Can't we just have a temperate Apocalypse? I'd be cool with that, maybe just start a farm with my brahmin.
Come to Washington. I don't think even the apocalypse can upset our wonderfully temperate climate.

Hear that apocalypse? I challenge you.

I repeat, Washington is gone. All of it,the whole state. It appears that the temperatures were so extreme they have destroyed several nuclear instillations with catastrophic effects.

In a hot apocalypse you can run around naked and as long as the water doesn't dry up, you can go swimming to cool down. Cold you sit there huddle under 50 blankets unable to move and not wanting to breathe since the cold air burns your throat.

Instead of answering the question, I will bring in an expert. Mr. Frost?

Fire and Ice

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Well, regardless of whether it's an ice age or global warming, both are caused by too much CO2 apparently.

I'd prefer cold, because I can barely function during the summer. If we're having an apocalypse, I'd like to spend it without constant headaches and a complete lack of energy.

Hot. The Road was a depressing journey where everything was fucking dead and humanity had no chance of survival.

Man i would by far be in a cold Apocalypse because its easy to get warm and hard as hell to get cool without heavy machinery.

Apocalypse, noun. "a prophetic disclosure or revelation."
How pray tell can that be hot or cold? :p
(sorry, felt like being a smartass)
And then the Prophet said unto his people, Shit the Worlds heater is stuck at 150 degrees Fahrenheit I think were screwed."

I am going w/ cold. Cold is manageable... we can all tunnel down and become mole people using the earth's core radiant heat to maintain life. but I hope for zombies, oh please let it be zombies.

Can you be more specific as to how hot or how cold, I mean I don't think the Fallout world is really a hot apocalypse, its more of the ground is contaminated with radiation so everything is dead making it a barren wasteland. But if we're talking like super hot vs super cold, imo it would probably be better to live in a cold one because you could always work around the cold with heaters, layers of clothing, if you need to grow food you could probably do so in a indoor environment. Whereas with extreme heat you can only shed so many layers of clothing to help keep cool, you'd probably be restricted to nighttime work only if it is too hot during the day, and any crops would burn out.
If you have enough power to heat a place to a temperature where plants can grow you could also keep that place cool enough to grow crops...

I live in Wisconsin so I might be biased, but I would have to pick a hot apocalypse. If it was indeed like fallout than it honestly couldn't be so bad. Just as we have ways of making areas warmer we have ways of making areas cooler (underground, AC, fans, inactivity). Heat is less likely to effect equipment. Plants and animals can still live actively in a hot environment but very few stay active during the winter. Lambsquarter grows almost everywhere in the U.S. except during the winter and although it's a weed, you can eat it for protein and calories. Cold weather is very destructive and would most likely destroy building more quickly and with them would go most their contents. Constant snow fall could make traveling very difficult. No vehicles except for snowmobiles and possibly skis would be of any use, and it's tough to say how long those would last. A bicycle however could last a very long time with minimal maintenance. Not to mention the fact that if you go to sleep outside in cold weather you might never wake up. This post is way too long.

When you say a hot apocalypse, I imagine more of a water-world kind of thing where all of the polar ice caps have melted and 99.9999% of the planet is covered in salt-water.
And following that hot apocalypse, the water vapor in the atmosphere will probably rise so high that it'll start reflecting sunlight back into space before it reaches the surface. The world will start freezing over, and as the new ice age sets in, we'll have the cold apocalypse anyway.

I say we start building under-water cities powered by hydro-thermal vents right away. We win either way. Until and unless there are zombies involved...

Bioshock with zombie DLC anyone?

Cold. Think about it, with all the snow and ice everywhere we're pretty much guaranteed to not run out of water. With a hot apocalypse, you're always on the hunt for water.

Ha! Like you could burn down western Washington if you tried Large chunks of it are rain forest. Eastern Washington would go up like a book of matches, but nobody really likes that half of the state anyway. Now if the snow would just finish going away on the hills and mountains.

I'd prefer cold, having lived in a city where it gets to -50 C (-58 F) in the winter, I'm pretty used to it.

So let's say there is an apocalypse, would you rather have a hot apocalypse (fallout style) or a cold apocalypse (the Road style)?
Also tell me why. I've been giving it a lot of thought and its hard because one would think, hot apocalypse, dehidration, but cold you freeze to death at nights. So think about all these factors and tell me. Eager to know.

Cold. Definitely. I live in the north so I am already pretty adapted to cold temps. Plus since it's an apocalypse so I'm assuming everyones going to end up dead either way and I would rather die by passing out in a snowbank with some delirious idea that I am warm in my last moments of life than the alternative, which is probably a slow suffering death.
