I smoke, only a couple a day unless I'm out drinking where it can come to half a packet. I don't smoke around people that hate it, never smoke indoors, never smoke around children... I just try to be considerate.

I can't stand people that think we're evil or something because of what we choose to do. Maybe they have a chronic masturbation habit, but it's harder to tell if people do that than smoke.

I realize this. But my personal opinion on cancer sticks is not going to change. This would be a good time to accept that I said "opinion", and admit that others' opinions may differ.
Never contested it's your opinion mate, nor your acceptance of others'. Agree to disagree?
Why, certainly, my good chum!

But I'm not mating with you. >:|

I'm just wondering about people's attitudes towards smoking. I personally hate it and have no idea why people would basically slowly poison themselves for a ridiculous price, when they could just buy some rat poison. Sorry, but that's my viewpoint. If you disagree, then fine, everyone has a right to their own opinion.
I dare bet you drink, though. And alcohol is also a poison. No harsh feelings though :3

(And sorry if my presumption that you drink alcohol, would be wrong)

because ageing is a cancer. and smoking my friends, is the cure...

lol and because its enjoyable...
I like you.

I understand how some people who have lost loved ones might find it bringing up bad memories or something, fair enough, but I don't understand all the seagulls squawking about how bad it is for you and that they feel bad selling them to customers because they are hurting themselves.

People are not completely retarded. Believe me if you will, that most smokers acknowledge the massive "SMOKING KILLS" on the packets and all the other signs littered about the city making the place uglier. If people take up smoking these days, it is because they tried it and enjoyed it. People aren't addicted at the first puff, it doesn't work like that. They do it because they like it, and then become addicted, so surely at some point they were at peace with the fact that it is bad for them, but they gain more enjoyment than pain from the activity.

I'd also be inclined to think that many people who smoke (obviously not all) are the recipients of a fairly bad hand of cards in the game of life. And I think the enjoyment they get from a soothing pack o' camels is going to outweigh the chance that it might end their misery a bit sooner. So really, don't feel sorry for smokers.

As for me I don't believe in sheltering myself from experience. If I like it, then it is a good addition to my life, and kept in moderation it is more enjoyable than inhaling a pack a day. I'm sure smokers can appreciate that after having to wait a few extra hours for a ciggie, it feels amazing-I try and keep it at that level, though I do over smoke if I have to sit around waiting for something all day with no internet or books or tv.

It's cathartic, it's very relaxing and it compliments a coffee like nothing else. It isnt ruining my life or the lives of others. Alcohol makes people do bad things, smoking makes bad things less of a burden for some people if only for a few minutes, without much nuisance to others.

I think it is a perfectly reasonable thing to do.

I smoke every so often. Socially most of the time.
It's a pity that it's quite addictive.
Not only that but carcinogens kill brain cells and that's never good.

I have never seen the appeal to smoking solely nicotine, weed is another matter, but I don't do that on a regular basis.

There was a thread about this just a week or two ago. I do like smoking, but not often. It relaxes me.

Both of my parents smoke. They are in poor health, spend way to much money on the stuff, and are almost always irritable. I don't want to even try it. Not to mention I have an addictive personality, but a rather small wallet.

I personally don't smoke, but I might if I could. I'm asthmatic, so smoking is actually damn near guaranteed to kill me. I really have no problem with smoking, if you enjoy it, do it.

Also, where should I vote, as there's no "I might but it would most certainly cause me to stop breathing and die."

I'm a smoker, smoke about 1/2 a pack day. I'm ok with it. Anytime I say, 'i'm going out for a smoke' one of my friends always blurts out 'that's bad for you,' to which I reply, 'you know what's worse? saying that to a smokers face.' Heh heh. But seriously, Yes I am a smoker. No, most of you are not, and No, that doesn't bother me. The way I see it, in physical settings, if you don't like what I do, we don't have to be friends. Same way, if you're taking part in something I want no part of, I'm not going to partake. Pure and simple.

I will never try but I have the policy of "keep it out of my face, I don't have a problem with it." I figure their body they can do what they will with it. Although if you ask me it is nothing more than slow suicide, but that is just my opinion. Still my one "friend" had this just a-holish smile on his face as he blew it right in my face. I tell you he does that again, lets just say it won't be pretty for him.

I think pretentious people need to STFU and let the smokers smoke. Maybe they're slowly killing themselves because they're sick and tired of the holy-than-thous nagging about them quitting.

I smoke socially sometimes and every once in a while, I'll smoke to relax. I'm in college. It's stressful and really, what's it to anyone else what a person decides to do to themselves.
