Rage Against The Machine have just managed to beat The X Factor's Joe McEldery to Christmas No. 1! Now, most of you won't be interested, or will be in non-UK countries and so won't know much about it. But for those that do, what are your thoughts on the matter? Personally, I think that Christmas No. 1's should only be songs that are actually about, you know, Christmas. So on that front I'm quite disappointed. But on the other, though I like the X Factor, I agree that Joe shouldn't have won it. Plus, Rage have a great song, and they're an awesome group, so I say, kudos to them :D. So what are your thoughts on this? And I've included a poll to see who people think should have actually won...

EDIT: Note that though Sony get the money either way, I actually do like Joe and even though it's a Miley Cyrus song, I do like 'The Climb'. But between the two, I prefer Rage and 'Killing In The Name Of'.

Well, I was wrong. This wasn't as pointless as the L4D2 boycott.

You have all proven me wrong. Feel free to rub it in my face.

Fuck yes!
Finally, a Christmas that hasn't got a X-Factor winner at No.1.
But that said, I've heard Joe's song and it was alright. But Killing In The Name was much better. Wonder what Cowell is going to say about all this.

It's a christmas miracle, just shows what can be done when people band together, even if the real winners in this are Sony in the end. I can't stop smiling though.

Good job everyone who supported Rage! Christmas music sucks ass anyways, I'd much rather listen to Rage than some faggoty bullshit from X-Factor.

No-one's going to do that (HAH! Yeah, right...), because quite frankly the L4D2 boycott was indeed pointless because it was complaining about a company creating a sequel to something popular and that people would have eventually asked for anyway. Whereas this campaign had a good point, regarding the fact that we wanted to show that The X Factor basically dominates the charts every year for no good reason and we managed to get a group with real, proven talent to the top spot. Something that they deserved more than Joe, although whether they deserved it anyway is another debate entirely. That said, I do love 'Killing In The Name Of', so...

Anyway, this isn't to say that Joe is talentless, far from it. He showed talent on the show, and that's why he won. However, he needs to prove that he can stand as a good artist (like Leona Lewis did, and other X Factor winners haven't) before he should really be winning major awards or chart battles like this...

that is brilliant, the xfactor is far to influential, everyone talks about the bloody thing, and so it is good that something other than the winners song will be the Xmas no1

I'm so glad my money went to a good cause :D
Haha, you think that the Christmas No1 is a good cause, you're so... oh wait, both the Facebook group and RATM are donating money to charity for it. Well, you missed out on a great song by Joe Mc... oh wait, nope. Well... I guess I can't fault you there.

OT: As you can see above I'm glad they won. I don't particularly like RATM, but I like what they stand for, ie not the X Factor.

He said that Rage Against The Machine getting No.1 would spoil it for the other contestants (as if Christmas number 1 is only for the X factor contestants).

UPDATE: According to my brother who was listening to it on Radio 1, Joe has refused to talk on air about his defeat and is apparently in tears. Normally I'm not one to laugh at people's misfortune, but even so, I can't help but be amused somewhat at Joe's reaction. He reached Number Two which proves that plenty of people still like him, and the song he covered. But really, crying and refusing to talk to anyone about it just shows what a diva he's being. Seriously Joe, MAN UP AND GROW A PAIR!

So, he has just admitted to making the X-Factor for the sake of getting Christmas No.1s?
I hate him and his trousers even more now.

I was forced to give a toss. I used to be like you...

But now I think the campaign was stupid. Not to say that I thought the X Factor should have won, but I thought the campaign didn't make much sense.
