I stopped playing any Assassins's Creed games after Liberation so it's not really on my radar. I think AC has become a series that I will now only play if I get bored of other games.

I'll buy it new only if the game actually moves the present day story forward
Hasn't Ubisoft already come out and said specifically "We have no idea where this story is going" and as such "We just intend to keep making AC games until they're no longer economically sound"? Pretty sure I recall a couple articles along those lines. So yeah, if you're looking for closure on the present day front, I wouldn't hold your breath. :p

As for me personally, I technically gave up on AC after AC:III. The first one was good, the second one was great, apparently I'm in the minority considering I really enjoyed Brotherhood. Revelations was garbage, and ACIII was even worse, plagued - at least in my case - with countless crashes due to disc read errors. Considering I was already very unimpressed with the game itself, those technical issues certainly didn't help so I decided III would be the last one I bought. I did rent Black Flag when I got my PS4 just to see what all the hub-bub was about...and 15 minutes in: disc read error. At that point I hopped on board the Nope Train to FuckThatVille and returned it that same day, picking something else instead.

So no, I could give two shits and a fuck about the series these days. I heard that the Chronicles game was pretty fun...but that's because it was a blatant rip-off of Mark of the Ninja, apparently. As soon as Ubi said "We're going to make this a yearly series!" you should have known that the quality was going to go to shit.

"Assassin's Creed at this point is not a series of games. Assassin's Creed is now a line graph."
- Ben 'Yatzhee' Croshaw

With the exception of AC4, every major installment in the franchise just feels like the same game with slight upgrades. The combat gets more and more cartoon-y, the stealth & assassination gets more and more trivialized, and they keep introducing real-estate / stock market minigames that don't match the rest of the game. There's also the persistent problem of sandboxes being so overloaded with collectables that I just stop caring.

That being said, I'm one of the few people interested in the Future-framework story; I'm a sucker for conspiracy / espionage stories. So I may, MAYBE, play the new one once it's down to about 20 ~ 30 dollars, just to see how the modern story plays out.

Since Revelations I basically decided that an Assassin's Creed game would need to do something special and different to be worth buying.

AC4 did that and it was interesting enough that I'm tempted to buy Rogue a bit down the line but I have absolutely no interest in the over arching story or just playing another standard AC game whatever setting it's in.

Here's my reccomendation for those curious about assassins creed.
Watch playthroughs for 1, revelations, 3, and unity
Play 2, brotherhood, 4, and rogue.
Pay sparse attention to Desmond, if anything, 4 and rogue are probably the best because they are polished mechanic wise and are interesting story wise with a focus on the historic characters.

Will i play another boring clone that slowly but surely gets worse with each new installment?

Will i give another chance to a game where the challenge decreases every installment?

If you have any doubt about where i stand on this then you are mad :p

After Unity I might MAYBE buy it when it comes on steam sale at a 70%+ kind of discount. I bought Unity at 50% discounted and I was still pissed. Quite beyond the initial release bugs (which I did not experience) it just wasn't a fun game to play.

The yearly release model they've applied to the franchise has all but killed it imo. If the people making the game had the time then it would be worth playing. But as it is . . . . no.

Ubisoft promises to "transport millions of gamers to an astonishing recreation of London during the Industrial Revolution where they will find themselves immersed in a game world they?ll have to see to believe."
funny how this promise is that: our game is pretty!!!1!one!!!

OT: i will buy the game when it gets really cheap if it isnt another turd like AC:U. i loved black flag (the only one i even liked) and no other AC game will come close because i hate anything on land with the franchise. fortunately black flag wasnt really "on land".
so yeah i will get it in a year or two in a steam sale for maybe 10 bucks or less.

As much as I adore the setting (the possibilities are just so awesome), last year's Unity debacle has left me relatively wary and even cold about Assassin's Creed.

