sony doesn't need to charge for its on-line service? Because they spent an entire console generation (and continue even now) extorting people 25 fricken dollars for memory cards with less storage capacity than my watch.
And thats why its free to play cross-platform games free on XBL (UNO,Lost Planet,Shadowrun)shadow skill post=9.68405.633626 said:in fact Windows live for PC is now free because PC players wouldn't tolerate MS's bs with respect to charging people to play online.
They made those games free for Xbox Live users as well? Nice. I can't see how they could not fund the whole thing with the profits from the market place; doesn't look like they are hurting for content that might be worth buying. The only other problem is that their point system is a fairly clever way of obscuring just how much you are paying for stuff.shatnershaman post=9.68405.633651 said:And thats why its free to play cross-platform games free on XBL (UNO,Lost Planet,Shadowrun)shadow skill post=9.68405.633626 said:in fact Windows live for PC is now free because PC players wouldn't tolerate MS's bs with respect to charging people to play online.
Maybe if you can't do math.shadow skill post=9.68405.633688 said:The only other problem is that their point system is a fairly clever way of obscuring just how much you are paying for stuff.
I was being facetious, and the PC's superiority has exactly to do with "what they are". You have far more options at your disposal when dealing with PCs and even if one is not readily available, one can often be found. Consoles are not just "PCs in a smaller box", they are closed systems with preset operating parameters and software. PCs, you can do pretty much whatever the heck you want to with, regardless of the fact many run a MS operating system.shadow skill post=9.68405.633626 said:The PC only is as good as it is because dedicated servers are used.
