Let me put it to you this way. Torchlight is boring. I have no clue what is going on in the world. The characters do not draw my attention. Christ, I quit playing when I was on like level 16 and I still don't know the name of the main protagonist chick. I don't know who the villain is, what his problem is, or why I should really care.Cavan said:At least X has a *vague quality designed to invoke meaningless positive connotation*, unlike Y, which is some sort of *equally vague and tangentially correlatory negative term* of Z genre.Elamdri said:At least Diablo has a soul, unlike Torchlight, which is some sort of hollowman-esque shadow of a dungeon crawler.
That's some sort of argument you have there (I apologise for getting caught up in my own use of language, but this post annoyed me for having zero actual discussion value, so therefore I'm allowed to be a smartarse)
Meanwhile, in Diablo I've just finished my Trial run and I know who the main characters are, I have a friend who follows me around and who talks to my character from time to time during the dungeon crawl, which makes it feel more engaging. I know the names of a lot of the characters in town, Deckard Cain, Leah, Eamon, my hireling Kormac. I know that a meteor has hit the church in old Tristram and it has awoken the Skeleton King Leoric who was once a good king before being corrupted by Diablo. I know that the meteor is one of the signs of the end of days and we need to learn more if we are to defeat Diablo.
I mean, that's it really. Torchlight lacks that je ne sais quoi that Diablo has. That's why eventually I'll pick up Diablo 3 and not Torchlight 2.
