Why can I say they both suck but I can't say they are both good? Why is everyone always so black and white on games around here?
Am I the only one who is able to enjoy a lot of games? Since when does liking one require me to hate another one by default?
Both of the games are solid for different reasons and I am enjoying both. I think Skyrim will probably last longer because of mods.

Skyrim by far. Amalur has better fighting but Skyrim has better everything else.

Skyrim is by far the better game but Kingdoms of Amalur is still great (or at least what I have played of it).
I'll tell you this though, the combat is much better in Amalur.

Played the Amalur demo, didn't find it very entertaining. It's like a hybrid between Diablo combat and MMO gameplay. Not particularly exciting.

Skyrim bored me to tears. I got 5 or 6 hours into it and gave up because it just was not entertaining in the least. It's your typical Bethesda game. Lots of aimless wandering and extremely poor combat filled in with a great atmosphere. The world is awesome, it's just that the gameplay is TERRIBLE in every bethesda game I have ever played.

If you're playing in PC then get Skyrim. You'll get 5 years of playing at least now that Creation Kit has been released. I bought Reckoning. It's a good game but I already know I won't be playing it once I'm done with the story.

Well I put 10 hours into just the 45 minute demo of Amalur, playing it over and over.

Skyrim held my attention for 80 hours and I couldn't give a shit about it at all now, it's boring and spawned pathetic attempts at memes and I'm a huge fan of Elder Scrolls. I still have my Oblivion Xbox saves just sitting at 800 hours that I'm going to pick up again, never going to touch Skyrim again.

Also, Kingdoms of Amalur preorder came with some fucking fantastic TF2 hats.

I was bored with KoA before my demo time ran out. Admittedly that was because I knew it was a demo and wasn't trying to get invested in it, but even if I had the full version I can't see myself ever picking it up again after beating it once.

I'd love a game with Skyrim's world building and Amalur's gameplay. Seriously, they still haven't changed the combat since Daggerfall and it's REALLY bad at this point. Worst thing about Skyrim by far...

Just get both... I couldn't vote due to the survey making no sense.

Totally different style RPGs.

And god damn, am I sick of Dark Souls fanboys... yeah it's a good game, but again, it's so different from the aforementioned games, that there is no use comparing them side by side.

Elder Scrolls - Brilliant worlds, atmosphere, exploration, continuity of lore with its 15 year old franchise, and satisfying immersion.

Reckoning - Killer combat, great loot, character empowerment and a great fantasy story complete with very, very deep lore.

Dark Souls - Excellent gameplay mechanics, awesome challenge and a tense, gritty atmosphere - and probably the best visuals of the three.

None of them have exceedingly great characters..(I would give Reckoning the prize if I had to give one), but games like Mass Effect/TOR/Dragon Age kill it in the character category.. basically Bioware are the masters at creating characters.

Not long ago, RPGs were on the verge of death due to low sales and a general dislike in the mainstream for the genre (albeit a massive love for them in the niche that was RPG gamers during the low times), but now..

WOW.. Complete revival: RPGs are probably the kingpin in the gaming racket at this current time.. calling the shots.

Every genre is including RPG elements, and there are more RPGs than ever before, and they are selling like hot-cakes.

So Rejoice! And enjoy this renaissance of great gaming adventures.
So Huzzah! to the haters, I'm wearing my Golden Pantaloons.
Good times.

KoA's not out here in the UK until tomorrow. I have to say I found Skyrim very enjoyable (I put in over 200 hours) but not very emotionally satisfying, and I'm looking forward to a different kind of RPG experience.

Added the option to say they're both great to the poll
However, I didn't say that you had to hate one and love the other, I was just asking which one you preferred.

They're both great. But how has TC not gotten Skyrim yet?
I was planning on getting it when the "Game Of The Year" edition came out, but then I decided that I couldn't wait that long...

I'm not too sure what you mean by TC, so I'm assuming you mean me...

"TC" = "Thread Creator". sometimes known as OP.

And I'm glad you've changed your mind about waiting. The only thing that makes me roll my eyes more than GOTY versions of games are the people who wait until they're released to buy a game.

There is a good way to make sure you pick the right one. Rent or borrow both, play them each for a weekend, and buy the one you don't want to give back.

They're both pretty similar games in the same genre that have similar but complimentary strengths, why am I the only one* who likes both so far?

*I know I know, you're never the only one it's just a figure of speech damn it.

I'd say get Skyrim as Amalur is less well known and so likely to drop in price faster then Skyrim.
