My most violent game is Mortal Kombat. But it's not a new one so the graphics aren't realistic

I usually play a large variety of games, probably the one that has the weirdest ways of violence would be Catherine.
But yeah, most of the games I play don't have much blood or not enough. But I usually play something every once in awhile that has loads of blood.

I hate gorefests. I never pick the "Bloody Mess" perk in Fallout: New Vegas and I always turn off persistent gore in the Dragon Age games. It just looks so ridiculous.

I can dig gore, but only if there's a good story behind it.
for example, if I'm wandering through an abandoned facility/space station/whatever and I hear subtle weird noises and then I find a corpse that's been pasted all over the walls, I get the whole 'what the fuck happened here?' vibe. but the gore in say... quake isn't scary at all, cause you already know what happened and who's doing it. at that point it loses all the impact.

How violent are your favorite games? Did you ever go through a phase where you enjoyed more violent games than you do now? What changed?
I prefer semi-realistic gore. In my prefered shooter if you shoot someone they'll bleed and there will be splatter of some kind, but if you say for example cut off someone's head it should not geyser like the recently deceased's neck just had the mother of all orgasms. Keep it within reason I say.

I certainly don't mind explicit violence or sex in games in the least, but it isn't really any sort of particular draw either. Whatever suits the game.

Eh, I don't really love the gore and ultra violence to be honest. I can stand Gears and GTA, but I prefer TES and ME (and Fallout 3).

And I adore the stylized combat of Mirror's Edge, Enslaved, and PoP 2008.

Well my favorite game is Dead Rising 2, but more because it is an amazing game and I like the story and less because it is gory. My other favorite games are Mario Galaxy 2 and Battlefield 2142 which, while it is a shooter, has no blood. So I guess gore and violence is a second for me over actual fun and quality.

I don't mind the violence. A lot of it is done in such a creative way that it's hard not to like it.

Are we using violence to refer to gore or actually hitting people/things.

I don't like gore so I turn it off whenever there is an option to do so (Demon's Souls, Assasin's Creed), otherwise I try to avoid such games. This is really hard to do and have resigned myself to giving such games a chance to impress me first. The worst part about violence in games is the unrealistic (as far as I know) amount of gore and blood.

On the actual topic, most of my games consist of cartoon or unrealistic violence (hitting things).

I've never played Fallout 3 or New Vegas without taking the Bloody Mess perk.

That being said, a game doesn't have to be violent or gory to hold my interest, but if there's gonna be gore, it might as well be absolutely hilarious.

I enjoy gory stuff, but I also enjoy games without gore. Hell, the reason I'm gonna end up having to get a 3DS is because they're putting out another Animal Crossing...

I love violent video games as long as they aren't violent just for the sake of being so. I think stylized gore or gore "within common reason" is a better target then just gore for the sheer hell of it, but that's just my preference.

I could honestly care less so long as the game is fun to play. If I had to choose though, simplified or stylized violence.

If it's violence and gore done well, then yes I like it.

But I guess you can say that about every aspect in life... The "done well" part, I mean.

I like games with gore but I wouldn't pick them just because they have gore in them. All the games I own are quite violent the only no violent ones being Fifa and Kinect sports.
