I'm kind of surprised nobody made this thread yet, but I tried searching for it and found nothing, so here it is.

We all know that Skyrim was hyped up a ton, particularly on these forums, where practically every other thread was a skyrim thread in the days before release. With that in mind, my question is this: Did Skyrim meet the expectations that you had for it? If not, explain why not.

For me personally, I think it absolutely met and exceeded my expectations for it. I was a late coming fan of Oblivion , I got it this summer on Steam; and I thoroughly enjoyed fallout 3. I haven't played morrowind. Even though I was far from a diehard fan of TES, I had very high expectations for this game, I can't remember the last game that I had anticipated as much as Skyrim. Needless to say, it's still blown me away for many reasons.

No it's not perfect, but I think for sure that this is my GOTY and I will be playing it for a long, long time.

What's your opinion on Skyrim? Did it meet your expectations?

EDIT: really sorry for the triple post >_< Could a mod please merge them or get rid of two please.

Protected Riverwood from a frost dragon...brought it down on the street, crowd gathered around to look at the carcass and cheered for me. Best moment in a game ever...except for the final assault on the arch demon in DA:0 possibly.

Now if someone would just tell me how to fix this damned memory leak so that i don't have to restart the game every 30 minutes.

I wish I could help you with the memory leak but I have no idea what you're talking about, and luckily I've had no such problem yet.

And was the riverwood dragon a scripted dragon or just a randomly spawning one? I haven't done much of the main quest yet, but that little village is like home to me, I'd hate to see anything happen to it.

I'm very much enjoying it, but i'm only 20 or so hours in so far, and haven't done many of the main quests, so personally I think it's too early to make any real informed judgement. All signs are pointing to it being one of the top games of the year though.

This is the greatest RPG I've ever played. Seriously.

I haven't played it enough to give that kind of proclamation, but having a ghost assassin as a companion and a demon horse as my steed, I feel sufficiently badass. Which is a good start.

It's suceeded my expectation... when it isn't locking up, crashing, or bugging out. I get on average two problems that force be to exit and restart, if not shut down my computer, every hour. But then i get spikes of bad things happening where I can play for maybe five minutes before it craps out on me, which will cause six or seven in a row. And of course, there's the fact that it keeps corrupting my last save, so I'm quicksaving AND normal saving every five or ten minutes.

But yeah, the game itself is better then I expected, and I don't normally like The Elder Scrolls games. Now if only it wasn't so fucking buggy.

Question: Did you like Oblivion? This game is very similar to Oblivion. Imagine a streamlined version of Oblivion with more polished combat, better graphics, better voice acting, and a new setting. Does that appeal to you?

Pretty much on target. Basically a moderately improved Oblivion with better graphics. I'm having quite a bit of fun with it.

I think it's fantastic. My only complaint is that my computer is too shit to run it, but that isn't the game's fault.

It blew my expectations away. I absolutely love it. I've only sunk 18 hours into it so far (pacing myself, don't want to get burnt out), but those 18 hours have been the most fun I've ever had.

And no, I haven't had ANY bugs at all. Well...except for this one guard who had the torch carrying animation, but no torch, so it looked like he was walking around everywhere trying to brofist people. But really, thats an awesome bug.

It's exactly as I foresaw.

Now granted, I haven't actually had a hands-on experience yet, but I did watch my roommate play and get a bit of his feedback. Nothing yet as piqued my interest in playing it, because it's Oblivion all over again, but possibly worse. Really Bethesda, did we really need regenerating health?

Outsider quetion: I enjoyed Oblivion a lot, but the main thing I disliked about it was that most of the quests were bland and uninteresting. There were a few stand outs, sure, espescially in the guilds, but more than half felt like filler. Does Skyrim address this issue?

I like it a lot so far, though I have run into some minor irritations;

1. The UI seems to be ported over from the consoles and is therefore not optimised for PC gameplay, but at least it's playable.

2. The AI sometimes behaves weird(dialogs and movement), but it's still very good for an RPG.

3. It seems the only way to get a bunch of torches is to kill a bunch of guards.

4. The weight limit seems awefully low, but I guess that's what cheats are for :)

EDIT:

I forgot one major annoyance: unkillable characters.

Most named, quest or faction-related character cannot be killed; they'll just sit down for a few seconds and then go back to full health again. So I was in the situation wherein I walked barged into my factions' main enemies stronghold, killing all his guards, but not being able to kill him or his bodyguard. Pisses me off big time.

Sure, I understand that the game needs them for the main quest, but at least let me kill them, and then later announce that "they were just barely saved by the local priest and are now recovering from the wounds inflicted by and undisclosed assailant" or something. Because getting chased around half skyrim by an unkillable opponent is not fun at all.

The game itself is tons of fun though. Go give it a try.

It's not due to the sound bug... thing?
I don't know any specifics, but it's something about changing your sound settings. Should prevent crashes, I think.

I know nothiiiing! ;_;

Hey, after MW3 if it's got a little more thinking than look down sights at man I would love it
I'd rent it and then decide whether you want to buy it or not. No need to waste money.

There are still a lot of those kinds of quests. But hey, after reading this:
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.322328-Skyrim-Is-a-Neverending-Story
I expected that. With that said, there are a number of interesting quests. The Dark Brotherhood questline in particular is awesome. I expect all of the guild based ones to be. So yeah, pretty much like Oblivion in that regard. Sorry.
