Smoking is bad, mmmkay. It might be tolerable if the girl is reasonably hawt, but otherwise no. In our little neighbor-community here we are totally intolerant of any smokers. If you want to smoke, go outside, thanks. The hatred of smokers comes from their pathetic and damaged central neurological system. The flaw is that the nicotine renders them unable to feel properly without it and not that good at all. Adding the fact that they are addicts in to the mix and you get the general smoker behavior - when their addiction calls, no rules exist for them, they don't care about other people or places and when they're done, they throw their leftovers on the ground.
To illustrate this there is a nice scene in a TV series called "He and She". She smokes, He doesn't. They are driving somewhere and She wants to smoke in the car. He wont allow her and opening the window is not an option because it's cold outside. She complains about non-smokers being intolerable, insensitive and not understanding, so She lights up a cigarette. At that moment He grins and FARTS very loudly filling the car with noxious fumes. She is of course outraged and to her reaction He simply answers "You, non-farters are so intolerable, insensetive and not understanding...". She puts out the cigarette, He opens the window to let fresh air in and the scene fades.

So if you are a smoker and want to smoke in a closed space, consider how you would feel if someone stands next to you and farts for five minutes once every now and than till you can't breathe of farts and when you go back home your hair, clothes and everything smells so much of fart that you must wash it alone with extra strong detergent.

Absolutely and utterly repulsive.

On the hotornot.com scale from 0 to 10, smoking in your picture is a guaranteed zero from me.

It stinks. It distracts you. It's a drug addiction. It starts fires. It messes up your immune system. It makes your skin age. It turns your skin yellow. It makes your skin stink. It makes your hair stink. It makes your clothes stink. It turns the walls yellow. It makes your whole hosue stink. It clogs your lungs and arteries with tar. It's the source of most items of litter around here. It ruins a perfectly good walk with litter and the vile, stinking clouds of poison from it. Apart from the risk of crashing the car or burning down the house, it also causes you, your spouse, your children, your parents, your in-laws, your siblings, your nephews and nieces and everyone else around you to die of cancer.

It's a badge of willingness to kill and die horribly just to fit in with a really stupid "style".

I remember hearing something somewhere that summed it up hilariously well; I can't remember the exact quote and I can't find it now, but it goes along the line of "Smoking is cool until it gets gross, and then it gets really, really gross."

Apart from the personal issues, everything you've said there is dependant on a number of factors, second-hand smoke would be non-existent if everyone smoked outside, that also takes away from your argument that you could burn the house down or crash a car. As to littering, that depends on the person, I know smokers who will always find an ashtray or a bin where possible. It seems to me that you have a problem with individual smokers rather than smoking as a habit.

Some idiot smokes beneath my apartment. Why the crap must I breathe his problem. Thinking about ways to catch the moment and piss on his cigarette.
How much of his second-hand smoke do you really think is getting into your system, if he lives in a separate suite, on a separate floor?

Dissipation of particulate into an open gaseous medium would prevent more than a few parts per TRILLION from ever getting to you, which would be such a staggeringly small exposure as to be completely ignorable.

Now, do you often leave your windows open during the day, while cars drive by? You're in more danger of lung damage from vehicle exhaust particulate than a single smoker's fumes in another suite, simply because there WAY MORE volume of car exhaust being produced than there is second-hand smoke produced by your neighbour.

  • -After you chased all the smokers outside, the dissipation of exhaust particulate reduces any given individuals exposure to nearly nil.
-Cars, cows, landfills, most power-plants, most industry and coal-fires produce more harmful particulate by-products, in greater quantities than ever person that has ever smoked, in all the history of people sticking objects that produce burning smoke near their faces.
-If you are a NASCAR or drag-racing fan, you activate support more pollution (on a given weekend) than I will ever produce (as a smoker) in my lifetime.
-I know what the health risks to myself are, and I'll thank you do mind your own business. I don't ***** people out about their offensive haircuts, colognes, perfumes, designer clothing, tattoos, piercings or their religious views, so take your preaching about my habit and direct it towards the corporations and people that endorse rampant industrialization, resource harvesting and clear-cutting of the worlds forests
.

