I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God and that God raised him from the dead. I have sworn fealty to God as my Lord and Master and am indwelt by the Holy Spirit. When I die, I will go to Heaven.

What this guy said. We atheist are pretty much all screwed if we end up being wrong about this.
Who's to say that god doesn't reward atheists but punish dogmatic religious believers, or anyone that claims that they HAVE to be right about the existence/non-existence of god?

Well since I took Int RMPS let's see. Since I have broken one commandment I could be sent to hell unless in the course of my lifetime I was to repent and truly mean it then I would get into heaven. I want to be in heaven but I have a very unlucky life.

this isn't a hypothetical question.

As for myself, were it not for the shed blood of Jesus Christ, and His subsequent rising from the grave three days later, I would be facing a one way ticket to Hell for all eternity.

Jesus came, though, He lived, and He died, in our place. He lives again - and through faith in that life that He has; the Father, who is judge over all, looks at me - a guilty criminal - and sees His Son.

Apart from Christ, though, you get what you deserve. And there's not a soul on earth that deserves anything less than condemnation. You know this is true.
See, this is why Poe's Law is so annoying. One or either of these two could be trolling, and we would have no idea. Someone could even come out and say that all of us DESERVE to suffer *for eternity* and it's possible that he's being serious and sees nothing wrong with that.

The question is, hardcore believers of any faiths, what if you picked the wrong god to devote yourselves to? That's a ticket to hell, man (depending on if the god is actually forgiving or not).

Hopefully Hell. That's where all the interesting people go. I mean, I get to rock out with Nietzsche and the Marquis de Sade. Who does Heaven have? Thomas Aquinas? Ray Comfort? Wooo! Break out the sparkling grape juice.
Besides, I have to go to Hell. Otherwise, I'll need to make new friends.

I'm not trolling. I'm in the library of a Christian university right now working on a paper about the soteriology of the gospel of John.

Not that those ipso facto mean I'm trolling.

I'm not trolling. Poe's Law is one of the most annoying things to ever come out of the internet, in my opinion.

Going by most scripture and not modern religious views, I'd be sent straight to hell. Many modern views would send me there too. The local Christian views would probably see me end in heaven.

I'd like to think I'll go to Heaven. I try to be a good person, I'm not a dick to people who don't deserve it, and while I am an atheist, I subscribe to the opinions of a certain Cracked columnist- if there is a loving God, there has to be room for the honest mistake. No one's getting sent to Hell because they don't realize God is there, no matter what the popular opinion of Him might be.

And a quick note for those who go "hell i hope cuz hevans borring lol": that whole "fire and brimstone" bit? You do realize that you'll be burning in that, right? And also that since Heaven is, by definition, "perfect", it must have an infinite number of new experiences to offer, or else it wouldn't be perfect? Indeed, if there was a Heaven, I'd like to think that the being who managed to create the infinite complexity of the universe would be intelligent enough to think "Hey, if this place I'm setting up for all of the non-douchebags to hang out in after they die is uniformly pleasant, they'll get bored and it won't be such a great place anymore. Maybe I should leave in the tiny, life-affirming nuisances and only remove the really severe horrors of mortal life?"

[/rant that probably stems less from my actual current beliefs and more from having been a Christian for a large chunk of my life and still getting a bit butthurt over people blindly criticizing Christianity]

heaven by default. all reason suggests if there is an afterlife; our living actions hold no sway over the destination.

Oh, I agree with you 100% on that really.

So yeah. Heaven

I'll be in Hell, surfing the lake of fire and high-five:ing Satan as I pass him by. :p

Why?

Well being an enemy of religion (judaism/islam/christianity specifically), successfully convinced some people to leave their respective churhces, having the stance that if God actually exists then he's an evil bastard whom I would spit on if I ever met him, advocating abortions, prostitution, liberal drug laws, drinking, gambling, having sex out of wedlock and being pretty fucking unapologetic about everything mentioned above.

I'd say that I've got a one way ticket to hell waiting for me when I die. But I don't mind really. It's pretty clear that all the cool and interesting people go to hell when they die if the rules about hell are to be believed, so I'd be in good company.

Heaven would be a really shitty place to end up in. Just a bunch of zealous senior citizens and 40-year old virgins up there apparently (since these are the only ones who qualify if the rules are to be believed).

I'll tell you this God you son of a *****, if you exist and mind to listen: You can keep your heaven! It obviously sucks monkey-balls, unlike the veritable party-resort of the underworld. So Im gonna go with my mate, the horned one and be as filthy and decadent down there as possible.

That's kind of the point of faith though isn't it? Faith precludes doubt.

Anyway, I find it hard to believe that my heart will weigh the same as the feather of Ma'at godess of Truth. Heavier or lighter it doesn't matter if it isn't the same weight my heart will be eaten by Ammit the devourer of souls and my soul will be condemned to restlessness for all eternity.

Hell I guess?

Well, if heaven or hell existed, I would say Heaven. I'm a fairly good person I would say.

Because that would be the reasonable thing to do.

And it's pretty fucking clear that IF an omnipotent God who supposedly created us and the rest of the universe exists, he/she/it is FAAAAAAAR from a reasonable individual.

Why do I reach that conclusion? Well just take a look at the state of the world. A reasonable omipotent being with genuine interest in how we fare as a species would've stepped in and done something about our destructive ways of life.

Heck only something so simple as just "showing up" and once and for all ending this eternal battle between religions of who has the "right idea" about what God is and what he/she/it wants would be pretty fucking reasonable.

But as of yet, divine intervention has never occurred. All that man has been met with is complete silence and indifference. That's not a very reasonable reaction from an omnipotent being. It's pretty much just shutting his/hers/it's eyes and ears and ignore us.

So IF this supposed God exists, it's pretty safe to assume that it isn't a reasonable God. And an unreasonable God will not reward atheists or agnostics for being wise enough to demand some proof before putting their full faith into anything, because unreasonable entities never reward reasonable ones.

I don't know about that. I'm not an atheist, but I don't believe that if you are one you will just go hell because you are one. We are all different, we are all flawed, but the deciding factor (at least in my personal belief) is if are you willing to acknowledge your flaws and actually try to improve yourself. And no, I am not saying being an Atheist is a flaw, it is simply a different view of life and how life works. Every creed or lack thereof can be just as equally guilty of all relative human flaws, so in reality, it isn't what you call yourself, it's what you do with yourself. I know you guys aren't worried about hell, but I know a fair number of people whose views contradict with the norm (like myself, a Jew in a baptist county), I just know in the past when someone takes the time to tell me that they don't believe I am going to hell simply because I am Jew, it makes me feel better because I know the world isn't full of ignorance and self righteousness (self-righteousness I am hypocritically displaying right now as I write all of this, damn) So if it helps, great, if not, thanks for taking the time to read.
