I am not particularly fond of fighting... I find violence upsetting and often unnecessary BUT I am thinking of learning a fighting style for the excercise and discipline it offers.

Obviously I need a fighting style suited for tall people, for example any northern shoalin styles seem to have been developed for the taller among us... but also I am leaning toward Muay Thai, traditional stance obviously as I dont plan on fighting in any UFC matches so I dont need a sturdy stance to avoid takedowns. :D

Do any Escapist study any martial arts? And please feel free to offer some other styles suited for tall people if you wish.

Also, I will add a poll to see which people prefer... but I wont put Jeet Kun Do on said poll because it would win AND as Bruce Lee said it isnt a figting style.

(For the poll I put some fairly common styles and some reltively unknown styles... just to mix it up a little.)

EDIT: Here are some characters from games and films that use some of the styles mentioned:

Yeah, cant think of anyone for this... :O Suggestions?

SUPER EDIT: Keep in mind the style that you suggest does not have to be on the poll, those are just some styles.

Muay Thai all the fucking way. Don't you want to be able to jump off the tusks of an elephant and knee someone out of a helicopter?!

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is the way to go
i did it for a year when i was like 13 or so and it rocked
i still remember how to kill someone or just knock em out or break as many bones in their body as i wish,....emphasis being on if they attack me first.

but depending on your teacher, jiu jitsu has many different forms, starting from the ground up to stick, knives, etc.

And then come back here and change your mind.

I am surprised no one has voted for Sambo yet given that pretty much everyone in Russia who knows how to fight knows Sambo.

Are there no Russian Escapists? :(

I think most people think of a martial art as a way of defending yourself, not necessarily killing someone.

Also, there are flaws in all styles and all styles require you to actually touch the other person... thats why Jeet Kun Do will always be the best.

But this is not a versus thread so lets not say this one versus that one and so on and so forth.

Well, I'll agree with Jeet Kun Do is the "best" art, because it's more about getting the job done, asap, with as little effort as possible.

I wonder if I can hijack this thread.

So, There's a debate that Bruce Lee, if he were in his prime and alive today, would be terrible at MMA fighting. I disagree, because he pretty much invented MMA, and would sweep the floor adapting to the new styles. Anyone have input on that?
