To all quick-scope haters: you only hate me because you can't do it the way I can.

to all camp haters: if I'm camping noob-tube me.

to all people who get killed by snipers: don't stand still.

I play the sniper like an SMG... as in I run in, and if I see someone I will quick-scope and kill them easy. (MW2) then I move on. if you can't handle, just rage quit. actually, make it a challenge. I love a fair fight.
Ego much?

As my avatar may express, I am a Sniper, born and bred, and generally I play a sniper in every FPS I can.

Any sniper in Mw2 with a thermal pisses me off, especially if the game keeps spawning me in their sights.

Also, quick scopers can go fuck off and die.
Again, a person on a thread like this sums up why I hate the online communities of all FPS games.

Unnecessary amounts of hate for whichever class/tactic/etc. happens to be owning them at the moment.

Sniping isn't something to diss. Sometimes a decent sniper can be the lynchpin to victory.

The problem is that sniping is hard to pull off in most games to the newcomer, who would then shun the sniper as someone who is a cheapskate, not able to 'play the game proper'. However, who is the guy who covers your ass as your run down the street, moving from cover under fire?

Notice how, when a sniper comes into a game, he is usually the quickest to be eliminated? This is because he strikes hard and fast, can move with stealth, and can be devastating when used properly. Not only that, but it takes a cool head and steady hands to snipe. Its not a spray-n-pray role - you must be deadly accurate, literally.

People groan when Wastelands or Derail comes into play, because it is sniper heaven. This is because those people don't understand the proper way to play these maps. You must use stealth, keep a low profile, blend in with your surroundings. It shouldn't be about getting the highest score - it should be able feeling the thrill of lying prone for a few minutes, waiting for your opponent to slip up - and punishing him for it with extreme prejudice.

People say snipers are campers, associating 'camping' with 'dog turd'. But, again, these are the type of people who run around wildly, not checking their surroundings, making noise like a wild rhino in a glass warehouse, expecting people to rush into their sights. This is not how you would fight in the Real World, why do you do this in a game? Because it is fun to rush blindly in as a hero - and the sniper is there to put you in your place.

Btw, bunnyhopping in MW2? Just a better headshot challenge.
Just so we're clear, you do know its just a game right, and not a very good one at that, or rather it gets old fast.

Fair enough. You're entitled to your opinion. I find it is quite an addictive, enjoyable game, marred only by bad system setup, which some people conclude to mirror the entire gaming experience. If you don't like it, then that's fine, you go play something else. If i choose to take it more seriously then others, then that's how i get enjoyment out of it.

However, I only used MW2 for an example. If I'd said the same thing, but substituted MW2 for HALO, CS or Battlefield, would i have gotten a similar response?

Love how you stand still like that :D

I sometimes snipe, but only if I'm functioning with teammates I know. I never go out alone or stay camping. I run with the 'grunts' with assault rifles, perhaps stay a bit behind, and when we get contact with an enemy, we take cover at different approaches to cover for eachother. The sniper then engages at long range, switching positions after every two shots at most to avoid counter-snipes. Rifles are there to engage in medium range. Depending on situation we then move forward or begin flanking.

The only people that moan about sniping fall into one or both of the following categories;

People that can't snipe-these crosseyed mooks usualy refer to themselves as 'close combat specialists'-Bollocks; when was the last time you met someone who said "Oh, I can snipe a flea off your back from the other side of the map, but I can't hit a thing with this shotgun gizmo". There are no close combat specialists, just crap people who's desire to win vastly outweighs their skill.

People with no sense of whats going on- You can easily spot this specimen, as these bewildered old puffins can usualy be found wandering around in the open close to the exact same spot where they got their brains shot out the back of their helmet for the last half dozen spawns or so. Words like 'flanking', or phrases like 'locating position' mean nothing to them, presumably because the 2 working brain cells left to them are occupied storing the phrases 'noob' and 'fag'.

Depends on the game. since 1 shot to the head=kill and 1 shot anywhere else=almost kill is the general rule of game design, their balance is related to how many bullets it usually takes to kill a dude (I don't count "you have to be percise" as a balancing factor because any jackoff with the patience to play as a sniper has probably been doing so for the last 6-10 years and is able to pop you pretty easily.) In Halo or Gears the sniper is grotesquely overpowered, whereas in games like MW it tends to get the short end of the stick. Though I will say this; the most frustrating thing to me in an online game is being sniped the second you turn a corner or enter a room.

In multiplayer games, I personally hate to snipe because sitting in one spot so far from the action doesn't appeal to me
However, I don't hold a grudge against people who like to snipe

Sniping's a good job, mate. It's challenging work, out of doors, I guarantee you won't go hungry, cos at the end of the day, as long as there's 2 people left on the planet, someone's going to want someone dead.

(I can't believe we got 5 pages out without that coming out)

...No, not a crazed gunman Dad, I'm an assassin.

Snipers form a necessary part of any war game, but in MAG there are often too many snipers. I think too many people like the idea of not getting stuck in - preferring a high Kill:Death ratio to a victory. In MAG, at least, too many snipers definitely spoil the broth..

I like to snipe from time to time but when I am not counter sniping I hate snipers with a passion.

I love to snipe in Mass Effect 1 & 2. Best guns in the game.
I don't know if it's any different in the second part, but sniping in the first is somewhat difficult with the crosshair jumping all around..how do you come to love that?

In MW2, I snipe ALL the time. I don't camp when I snipe, I use my ghillie suit and stealth tactics effectively (I usually get more m9 and knife kills than sniper kills). All my guns are silenced, my m9 has tac knife and my intervention has a heartbeat sensor (bling pro ftw).

In Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 I snipe all the time too, I just love the whole gameplay style (not the camping one...).

BUT, in games like counter strike I never snipe. EVER. it just doesn't work for me.

online i hate snipers. no fun, the amount of hours they put into perfecting their craft annoys me. offline though it gives the battles depth.

On Battlefield 2 I snipe a lot, purely because I'm good at it.
That and high-skilled sniping duels can be fucking tense.

Tf2, I prefer the huntsman, harder work, more rewarding, but you're fucked against distant snipers.

I know in reality sniping is a safe approach, but when it comes to videogames I can call it cowardly sometimes.
