I would go buy a Cornetto but only if the Drumsticks are sold out. Otherwise I would put $5 towards buying a starving child Minecraft.

Flotilla (think, stylized indie space battles) is $2.50 right now; do yourself a favor and buy it instead.

Having beat it recently, I'd say yes, there were definitely some areas that makes a $5 price tag worth it. Unless $5 is worth something meaningful to you, I can think of a ton of other things you can do with $5 and end up wasting it more than buying DNF.

Don't do it.

It's honestly not even worth the time it takes to play, let alone that time plus five bucks.

Cornettos being nonexistent in my neck of the woods, I'll just head over to Subway and get a sandwich. I've played DNF on the PS3.

It was an odd mix of soul-crushing boredom and sheer hilarity caused by absolute stupidity. Y'know, one of these games you forget you're playing *while* you're playing them, only to be brought back into consciousness with a lame pun or a cheap visual gag?

Yeah. That was DNF for me. I'd feel sullied for using it as a coaster, if that tells you anything.

Fun fact: most people wipe their asses with five bucks.
I like to save money. For that price I can get a good 12-pack of TP and wipe my ass for a month.

OT: sure, why not. It's $5. your money and time would be better spent on other games if there are any you've missed that are rather cheap (like the Serious Sam games, which are probably closer to what you want here) but DNF doesn't seem like a game bad enough to warrant completely avoiding. If nothing more, play it to learn its flaws for yourself and become a bit more knowledgeable of game design philosophy and why mixing old and new ideals without thinking about how they effect one another is bad.

I got it for a buck on Amazon thanks to my $5 off coupon I got with my $10 download of Deus Ex: HR. That said, I have yet to bother doing any more than downloading it, as I have far better things to do with my time. And far better games to play. It's not at the BOTTOM of my backlog but it's nowhere near the top.

Not a chance. I'm not wasting 10gb of perfectly good drive space on DNF, even if valve gave it to me for free.

Save it for when they release the HD version of Duke Nukem 3D (Which I hope they do soon)

Hell, buy Duke 3D on GoG for 6 bucks.

God this thread makes me want to watch Shaun of the Dead now.

From what I have seen of the game, it's a fun little distraction. When you want to play something but can't be bothered with the likes of The Witcher 2 or DOTA or some shit, you can load up this game and run and gun your way through the levels, laughing at the silly jokes. I saw my friend play this game on his PS3, and the loading times were like 30 seconds long, it actually got awkward, but as someone said it's much better on PC.

So go for it I think, if I didn't have such a HUGE amount of games to play already, I would buy it myself.

It has all the boring aspects of old school fps and all the boring aspects of new fps combined, I didn't need to play past the demo to see this. Watching someone else play it showed that story only made things so much work.

But sadly the game's laid back comedy and it's less than comical themes combine to make a sick piece of game that helped push back into the mud for a while.

It's not a horrible game just bad game-play and its story is vulgar at best and sickening at it's worst(which it seems to be at a lot).

You know what... I would say that 5$ is insulting.

The game is far too good to be less than a year old and degraded down to that level for basically no other reason than the char. Duke Nukem does not mesh well with the new generation of "im going to love and tolerate the shit out of you " gamer in the world. Seriously. that is really the only true failing of Duke Nukem Forever. Because once you strip that away, your left with a pretty middle of the pack FPS that does little to push any boundaries outside of crude humor. Pretty much what Duke literally has always been.

So with the release of DNF the public not because the game was genuinely bad, but because the humor failed to resonate with the new anti humor crowd essentially changed the chars tagline to "Always hate on Duke." and that is essentially what the public has done.

I have played the game. It literally was just about a step away from being as good as any FPS released last year including both MW3 and BF3. Granted the graphics were a bit dated, but considering the game was the vaporware champion and was in development hell for over a decade that is actually pretty understandable. Even with that said Id say it was strongly the 3rd or 4th best FPS game released in 2011 and with as many of higher caliber released last year, that is pretty respectable.(honestly personally I rate it about a tie with Gears 3 for 4th place, but I am not a big fan of FPS either)

I have played and completed the game though on a rented copy. I do have an unopened physical copy of the PC incarnation that came with my DNF branded GTX 560. (nope, not a fan, Never even played DN3D.. I got the VC cause I needed an upgrade, and it came with DNF + Newegg had an offer for a steam copy of Arkham city. At the time I would have been insane to pass up a deal for a 200$ card + a 50$ game + a 40$ game + useless collectors swag + 25$ MIR when I could have gotten the same card for 20$ more and not got anything extra. )

Anyway....5$ yes. get it. The single player campaign is worth that much. Granted its not worth much more than that, not ness. because the game is not good, but its because the popular conception is the game is not good, and because of that the multiplayer servers invariably will have an insufficient playerbase. And really what is a modern multiplayer centric FPS without live people to engage in Multiplayer with? Besides, most of the major complaints people had about the title upon release were addressed in DLC and patches.

Anyway. The game is good. Dont let the masses force feed your opinion to you.

I'm going against the grain and I'm getting it. Yeah I hear a lot of shit about it, but I have the money to spare. Of course I'm not expecting much as far as positives go, but really, I'm giving it a shot. If the story/dialogue put me off, I'm going to turn off the audio and substitute it with fitting music as I please.

So let you force feed your opinion to him? The guy is asking for peoples opinions saying don't listen to peoples opinions is kind of redundant.

Ask yourself can you live without those 5 bucks? Can you live with the thought of throwing your money away on something most people don't like? Personally I'd say it was worth it, but you'd probably have more fun with Fortune Summoners.

I paid about $15 for my physical copy so I'd say $5 for a digital copy would be worth it. Granted, I only did 2 and a half playthroughs. The half being my all-cheats playthrough. I'd grab it but that's just me so, what ever you wanna do. At least you're not paying full price!

Do it. Best FPS I played last year. I'm not even trolling either. I just like old school FPSs and it's got just about enough to be fun.
Really? You like "oldschool" fps and you like DNF, the FPS that is as oldschool as Modern Warfare 3? Really? What is oldschool in 2 weapon limits, regenrating health and literally no challenge at all?

On Topic: You want a good oldschool FPS, buy Serious Sam 3. You want something worth all the 5 bucks you'd want to spend buy Binding of Isaac. Or a Cornetto. Both are equal awesome.
Don't be daft. I've played modern warfare, it's awful. Dnf has some of the humor, interactivity and variety of enemies like the older games. Sure it isn't great but given that it's only competition this year has been serious sam and I haven't played that I stand by it being my best fps this year.
Hard Reset came out last year. A lot of the people involved in making that worked on the original Painkiller, and it feels a lot more like it in the gameplay than DNF does. Coincidentally, I also got it for $5 on sale. It's not anywhere near the sublime oldschool experience something like Painkiller was (which itself was an homage to its predecessors in the genre), but it's still a solid game, and I've enjoyed what I've played of it so far a heck of a lot more than the clunky DNF demo.
