parents seem to be a lot less vigilant these days, all the time i see children running around in the street while there guardian is no-where to be seen. Then when the kid gets almost run over they blame the driver! some light vigilance would be greatly appreciated. so i ask you: should you need to pass a test to be a parent. I'm not asking for some outrageously hard biology test, no just a few simple real-world situations

Hmm a good idea, I see when it could be useful. But what about those two hormonally charged teens over there that had sex and now have baby. I mean do you test them then? If they fail to you take it away?

I understand when it would be useful root out all the terrible parents, but there would really no way to repress them from having sex.
(awaits for someone to use a HL reference for how to suppress the creation of babies)

A license or some sort of application process should definitely be needed. But coming from a small town in central NY where teen pregnancies are a way of life I know it will never happen. It makes me sad knowing that these kids with such young mothers will most likely be in the same situation when they get into their teens, feeding the vicious cycle.

It would be pointless, what would you do to those that fail? You can hardly steal their baby...

Yes, yes, yes, yes, A MILLION TIMES YES!!!!!

Some people are NOT meant to have children! All they do is fuck and fuck and fuck, not caring if a baby is the result, and clutter up the world with little brats! GRAH! It takes SOOO much responsibility and knowledge to correctly raise a future member of society, not to mention the teaching they have to do!

Christ, if the licenses became mandatory to have a child, they world would be SO much better now.

EDIT: Not to mention the parents who blame others for apparently 'ruining their beautiful baby' even thought they put forth LESS THAN no effort to raise them.

RE the answer: "yes but make it something that a monkey could get"
I would argue that, in fact, becoming a parent is already something a monkey could get....

No, but you should have an IQ higher than a common rock. Sadly, most of the mothers I live around don't have that kind of thinking capacity.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Who the hell is one person to tell another that they cannot have a child because they're either not smart enough or they don't conform to some arbitrary bureaucratic standard?!

People can have as many kids as they want, as long as they don't expect me to pay taxes to support them.

Yeah lets take away names as well, then nobody will be teased because of their name, eveybody will have a number. Then we should remove free will as well, I mean if people all just do as they are told then there will never be any wars right?
Even better just lay down and die, then there won't be any damadge to the enviroment!

Seriously however: This kind of talk is insane. Remember the recent L4D2 ban? Were you angered/unhapy/didn't like the news? If you said yes then logicly you should say no to this question. Unless life and freedom is less important to you than a video game in one location.

A license is needed to dirve but it doesn't stop bad drivers, how would something so much more complex ever do anything good?. If we need a license to complete one of the reasons we exsist, then what excuse is there not to have a license for every action possable?

"War is peace, Freedom is slavery, Ignorance is strength" was not something to idolise.

you couldn't stop them from having sex but you could technically enforce abortions. I know that wouldn't be extremely popular, but if the world gets too overpopulated I think it might, unfortunately, have to happen eventually anyway. Would that be good in this situation? No. But it would be an option.

OT:

I think that maybe we should have some sort of limitation on the number of children had. But if someone has a child, if the child is not endangered, I don't think it is fair to take the child away from them.

Throwing money at a problem by making new legislature does not solve it.
Growing a pair and doing your job [A Parent] solves it.

What good can come of that
If a couple decides to have children then they should be inherently knowledgeable of what the sacrifices and consequences of such a choice results in. Less work, more time at home, and dedication to being a father and mother is what makes a child grow up intelligently, and being diligent enough to ensure that they are not usurped by Television, Video Games, The Internet, Media, Friends or worse.

There already are Laws regarding Abortion and even those are neglected. What help would more paperwork regarding Children permission help?[HEADING=2] And what would the government do if the Child was already born? Be taken away to a State Orphanage? How then could that country call itself Free?[/HEADING]

Yes. The test should be that you have to be a foster parent for 2 weeks. You would have to take care of a baby, a two year old, an 8 year old, and a teenager.

Yes, there are people in my family who are TOTALLY unfit to be parents. Like my cousin who is 21 or so, has an 8 year old son, and is serving 40 years in jail.

If you take this to the government the people who disagree are the people who know they wouldn't get a licences. People as we all know are made of 80% idiot, so this could never be decided democratically.

I'm for it though.
