UPDATE: According to my brother who was listening to it on Radio 1, Joe has refused to talk on air about his defeat and is apparently in tears. Normally I'm not one to laugh at people's misfortune, but even so, I can't help but be amused somewhat at Joe's reaction. He reached Number Two which proves that plenty of people still like him, and the song he covered. But really, crying and refusing to talk to anyone about it just shows what a diva he's being. Seriously Joe, MAN UP AND GROW A PAIR!

Sorry Couldn't resist.

Quite happy rage one, just goes to show that the Xfactors monopoly can be broken.

In tears? That has made my day. Possibly more so than the Rage win. It's just so funny.

I don't really care, either. But I guess it is good to know that there are plenty of people out there willing to stick it to these bland, televised karaoke competitions.

Pretty sure what your lyrics are about have nothing to do with whether or not you're playing music.

I hate X Factor, I'm very happy RATM won. :D

Why does a Christmas Number 1 have to be about Christmas? At the end of the day, it's simply the song that sells the most during the Christmas period. If all the songs at the top of the charts in December were about nothing but bloody Christmas, I would actually go crazy and shank someone. And I probably wouldn't be the only one.

Anyways, on-topic. Fuck Yeah!!!! It's about time someone wiped that smirk off Simon Cowell's smug face. Hopefully this is a sign that the next decade will be much more rocking than the last. Because, let's be honest, the last ten years haven't exactly been great for rock.

Well, I was wrong. This wasn't as pointless as the L4D2 boycott.

You have all proven me wrong. Feel free to rub it in my face.
Proceeds to rub HUBILUB's face in it

Oh God, it stinks! Have mercy! HAVE MERCY!!!

I agree with OP, I miss the Christmas no. 1s that were about Christmas, buuut I'm a massive punk rock fan and fan of any band that sends a powerful message, which obviously includes Rage, and so this is one of the best days of my musical life! The X-Factor is awful, I loathe it and anyone on it and so this is a fantastic victory for those who love decent, powerful music. Although I still would love to see a Christmas song that's on parr with The Darkness' epic 'Christmas Time'

Oh yes, definitely. 'Christmas Time' was rock, but it was also about Christmas, so it was epic in several ways. We had a great song that people loved and it deserved to be No. 1 that Christmas because it was a genuinely good song, that was specifically about Christmas. If only more bands would take that route, like, songs that are good anyway and in a good style, yet still about the festive period. Instead of the cheesy Cliff Richard style crap that some people have been trying to get to No. 1 this year...

THEY CHEATED!!! *awkward silence...* Ops thought this was the election thread... silly me.

OT: I really don't mind if they'd won or lost because I see this thing as a "HA HA! I'm richer than you" competition(I'm not from the UK so I might be wrong). I mean good songs will sell but they won't stop commercial ones from being bought no matter what. + if they would be such nice guys why didn't they say that they'll do the charity work even though they lose?(I repeat I'm not from the UK so please inform me if I'm terribly parallel to the subject )
I think that Christmas song should be more merrily at least.

Well, finally. I'll love Cowell's response, it'll probably be a half arsed attempt to condescend and belittle both the campaign and the band, but it'll just come off as sour grapes.
