because ageing is a cancer. and smoking my friends, is the cure...
lol and because its enjoyable...
I like you.
I understand how some people who have lost loved ones might find it bringing up bad memories or something, fair enough, but I don't understand all the seagulls squawking about how bad it is for you and that they feel bad selling them to customers because they are hurting themselves.
People are not completely retarded. Believe me if you will, that most smokers acknowledge the massive "SMOKING KILLS" on the packets and all the other signs littered about the city making the place uglier. If people take up smoking these days, it is because they tried it and enjoyed it. People aren't addicted at the first puff, it doesn't work like that. They do it because they like it, and then become addicted, so surely at some point they were at peace with the fact that it is bad for them, but they gain more enjoyment than pain from the activity.
I'd also be inclined to think that many people who smoke (obviously not all) are the recipients of a fairly bad hand of cards in the game of life. And I think the enjoyment they get from a soothing pack o' camels is going to outweigh the chance that it might end their misery a bit sooner. So really, don't feel sorry for smokers.
As for me I don't believe in sheltering myself from experience. If I like it, then it is a good addition to my life, and kept in moderation it is more enjoyable than inhaling a pack a day. I'm sure smokers can appreciate that after having to wait a few extra hours for a ciggie, it feels amazing-I try and keep it at that level, though I do over smoke if I have to sit around waiting for something all day with no internet or books or tv.
It's cathartic, it's very relaxing and it compliments a coffee like nothing else. It isnt ruining my life or the lives of others. Alcohol makes people do bad things, smoking makes bad things less of a burden for some people if only for a few minutes, without much nuisance to others.
I think it is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.
