Hello,
I have noticed a large portion of you quoting me, so I decided I would clarify myself.
1. I do not smoke
2. I do not approve of smoking, yet I do not believe in restricting it for those that do.
3. This thread needed some form of counterargument, because it is incredibly biased. I understand that a large portion of people have bad experiences with smoking.
4. Finally, I do not know why people smoke, yet there has to be some benefit. If millions of people, maby billions, have been smoking since man created fire, there has to be some reason. Why do people drink or do drugs.
1. Ok.
2. Second-hand smoke. If one of your parents smokes for your entire childhood, your lungs are going to be affected. That's why we restrict it. It smells terrible, too.
3. All Right.
4. There is no benefit. It's just addictive as hell.
Spoken like a true non smoker.
Except for the addictive part, that's right on the money...However...
The attraction is simple and physiological, cigarette smoke chokes off your oxygen supply, thereby limiting the flow of oxygenated blood to the rest of your system, most importantly, your brain. Said lack of oxygen induces a state of calmness and mild euphoria, thereby making the shitty-ness of everyday life a little easier to take. At least, that's why I stuck with it for almost ten years.
I started when I was 19 and working at Wal-Mart...the stress level was higher than I could have ever imagined. I "officially" quit when my wife got pregnant with my daughter, but I still smoke at work; being a line cook, it's the only way you EVER get a break.
