http://www.gamesradar.com/dead-space-3-why-the-dumbed-down-action-game-additions-youre-scared-make-it-better-survival-horror-game/ Just read that over on gamesradar. A very good article and if im honest, im officially really looking forward to this, i always have been but ive been disapointed. Everything in the article is good news, i always knew about the co-op thing being well handled what with if youre playing on your own theres no ai partner, its interesting how that will make the story slightly different, and i also thought that the blizzard sections if handled well could be very scary, specially seeing as it uses the frostbyte engine. So has this changed anyones mind about Dead space 3?

Still?
You mean it was in the first place?

But, eh, even if it's still "scary" I doubt it'll get that 5 million sale thing they're looking for. Might get it when it goes down in price, when it's been announced that the franchise is getting axed.

i just said that because the whole thing people are complaining about is that it will "take away the fear factor" if you understand XD i found the first one to be quite scary though, the second one only scared me during that part in the ishimura...im beginning to see a patern here.

That is a well written bunch of crap that no one in their right mind will buy into.

Yes, it's that obvious.

The point of this article is to lure in original Dead Space fans who are enraged (for a good reason) with EA's decision to dumb it down for a wider audience. EA wants both the old fans and newcomers to buy the game. I know I won't give EA my money this time. And neither should you.

Obligatory Mega64 video post:

But seriously, even though I'm not really in to the series, the way EA is going about changing it in this game is completely unbelievable. They don't seem to understand the appeal of the game. They even pretty much admitted that they were changing the game because it was "too scary". Fuck that.

I dunno. To me, one horror element that the dead space games got right was the whole "space" part. Not only did they use the setting for some awesome set pieces on the action side of things, they nailed space as a cold, unsettling place to be, a vast empty void. I knew that touching down on a planet was inevitable, I even thought it would be earth, it was just a logical progression and a probably conclusion to the series, but in making that step, they stand to lose what little dead space did right horror-wise.

This could be reproduced in the ice-world setting, something that could feel very desolate, lonely, and hopeless, but it's just not the same.

Dead Space 1 was only scary for the first ten minutes, and then it gave me a gun.

Now, I don't know about you, but I've been a gamer for a long damn time, and a dark corridor full of hideous wotsits in front of me and a gun in my hand is pretty much right in the middle of my comfort zone.

Dead Space 2 wasn't scary at all, and the only sweaty bit was the eye poke machine, and that's not because it was scary.

Wow EA paid that guy a lot of money. He has balls to try and say the cover based shooting is scary because of how easily you die. Call of Duty 2 single player campaign on the hardest difficulty...crapped myself.

DS was never scary really, it could be uncomfortable sure and it had some weird feeling of what I think someone called "non-combat" as in you think you've killed everything but there's that nagging doubt in the back of your mind that maybe there is still one you missed lurking about somewhere.

Less survival horror more survival action game.

Oh if they really take the Space out of Dead Space I will be quite annoyed. They pulled off the feeling of Space really well in my opinion.

DS2 was loads better with a better story, better controls, actually became scary once you hit a certain chapter (you know the one) which to me is a bizarre case of a dev knowing how to make a proper horror game but choosing not to and instead keeps lobbing jump scares at people.

People blame EA in 5...

I'm gonna buy DS3, my friend wants to play co-op since for him the words "two player co-op" means it's a day one buy regardless of anything else.

I dont know about you but when hiding behind cover and youre running out of ammo and there are 4 guys coming around the corner to shoot you down, it can be preety intense. I get that it probably wouldnt be scary, but we dont know that till the game comes out, but alot of horror games are more intense than scary and thats fine with me.

The problem with Dead Space 3 isn't just that it won't be scary at all. Its that it's NOT Dead SPACE.

Notice how its on an ice planet up against giant monsters, I wonder what that sounds like:

Then there was the addition of cover gameplay and then a sargaent for co-op. Remember how Isaac was an Engineer? How Ellie was a cargo pilot? Now instead of creating a new character who may have a sense of vulnerability (Such as, I don't know, a human resources person) they gave us someone who is outright generic.

And then their PR. OH GOD THE PR.

"the combat roll is clunky and hard to use" along with some other comments about how clunky movement controls are. That's not going to make me feel any better.
Bad game design doesn't make a game scarier, just more frustrating. This honestly just doesn't sound like a good game. Isaac is a soldier suited up in futuristic armor, he's perfectly capable of moving around like a normal human being. It's artificially inflated difficulty at its worst.

The weapon customization does sound cool, though.

I played the first Dead Space. It wasn't scary. It had surprises, with the "Boo" type stuff, but nothing that made me feel a sense of fear. 3 looks no different. Nothing about it makes me want to pick it up.

PLayed Dead Space, got bored up to the thing from a hentai movie popped up. Shot it's pulsing red spot and thought...

"That was the only 'scary' bit, if it wasn't given away by the gaping holes in the environment."

In regards to the cover shooting... Since you will be using it against things that shoot you from range, any 'fear' you get from it would be middling at best. Unless they can get the "supermodels with make-up" to attack you during the shoot-out, you have nothing to fear.

Well, this is EA we're talking about here. Say nothing about Public Relations, their Marketing teams don't even know what they're doing.

Dead Space was all right, but it was pretty generic overall. I mean, I can distinctly remember when I walked into a large, brightly lit room in the first one, I immediately stopped, paused the game, said out-loud "As soon as I enter this room, the doors will seal shut, the lights will go out, and monsters will ambush me." I unpaused and lo and behold, was proven correct!

It was never scary. Ever.

They're pretty much just remaking Resident Evil in space, even going as far as to add a co-op partner in this one to mimic 5.

I agree with the people that said it was never really scary. Startling maybe, what with all the jump scares and what not, but never scary in the good sense.

I'm looking forward to Lost Planet 3 much more, but I will probably still get DE3 because I liked the story.

The dead space games were never scary. They were immensely fun, but I never even jumped playing them