None of you 'anti-smoking bigots' are in any way, shape or form entitled to assume a morally superior position, if you do or ever have done any of the following (which is by no means an exhaustive list).

  • -when you all wear shoes or clothing with synthetic components, like rubber, spandex, polyester, rayon or any of the thousand other non-natural fibres and materials
    -eat fast food
-drive a gas, propane or diesel-fueled vehicle
-purchase products which require transport by some number of the above vehicles
-power your homes and businesses with power generated by coal-burning plants, which still satisfy more than half of North America's power requirements
-use synthetically-created products to roof and clad your homes, or allow them to be installed on your dwelling; stuff like asphalt shingles, torch-on roofs, and vinyl siding don't miraculously appear without extracting oil and processing it
-expect your cities to maintain the streets, public transit systems, or fire/police/emergency response services

Get off your high horses and realize that the money I pay to smoke already reflects the governments admission that my health risks require ME to pay for the health services I may require, which is expressed by the so-called 'sin taxes' on tobacco products.

TL;DR version: If you're too lazy to actually read my spoilered material, you need to stop harping about my smoking, and start thinking about YOU OWN environmental and social 'footprints'.

Now, aren't we a nice collective of healthy, morally superior twats people...

Smoking, to me, is neither attractive nor disgusting. Certainly not the latter, as I like to smoke cigarettes, pipe, cigars, weed and salvia divinorum.

There is, however, a certain image we people associate with smoking. People who smoke pipes are intellectuals, cigar smokers are classy, cigarette smokers fast, furious and dangerous. Stoners are, well... Stoners. Et cetera ad infinitum.

I don't mind a girl smoking. If anything, it's a new source of cigarettes when I'm out and, more importantly, if the both of you smoke, you don't notice it when you're kissing.
This guy is absolutely correct.

I guess it can go either way, to be honest. Some people look right, some don't, it all depends on, like you said, opinion. Personally, I'm 16 and I smoke, but not because I think it looks cool or attractive or whatever, just coz every so often I like a quick fag. I don't NEED to have any, I just enjoy it.

When I was little I knew ten people in my family who smoked.

Of that ten six have quit, the other four have died horrible, slow deaths from repeated strokes, two kinds of cancer and emphysema. All before their time, all of them took a number of years to die and the rest of us had to watch it happen.

My opinion of smokin is shaped entirely off of that. It's an instant turn of and it's digusting. I don't make friends with smokers, saves having to watch them die later.

I know a few women that think smoking is sexy. I assume they are talking about the act itself. The results of smoking are undeniably disgusting. So yes, it is sexy, but you could just as easily be smoking a rolled up piece of paper and achieve the same effect, without needing to destroy your health, smell bad, or leave a permanent scent on all your belongings.

My attitude to smokers is pretty much the same as towards fundamentalist religious nutjobs: You can do whatever you like with yourself but the moment you force it on me (in this case by smoking right by me) then you can fuck right off.

As long as people don't smoke near me, I don't have much of a problem with it. It certainly isn't attractive, and I would actually consider it unattractive.

Except that smoking a rolled up piece of paper wouldn't be half as enjoyable.

Extremely dirty habit, not to mention the fact that I physically choke if someone is smoking within a few yards of me.... when outside.
Seems very pointless to me. In my eyes, absolutely no good can come of it.

Gross and a major turn-off...

I don't know why anyone would think that it's hot...
Here's some reasons why:

James Dean

Johnny Cash

Mae West

Barbara Nichols

Need I go on?
So you're saying that the only reason the people in said images are attractive is because they have smokes? Lose the cigarettes and they become hideous fatties?
No, what he's saying is film industry's used smoking to add a bit of risk in the photos of the sexy badass's in their films. Due to that people think smoking can be attractive.

Now stop overreacting. This thread has convinced me to try cigars just to annoy you pretentious anti smokers.

utterly disgusting....When I see someone smoke I know they have the brain of a mouse, even a mouse is more intelligent than to throw itself victim to death.

Though smoking is actually pretty good, it reduces human population and puts less strain on the planet by killing the stupid humans. So thank you.
