I know this sounds like a silly theory, but I think it's so popular because it was the first one in the franchise to be 3D.
The frequent cinematics played a large part as well imo.

I think it's a fairly good game which was a real trendsetter at the time. Not my favourite, which is 8, but I can accept it's flaws and enjoy it for what it is. And the storyline's good for a pseudo-mystical ride it was an very enjoyable experience for me, I'm happy to have spent around 100hrs in that world.

Niiine, worship the niiine. I love the niiine.

I dont get it according to most fanboys as I played 7, 8 and 9 in order 7 should be my favorite, but the logic is lost on me.
Zidane is awesome

And then 10 ruined it for me. Real shame, I don't follow the final fantasy franchise as much as I did anymore. Yeah look at me the real antithesis of a 'true FFF' meh, screw them.

Out of what I've played, 7 is by far the best. It's one of two that I've actually enjoyed and the only one I've finished.

Wow, a FF VII thread...how original.

For me, Final Fantasy 6 and 9 beat 7 hands down any day of the week.
Also, I may be one of the only people, but i liked the combat and growth system from 2.
And the Job System from 5 was awesome.

So yeah, 2,5,6 and 9 beat FF VII in my opinion.

Perhaps not the best, but certainly one of the most influential to the series, and the whole genre, for that matter.

Agreed. Playing VI then VII, I noticed that the stories were very similar. I also suspect that part of the game's success was that it was the first to make the jump to 3D.

Similar to X, the one had the first voice acting and that was popular too.
I've only played VII, VIII, X, XII, it's a toss up between VII and X.
It is what made GTA so popular, And If i'm honest, the GTA's preceding GTAIII - aside from maybe the london expansion, weren't that great.
Vice City is considered the last good GTA.

Can't remember if it was 6 or 7 that I liked.
It was the one with excellent immersion and storytelling

I personally think that 7 is the best in the series, mainly cause of it's great storytelling, the fun combat system, and the entertaining side-quests and mini-games (like snowboarding and breeding/racing chocobos).

Did it include an evil corporation, an evil guy with long silver hair and a guy with spiky blonde hair? That would be 7.

Final Fantasy VI for the Snes version, where the title is referred to as Final Fantasy III. The music is untouched in this version, which is the most memorable, next to Celes, Sabin, Locke, and Mog even, etc. etc.

Honestly, I enjoyed Final Fantasy the most, wayyyyyy back on the NES.

Four fighters made for the easiest, but most expensive game.