But man, the thought of sneaking over wet London rooftops during the night during a storm, getting ready to pounce on an unsuspecting guard who dives through an alley to get out of the rain... Yes, all of the yes. Please let there be a night and weather cycle.

I partially checked out in Revelations but still had hope for the series. Black Flag was fun, but I could not escape the feeling that there was this really annoying part of the game that came up that interfered with the core gameplay. There were these stupid stealth assassin sequences shoehorned into an otherwise really fun pirate game :p

I decided well before the cracks started forming in unity that I was no longer caring about these games any more. The absolute horror that was the launch of Unity proved me right to pass on it.

The time for ubi to shit or get off the pot in getting this story finished is past, gone and never to come back. I'm done.

I mean I kinda' like tacos. I doubt I'll ever pre-order a taco, because they're always rotten and smelling by the time they arrive.
Also I ain't paying extra for guacamole and cheese! Those should come standard!
Ubisoft is going to have to work hard to show my the can still make good tacos.

Nope. I haven't cared about Assassin's Creed since Brotherhood, and I'll probably never care about it again unless they announce one set in feudal Japan.

If they reach to the point which a new game of the series take place to a HEAVY Cyberpunk World, then I will care.
I mean, look at this:

Sure, in this pic he look like a Helghast, but something similar will be a giant plus.
Also in a Cyberpunk World they don't give a single F*CK how you look in appearance. This will make more sense that the other settings....

Nah, I'm quite sick of the last 500 years, so the era this is set in is not appealing to me. Give me something from the ancient Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia, or something like that and I'll happily buy it.

No intention to buy it. In every game, the series has gotten further away from what made it fun, and added more irrelevant features. This wouldn't bother me too much, except the game often requires you to use those features, or at least punishes you for not doing so. I want to see an assassins creed game that goes back to just being about free-running and assassinating people. Streamline the combat a bit, and don't force me to fight my assassination target after forcing me to get close and hit him with the hidden blade. Those are literally all the changes you need to make. You didn't need to add a gun, or followers, or managing a village, or whatever other insanity they put in. Just streamline the combat, and quit breaking immersion at assassinations. Maybe make the time killing missions a little more diverse. That's all you need to do.

I got bored of the gameplay of AC in Revelations. I wanted to see the end of the story but I realised Ubisoft will just drag it out for as many sequels as possible. I gave the franchise one more chance with AC3, I hoped a new character and setting would breathe new life into it.

Instead it was one of my most hated gaming experiences of all time. The player character (Connor? The American Indian one) was the biggest asshole I'd seen in a game (even worse than the LA Noire guy) and the gameplay was more scripted than ever. The amount of "go here, press this, now stand here, now kill this guy with this specific weapon, oh no you used a different weapon, desync, back to the checkpoint, do it the way we tell you to" bullshit made me feel like the devs would be happier if I just put down the controller and let the game play itself. So I haven't touched AC since.

Sorry for the rant, just the thought of AC gets me angry.

tl;dr - Kill it with fire!

I always have a soft spot for the freedom of free running and leaping full throttle into unsuspecting people's throats to practice DIY speed keyhole surgery; so what better way to practice than in your own country, on your own countrymen?
Plus I haven't been soured like other gamers, probably because of not pre ordering, not pc gaming with uplay (although that robocop gun in far cry 4, i still highly appreciate to this day, cheers for that!) only playing Unity post patch and not having any faith or hope at all in other's abilities to balance my precariously placed happiness. (not enough hugs, probably).

To be honest, Unity was talked down so much for so long that I was expecting some horrible experience in which my spleen would immediatly vacate through the bowels to avoid further internal damage. But was quite surprised upon actually enjoying it. Now, it is confusing as to whether I am an easily pleased wafergrape child or people just like to be cunts in general?

I'm probably going to ignore Rogue. Probably.
but Rogue is the most interesting one so far =P

cool as the others are, Rogue is the only one (at least from the ones I played) that shows a side other than the assassins
even if it is black flag 1.5
