Poll: So apparently it's pathetic that I like 28 Days Later because I enjoyed Left 4 Dead

Your brother sounds like a jerk. Next time he acts like that, mock the hell out of him. It's what brothers do (I'm told).

It's "You're", and it doesn't bother me in a sense that "oh hell, I'm offended and butthurt!" I just find it really ironic.

Oh whoops, excuse me, but I think you're misinterpreting irony.

And here I thought I didn't have to explain myself too clearly... I find it ironic that people like him think that games are pointless, and that getting exposed to good things are pathetic if the idea came from a game, while he himself has a lot of games he has good memories with like CS and StarCraft, and that while he insults people who like games a lot, he himself is a big fan of Magic: The Gathering and the aforementioned UFC and NBA.

Who cares about the methods in which it takes to discover something. The point is you found something new you enjoyed whether through video games or through some thick ass novel at Barns & Nobles.

Discovery is discovery and the people who mock you can go fuck themselves. ( Just being blunt, not insulting.)

Well, I did post it on my Tumblr, and I try to fit video games one way or another into my essays for school, which are surprisingly given praise, thank goodness. I do try to get these across, and I thought it'd be a good idea to share it here too. I don't mean to make the forums seem like having the same topics over and over though, and looking back, I noticed that. Sorry.
Dont apologize, its not like im Lord Pantomime, Master of Forums. Im just a normal guy. Just giving my opinion is all. And your topic isnt unorignial, or at least not uninteresting, otherwise I wouldnt have said it was interesting. All im saying is that your opinion would be almost universally shared on this forum, which doesnt lead to discussion, which is what I really like about forums. I just hope I didnt discourage you from posting more of such rants, because id actually like to read them.

And again, stop apologizing, it really bothers me when people apologize when theyve done nothing wrong.

Much love for the Battlefield: Vietnam soundtrack.

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the chief"
Ooh, they point the cannon at you, Lord

Anyhoo. No, it doesn't matter where you are exposed to something. If you like it you like it.

As for games being a waste of time ...eugh. Aren't all leisure activities? The entire point of TV and books and music are to fill the minutes that we no longer have to devote to hunting down the next meal and making sure our children aren't eaten by a sabre tooth tiger.

I especially find it hypocritical when people come out with things like "Stop wasting time on that computer game and come watch tv!" what makes TV less of a waste of time than playing a game? Its also hypocritical to say a computer game is more of a waste of time than a board game. The media is different the intent and result are the same.

Of course, I would add the disclaimer that I think people need a varied life and should indeed mix up their entertainment.

I have heard loads of fantastic songs whilst playing Saints Row 2, and without Fallout 3, I wouldn't know or listen to all the great music from years back. I love the soundtrack and style of Fallout 3 music, and I wouldn't have heard of any of it if I didn't play Fallout 3.

Im going to go with both yes and no. No in that it is a good thing that you discovered more things that you like. Yes in that you had to rely on video games in order to discover them instead of going out and discovering them that way.
I don't rely on video games to look for good works in other media. I only happened upon somethings I like because of video games, and should it also be a yes if it were the other way around? Like wanting to play a video game because of a movie? Or because of a song?

I haven't even had the chance to play Fallout 3 because at the moment I'm too busy with college to save up for better hardware, but I've once gotten a buttload of songs from the 30's from and out of the game after I've seen the trailer. It also exposed me to Sinatra. :D

Well, now I did do something wrong and bothered you, so... sorry about THAT part, I guess. lol

Nah, you didn't discourage me, quite the opposite in fact. I know that I have to broaden my horizons, and I've been doing so for topics other than video games for quite a while. It's fun sharing ideas and rants around.

Yeah Sinatra is one of the main people I started to listen to after Fallout 3, but in general the whole list of songs the game has is brilliant, and nice to listen to :)
