I'm going to challenge myself and the board and say "John Romero is about to make you his *****." I apologize if it has been said, but that is the most obvious example I could think of and I was definitely NOT buying Daikatana after that. I don't even know why they released a demo for that textured and programmed vomit bag.
At least the final game wasn't a broken, buggy mess with terrible forced escort missions with even more terrible AI that had no survival instincts!
Honestly, for myself I think a better question would be "Has an advert ever actually made you want to buy something?" because I can't really think of any that I've seen in the last... seven years that made me go "Oh, oh, I just gotta have that!"
As for the actual topic at hand, what EA did with
Dante's Inferno and Yahtzee was pretty cool. What EA did to advertise it to the rest of the world... not so much. The aforementioned 'Your mom will hate it!' commercials as well (though I had little interest in
Dead Space at the time anyway). And all of those Snuggie, Shamwow, Oxiclean, and whatever else commercials that infest television. At least back when they had Billy Mays, Oxiclean was amusing to watch.
