Threads like these make me lol at all the "Oblivion 2.0" and "Skyrim looks ugly" troll threads from the past couple weeks
I think the problem with the different opinions being thrown around regarding the graphics is that people have been talking about two different things - art direction and graphics on a technical level. Personally, I think the art direction is great, but technically the graphics are somewhat lacking. The world looks great from afar, but looking at anything close up shows muddy, low res textures, and the shadows aren't great either.
It took me back at first, especially when looking at a blocky horses arse in the opening sequence, but it doesn't really hinder the gameplay at all, so I'm just living with it (this includes running everywhere because I don't want to look at another horse lol).
This is all on ultra on PC, running incredibly smoothly, just not as great looking as I expected after watching the trailers, but as I said, the art direction is brilliant, and that helps to take the emphasis off of the low res textures.
