screw dragon age. They monstrously screwed up dragon age 2 with homogenized replay dungeons and Final fantasy over the top fighting instead of sticking with the great game-play mechanics from DA1...
Dude, the fighting in DAII was at least exciting. In DA:O it looked like the characters were LARP fighting, and if I wanted to witness a damn LARP fight, I would've just gone somewhere where a LARP was taking place.
Totally agree. I felt that the combat of DA:O held it back horribly. I like your reference to LARPing, because my character didn't look like he was swinging to kill. Like with LARPing, hurting people is in bad form, lol LARP videos are hilarious, "Ouch, TOO hard!"
Though I like my go to reference, it looks like my character is swinging his sword through air that is made of molasses or tar.
Your character isn't holding a cardboard sword. He could be holding a greataxe, a greatsword, a large heavy longsword, etc. I found the fighting speed fine and not horribly slow but I suppose I don't have the attention span of a 8 year old watching Saturday morning TV.
Basically, DA2 gave me what I wanted to begin with, and what DA:O should have had to begin with, full control of the battle. DA:O battles determined by how fast your special powers recharged, because the auto basic attack, no matter what weapon I used or upgrades, wasn't powerful enough to deal with enemies alone. DA2 brought special attacks back to what they are suppose to be, support.
Full control? You have NO control over the battle. The wave system turned every battle into an endurance fest. DA:O was all about positioning and tactics, you had to position your characters at choke points, have the mages in the back line, then rogues then fighters etc. it was great. You had to use your threat raising/lowering abilities to keep attacks on your tank and away from your mages. You also had to carefully chose which targets to take down first.
DA2 was just spam abilities. Positioning meant nothing because enemies would just teleport in behind your lines and it just became a stupid clusterfuck of exploding bodies. Spell combos were dropped and enemies didn't use the same abilities as you so it was just awful.
The animations might have been better....for the first 10 minutes of the game but when you've seen them all they become rubbish.
Also less weapon selection for both rogues and warriors so that was stupid. And no prestige classes like the Arcane warriors. There was much less flexibility in the class system - it was just dumbed down.
The physical force mechanic was the only good addition to the game and the skills trees were quite nice.

I'm actually kind of hoping Dragon Age III goes the way of Mass Effect III, only even more dumbed down and insulting, just to taste the sweet Berserker Tears of all the fans.
Well the so called "core" fan base that unholy worship DA:O, will of course not be please. That is obviously seen from the comments bashing DA2 combat system and voiced protagonist, things that have been confirmed to be staying in DA3.
